Based on the conception of narrative medicine and affective turn in the field of medical humanity, this essay classified the illness reading text into fictional and non-fictional, which can be further classfied into three kinds, namely, literary illness narrative, autopathography and parallel medical history according to the identity of the writers. These texts can serve as the reading materials for medical students and practitioners to improve their narrative competence and promote their empathy, resulting in the reduction of doctor-patient conflicts as long as the readings are directed carefully according to their grades of importance step by step with the basic narrative knowledge and concepts.
