The emergence and application of automatic mineralogy method and technology is the greatest achievement in the field of process mineralogy research. The basic principle of process mineralogy analyzer(BPMA),the first new automatic mineralogy technology with independent intellectual property rights in China was systematically introduced, and its application prospect was discussed.Based on scanning electron microscope(SEM)and X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS),BPMA can automatically, quickly and accurately determine the mineral composition and content, particle size, liberation degree, intergrowth degree, element occurrence and other process mineralogical parameters of samples. The system is mainly used in the field of mineral processing, especially suitable for the real-time monitoring of mineralogical parameters of mineral processing process, process fluctuation reason finding, mineral processing process defect diagnosis, and is very useful in mineral processing flow design and optimization. In addition,it has great advantages in the search and quantitative study of rare, associated and fine strategic key metal minerals and in the evaluation of ore availability.
