The aim of the research was to explore the influence of word frequency, accessibility and list composition on recency effects, and the possible reasons. In order to show the characteristics of recency effects, two experiments were made with different Chinese character materials of word frequency and accessibility by using directed free recall procedure and manipulating list composition. The results were as follows: the influence of word frequency on recency effects was affected by list composition. With pure lists, a greater proportion of high-frequency words (HF) were recalled than low-frequency (LF) words, and with mixed lists, a greater proportion of LF words were recalled than HF words. Yet no influence of accessibility on recency effects was independent of the frequency composition of the lists. Finally, the article discussed the characters of the recency effects.
