Objective: This study observed characteristics of shape and distribution of movement-related cortical potentials(MRCPs) in Motor Area of Cerebral Cortex induced by movement of figure flexion. Methods: Thirteen healthy subjects were screened as subjects, their right fingers were asked to do 100 intermittent contractions of30% MVC,and their continuous electroencephalography(EEG) and force signals were collected. The MRCPs was distracted by the average superposition method when the trigger point of surface electromyography was seemed as movement-related point. Results: The MRCPs were negative, they increased slowly at the beginning and then slowly decreased, and they mainly distributed in motor area of cerebral cortex(supplementary motor area(SMA) and primary motor area) but non-symmetrically distributed in left and right cerebral hemispheres. The amplitudes of MRCPs in contralateral hemisphere of movement were significantly higher than those in ipsilateral hemisphere of movement(P〈0. 01). The peak value of MRCPs occurred on FCz and Cz sites of SMA in the midline of brain. Conclusions: MRCPs induced by sub-maximum voluntary isometric contraction of finger flexor show a nonlinear change that increases at the beginning and then decreases, and they mainly locate in medial part of contralateral hemisphere of movement. In addition, the MRCPs reflect the central commands related to preparatory process and execution of movement rather than sustainable phase of movement.
