Three-year-old potted Citrus unshiu Marc, trees were used to investigate the influence of high temperature stress on the endogenous polyamine content, ethylene production and fruit drop. High temperature-stress markedly promoted the production of ethylene and increased the percentage of fruit drop. It was found that endogenous polyamine content was high sensitive to high temperature stress, and there was a significant negative relationship hetween endogenous polyamine content and both ethylene production and fruit drop, the correlation coefficients being r= - 0. 7567 and r= - 0. 8640 respectively. Thus we believed that the level of endogenous polyamine played an importent role in regulating ethylene production and fruit retention.
