Background:Taking actions to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular engagement in physical activity(PA)and reducing sedentary behavior(SB),may protect against the development of internalizing problems among healthy youth. However,it remains unclear whether such associations exist among youth with chronic pain who often report symptoms of depression and anxiety. To this end,we aimed to investigate the associations between independent and combined PA and/or SB patterns with indicators of internalizing problems in this vulnerable population. Methods:Data used in this cross-sectional study were retrieved from the U.S.National Survey of Children’s Health for the years 2021-2022.Specifically,caregiver proxy reports on sociodemgraphic factors and lifestyle behaviors of 4735 U.S.children and adolescents(referring to youth)aged 6-17 years were collected. We examined independent and combined patterns of PA and SB as exposures, with internalizing problems serving as outcomes of interest.Logistic regressions were used to examine the independent and combined associations of PA and/or SB patterns with anxiety and depression symptoms among youth with chronic pain while adjusting for covariates including age, sex, ethnicity, primary caregivers’education level, overweight status, and household federal poverty level. Results:Overall, our results indicated that PA was negatively associated with anxiety and depressive symptoms.Specifically, youth with chronic pain who engaged in at least 60-minute PA for 1-3 days,4-6 days,or every day reported significantly lower likelihood of experiencing symptoms of anxiety(OR=0.71,95%CI:0.60-0.84;OR=0.44,95%CI:0.36-0.53;OR=0.50,95%CI:0.40-0.63,respectively;all p-value<0.001)and depression(OR=0.63,95%CI:0.53-0.75;OR=0.38,95%CI:0.31-0.47;OR=0.46,95%CI:0.36-0.59,respectively;all p-value<0.001)symptoms compared to those with 0 days.Conversely,SB(operationalized via the proxy screen time)was positively associated with anxiety and depression symptoms.Youth with chronic pain who reported 4 or more hours of daily screen time had significantly higher odds of experiencing symptoms of anxiety(OR=2.17,95%CI:1.52-3.09,p<0.001)and depression(OR=2.30,95%CI:1.48-3.59,p<0.001).Furthermore,youth with chronic pain who engaged in higher PA levels and reported lower SB levels had a lower likelihood of experiencing symptoms of anxiety(OR=0.68,95%CI:0.52-0.87,p=0.003)and depression(OR=0.49,95%CI:0.34-0.70,p<0.001)symptoms compared to those with lower PA levels and higher SB levels. Conclusions:Higher PA levels and lower SB levels were associated with a reduced likelihood of developing anxiety and depression symptoms, which are indicative of internalizing problems, among youth with chronic pain.Future public health actions in this vulnerable population should prioritize intervention programs that promote PA engagement to reduce SB levels. 展开更多

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the personality traits of physical education teachers working in secondary schools in Istanbul. The research was conducted in accordance with screening model. The research group is formed by physical education teachers who are working in public and private secondary schools which are connected to the Ministry of National Education in Istanbul in 2012-2013 academic years. Among the participants, 36.8% is formed by female physical education teachers, and 63.2% is formed by male physical education teachers. PERI (personality inventory) short form is used. PERI is formed by five subcomponents: openness to experience, sense of responsibility, extroversion, coherence and emotional stability. Assessment instrument was applied to participants with the face-to-face technique by the researcher. Findings were obtained by using T Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test and Mann-Whitney U Test in the analysis of research data. Consequently, it is understood that physical education teachers had low scores on emotional stability personality traits and so they were not adequate. In openness to experience, extroversion, coherence and sense of responsibility subcomponents, it is understood that they had higher scores and they were adequate. Besides, there is no significant difference found between gender, school type and years of service variables and personality traits (P 〈 0.05). 展开更多

Background:Exercise procrastination is prevalent among college students, causing decline in physical fitness. It is imperative to investigate the mechanism affecting college students’physical activity behaviors. This study was aimed at investigating the effect of procrastination on college students’physical exercise behavior, and the chain mediation effects of exercise commitment and action control(AC),to provide a theoretical basis for interventions targeting physical exercise behavior among college students. Methods:A questionnaire survey was conducted using convenience sampling. The General Procrastination Scale,Exercise Commitment Scale,Action Control Scale, and Physical Activity Rating Scale-3 questionnaires were used.Participants were 581 college students(age 19.27±0.94 years;243 males and 338 females).Statistical methods of regression analysis and structural equation modeling(SEM)were applied. Results:Procrastination, exercise commitment, and action control were found to be significant predictors of physical exercise behavior.Among these predictors, exercise commitment and action control showed full mediation effects in the relationship between procrastination and physical exercise behavior, and explained 25.48%and 30.77%of the total variance, respectively. The chain mediation effect of exercise commitment-action control was significant, accounting for 22.60%of the total variance, and the total indirect effect was 79.33%.Conclusion:Therefore,higher procrastination was associated with less participation in physical exercise behavior among college students.Improvements in exercise commitment and volitional decision-making ability for physical exercise behavior promoted physical exercise behavior, and increased exercise commitment promoted volitional decision-making ability among the students. The chain reaction effect of exercise commitment and action control also buffered the negative effects of procrastination on physical exercise behavior, thereby increasing physical exercise behavior among college students. 展开更多

