Lianshan Yi Nationality Autonomous Prefecture is China’s largest region where Yi people live in a compact communities. It covers an area of 60,000 sq km. which abounds in mineral resourecs. Minerals surveyed are. 1.5 billion tons of V-Ti magnetic iron, 8.85 million tons of nonferrous metals, and over 2 million tons of rear-earth ore. 50 river flowing in the prefectural area provide great hydropower potential of 71 million kilowatt.The specality of climate here shows a small annual difference in temperature, while daily difference is large, production of crops per unit of land is high as well as excellent in quality.Xichang Satellite Launching Center is the only one that opens to the outside world for sending up commercial satellites in China. 14 different satellites from several countries have been successfully launched here since 1984.
