A New Boot Mode for Computer——Overview of UEFI Architecture

摘要 对于操作系统而言,固件的意义在于建立操作系统与底层硬件之间的联系。操作系统自身是无法直接获取硬件信息,更无法直接完成所有硬件的初始化,因而需要固件为操作系统创建逻辑上的抽象硬件,并提供必要设备信息,最终引导操作系统,实现控制权的移交。UEFI是由Intel倡导的,由开源项目EFI衍生的全新架构,颠覆以往BIOS的构建方式,以协议接口结合事件的方式完成原有固件功能。本文结合UEFI Spec以及业内相关资料,对UEFI运行启动方式进行总结。 For the operating system,the meaning of the firmware is to establish the connection between the operating system with hardware.Operating system cannot directly access the hardware information,moreover cannot do all the hardware directly initialized,and thus needing firmware for the operating system to create a logical abstract hardware,and provide the necessary equipment information,finally boot operating system,realize the control transferred.UEFI is initiated by Intel,a new architecture derived from the open source project EFI,which overturns the previous BIOS construction way and completes the firmware function in the way of interface and event.This paper summarizes the boot mode of UEFI based on UEFI Spec and relevant information in the industry.
