摘要
忠实是翻译的标准之一,但不能从翻译标准整体中剥离出来,并凌驾其上,进而排斥“发挥译语优势”。当代翻译理论认为,所谓“忠实”,首先是对原文信息的忠实,形式是其次的,为保存信息内容,形式必须改变。而且译者对作者的忠实与对读者的忠实相一致。语言晦涩、佶屈聱牙的译文绝无忠实可言。可读性是检验翻译质量和翻译价值的首要原则,发挥译语优势正是使译文具备可读性的必要手段。
Accordingto contemporarytheoryof translation,a translatorshouldbe faithfulfirstly,to thesourcelanguagemes-sage,thento theformso as to reproducethestyleof theoriginal.To preservethecontent,themessagemustbe transformed,whenevernecessary,to attainfaithfulness.Furthermore,thefaithfulnessof thetranslatorto theauthorshouldbe in strictcon-formitywiththatto thereaders.A translatedtextwithobscurewords willbe in no way faithful.Thereadabilityis thetouch-stoneto inspectthequalityof translation.Andto takeadvantageof thetargetlanguageis thebestdeviceto maketranslation readableas wellas faithful.