Background:Guidelines recommend that adolescents should accumulate an average of 60 min per day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA).However, using only this cut-off could hide important information. For instance, from a population-level point of view, increasing physical activity for those with no or low physical activity could provide more health benefits than increasing physical activity for those with intermediate levels. Also, including a more sensitive cut-point of≥1 days per week could be an additional strategy for identifying those with low access/opportunities for physical activity practice. Thus, the current study aims to estimate the prevalence of≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week among adolescents globally, and to describe any relevant gender inequalities. Methods:We used representative datasets from 146 countries/territories collected between 2003 and 2019.MVPA was self-reported.Participants were grouped into younger(≤14 years old)and older(>14 years old)adolescents.Crude Poisson regression models were used to identify the relative differences in≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week between boys and girls, and random-effects meta-analysis models were used to identify the pooled estimates.Analyses were stratified by country and region. Results:Approximately 80%of both younger and older adolescents reported≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week. This prevalence was≥94%in Europe and Central Asia and North America, while the estimates for the other regions were<77%.The prevalence of≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week was higher among boys than girls, with the largest differences occurring among the oldest adolescents(Prevalence ratio_(≤14y)=1.04(95%confidence interval(95%CI)):1.03-1.04)vs.Prevalence ratio_(>14y)=1.09(95%CI:1.08-1.10)).Conclusion:Approximately 8 out of 10 adolescents reported accumulating≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week, with notable differences between regions.Gender differences were observed in several countries, especially among the oldest adolescents.Priorities for physical activity promotion among adolescents should include increasing access/opportunities for physical activity among those who do not achieve≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week and reducing gender inequalities. 展开更多

Background:One of the pathological hallmarks distinguishing Alzheimer’s disease from other dementias is the accumulation of amyloid beta(Aβ).Higher physical activity is associated with decreased dementia risk, and one potential path could be through Aβlevels modulation. We aimed to explore the relationship between physical activity and Aβin middle-aged and older adults. Methods:A systematic search of PubMed,Web of Science,PsycINFO,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and SPORTDiscus was performed from inception to April 28,2022.Studies were eligible if they included physical activity and Aβdata in adults aged 45 years or older.Multi-level metaanalyses of intervention and observational studies were performed to examine the role of physical activity in modulating Aβlevels. Results:In total,37 articles were included(8 randomized controlled trials,3 non-randomized controlled trials,4 prospective longitudinal studies, and 22 cross-sectional studies). The overall effect size of physical activity interventions on changes in blood Aβwas medium(pooled standardized mean difference=-0.69,95%confidence interval(95%CI):-1.41 to 0.03;I^(2)=74.6%).However,these results were not statistically significant, and there were not enough studies to explore the effects of physical activity on cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)and brain Aβ.Data from observational studies were examined based on measurements of Aβin the brain using positron emission tomography scans,CSF,and blood.Higher physical activity was positively associated with Aβonly in the CSF(Estimate r=0.12;95%CI:0.05-0.18;I^(2)=38.00%).Conclusion:Physical activity might moderately reduce blood Aβin middle-aged and older adults. However, results were only near statistical significance and might be interpreted with caution given the methodological limitations observed in some of the included studies. In observational studies, higher levels of physical activity were positively associated with Aβonly in CSF.Therefore, further research is needed to understand the modulating role of physical activity in the brain,CSF,and blood Aβ,as well as its implication for cognitive health. 展开更多

Purpose: This study was to present national estimates of participating in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) and adherence to the recommendations of 60 min/day of MVPA among Chinese school-aged children and to assess demographic differences in MVPA.Methods: Cross-sectional analyses of data from the 2016 Physical Activity and Fitness in China—The Youth Study. Participants were 90,712 primary, junior middle, and junior high school children(boy: 47%; girl: 53%), recruited from 1204 rural and urban schools across 32 administrative provinces and regions in the Mainland of China. Main outcomes were(a) average MVPA minutes per day in the previous 7 days by self-reports and(b) percentage meeting MVPA recommendations. Results: Average MVPA time was 45.4 min/day, with boys having more MVPA(47.2 min/day) than girls(43.7 min/day) overall and across the 3 school grade categories. About 30% of participants met MVPA recommendations, with a higher percentage of boys(32%) than girls(28%) overall and across the 3 grades categories. Urban school children outperformed rural children in terms of MVPA time. Overall, boys were more likely to meet MVPA recommendations(adjusted odds ratio(a OR) = 1.19, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.16–1.22) compared with girls; children in higher grades(junior middle(a OR = 0.92, 95%CI: 0.87–0.98) and junior high(a OR = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.53–0.66)) were less likely to meet recommendations compared with primary school children. The odds of meeting recommendations did not differ between urban and rural children(p = 0.07),but urban boys were found to be more likely to meet recommendations compared with rural boys(a OR = 1.14, 95%CI: 1.06–1.19).Conclusion: Overall, the average MVPA minutes per day among Chinese school-aged children is low, and less than one-third of them meet MVPA recommendations. These results were most evident among junior middle and junior high school children and those living rural areas. 展开更多
