摘要
欧·亨利(1862-1910),美国杰出短篇小说家,在其作品中他通过描写寻常百姓人物来展开情节,营造一种幽默而又悲伤的氛围,使读者深深地为人物形象及故事画面所吸引。他丰富的人生经历和随之而来的种种忧伤成就了他300余篇的小说,也造就了上世纪初他的声名鹊起。《麦琪的礼物》被一致认为具有典型的"欧·亨利元素"。因此,本篇论文旨在从语言学视角对本篇小说的语词、句法以及修辞等几个层面进行分析。
O Henry, an outstanding Amertcan short writer, is glIte（1 at tlescrlDlng orolnary people and creating a humorous and sorrowful atmosphere, attracting audience with both story characters and plots. His rich life experi- ence and various sadness help him produce over 300 short stories, setting him a literary hit at the beginning of the 21st century. His masterpiece, The Gift of Maggie is universally thought to feature ＂O Henry style＂. This paper aims to analyze the work from lexical,semantic and rhetorical perspectives.
