It was said that PANHU was very popular in She, Yao, and Miao Nationalities in China and has become a collective memory of these clans. This legendary explains the origin of these clans and offers a support to the idea of PANHU as ancestral beliefs, which gives reasons to many typical characteristics such as headwrapping, footbinding, long-hairedness, and the taboo of not eating dogs. These features have been recognized and inherited as a result of repeated narration. PANHU legends are in fact the history of oral ,which has strongly supported the self-identification of these clans and become prominent cultural features separating them from other clans.
