数字史学视角下史料处理方法的演进与展望——以《美国对外关系文件集》为例

摘要 本文以《美国对外关系文件集》(FRUS)的数字化历程为案例,探讨新数字技术在史料处理中的应用潜力。FRUS的数字化历程包括从纸质文献扫描、数据库建设到档案信息细化编码的发展过程。近年来,科研团队通过开发基于编码源文件的应用项目,将档案信息结构化并引入词频统计和相似文档检索,大幅提升文献分析效率。然而,现有数字化档案的应用仍存在诸多局限,如人工标注一致性差、信息提取技术门槛高、检索功能单一等。未来,随着人工智能技术的进步,基于大语言模型的档案分类、标注和知识挖掘将更加精细,会显著提高文献检索的精准度,帮助研究者发现历史线索并提升研究效率。FRUS作为档案数字化的先驱,可以为其他档案的数字化和应用提供参考。 This paper uses the digitalization process of the Foreign Relations of the United States(FRUS)as a case study to explore the potential applications of new digital technologies in historical material processing.The digitalization of FRUS encompasses the evolution from scanning printed documents to database construction and the refined encoding of archival information.In recent years,research teams have developed applications based on encoded source files,structuring archival information and integrating tools such as word frequency analysis and similar document retrieval,thereby significantly enhancing the efficiency of document analysis.However,the application of existing digital archives still faces several limitations,including inconsistent manual annotations,high technical barriers for information extraction,and limited retrieval functionalities.In the future,advancements in artificial intelligence,particularly large language models,are expected to enable more refined archival classification,annotation,and knowledge extraction,significantly improving the precision of document retrieval,assisting researchers in uncovering historical insights,and enhancing research efficiency.As a pioneer in archival digitalization,FRUS offers valuable references for the digitalization and application of other archival materials.
