摘要
本文旨在探究互联网加速普及的背景下家庭信息资本向人力资本投资的转化,利用"中国家庭追踪调查"2014年追踪数据,建立配套亲子样本,应用泛精确匹配和加权回归方法来识别母亲互联网使用与家庭教育投资的关系。研究发现,母亲的互联网使用显著地提高了家庭教育投资,但其效果具有异质性——城镇家庭是受益者,母亲的互联网使用对进城务工家庭和农村家庭教育投资的影响不显著。在影响机制上,互联网使用可通过降低交易成本和解决信息不对称以促进教育投资。我国城市信息优势阶层已经成功地将信息资本转化为人力资本投资,但是缩小数字鸿沟未必能弥合不断扩大的城乡教育鸿沟。
Internet access and use are accelerating in China. This paper intends to analyze how information capital can transform into human capital. The paper uses the 2014 wave of China Family Panel Studies data to estimate household education investment models using the coarsened exact matching and the weighted least square method. The paper finds that a mother's Internet use had a significantly positive effect on educational investment. However, the positive impact was limited to children from urban households, not for migrant or rural children. The analysis further illustrated that Internet use may remove investment barriers by lowing transaction costs and solving information asymmetry facing Chinese households. In conclusion, this paper argues that information-rich urban households may transform their information capital to human capital investment, while closing digital divide itself was insufficient to close the enlarging education divide.
