This month we take you to one of our favorite escapes from the bustling metropolis.Headquartered in Guangzhou for more than 25 years,the editors at That's have passed down the secret knowledge of the Kaiping diaolou from epoch to epoch,boss to intern.In our tenure,we patiently awaited the opening of a captivating water town along the shores of the Tan river.The ruins of a once bustling promenade were visible from across the river and behind the fence.Many a ride through golden rice fields was made to see whether an access point could be located.The village appeared hastily abandoned;a genuine time capsule.
