摘要
Jinzhong lies in the middle of Shanxi and has been called the Zhongdu Plain since antiquity. Standing against the Taihang Mountains on the east, abutting the Fenhe River on the west, Jinzhong, a fertile basin, was home to Shanxi merchants, one of the three renowned groups of businessmen in modern China. It is in Jinzhong that one can visit the impressive ancient city of Pingyao and high-walled residential courtyards. Since late 1980s, the government of Jinzhong, acting on the strategy of using antiquities as a tool for cultural rejuvenation, has tapped into the rich cultural heritage bequeathed by Shanxi merchants and promoted tourism as a breakthrough for accelerating economic development and industrial restructuring.
