Objective To evaluate the image quality of cervical arterial plaque by the application of peripheral pulse gating and black blood tectmique in MRI. Methods 14 cases with cervical arterial plaque and 10 volunteers were performed with MRI scanning . The scanning plan included axial T1WI. black blood T1WI and contrast-enhanced T1WI FS. Five layers close to cervical arterial bifurcation were selected. The SNRs and scores of T1WI, black blood T1WI and contrast-enhanced T1WI were recorded, and the differences of three sequences were analyzed by two sanlple t-test. Results The SNRs of black blood T1WI, T1WI and contrast-enhanced T1WI black blood were 8.23 ± 0.42, 10.22 ± 0.87, 8.51 ± 0.20 respectively, and there was no significant difference (P〉0.05). The average scores of black blood T1WI, T1WI and contrast-enhanced T1WI black blood were 5.78 ± 0.46, 4.34 ± 1.70 and 3.72 ± 1.68 respectively. There was significant difference between black blood TIWI and T1WI (P〈0.05). There was significant difference between blood T1WI and contrast-enhanced T1WI (P〈0.05). But there was no significant difference between T1WI and contrast-enhanced T1WI (P〉0.05). Conclusion It is feasible to utilize peripheral pulse gating and black blood technique in the display of cervical arterial plaque in MRI, and this technique has has extensive prospect in predicting the stability of cervical arterial plaque.
