With the accelerated urbanization process,Air pollution is becoming increasingly se-vere.As an important part of urban greening, roadside hedge plants are considered as one of most ef-fective passive method for the deposition of urban particulate matters with various size fractions. In this study,Study areas were set in Luoyang city and five common roadside hedge plants were se-lected as tested plant species, four biochemical paraments including relative water content(RWC),leaf extract pH,total chlorophyll content(TLC),and ascorbic acid content(ACC)were measured, which intended to comprehensively evaluated their air pollution tolerance index(APTI),besieds, the relationship between the dust retention capacity of the roadside hedge plants and the air pollution tol-erance ability were also discussed. The results demonstrated that the air pollution tolerance index of the tested plants ranked as follows:Loropetalum chinense var.rubrum Yie(8.81)>Photinia serratifo-lia(8.79)>Buxus megistophylla H.Lév.(8.66)>Ligustrum quihoui Carrière.(8.32)>Nandina domestica Thunb.(8.25),his indicates that L.chinense var.rubrum and P.serratifolia are suitable for heav-ily polluted areas due to their high APTI values,whileN.domesticaThunb.can serve as a bioindicator of air pollution owing to its low APTI and high sensitivity.
