Ninety-eight pediatric patients who were catheterized difficultly with traditional PICC insertion method due to obesity or invisible veins were recruited in this study. A modified Seldinger technique without ultra sound guide was applied for 3- and 4-French peripherally inserted central venous catheters. The catheters were safely inserted into peripheral veins in all patients. The modified Seldinger technique can reduce the patients' pain and anxiety, and a smaller peripheral venous catheter is more acceptable for pediatric patients.
