Gloeocapsomorpha prisca is one of important hydrocarbon′s source for Lower Paleozoic in the world, especially for Ordovician carbonate formation. According to laboratory simulation of hydrous pyrolysis, the GC and GC MS characteristics of saturated hydrocarbon derived from G. prisca were described as follows:a wide n alkanes′carbon number ranging from C 11 to C 39 ,C 17 or C 18 main peak, a strong odd carbon number predominance; very high concentrations of n alkylcyclohexanes and methyl n alkylcyclohexanes; very low concentrations of acyclic isoprenoids,steranes,and terpanes.However,the content of hopanes was relativly higher than that of steranes. These characteristics were similar to those of Lower Paleozoic biomarkers in Tarim basin. Therefore G. prisca could be regarded as one of Lower Paleozoic hydrocarbon producing source material, especially of Ordovician carbonate hydrocarbon producing source rock in Tarim basin. the present study is very important to evaluate high mature and over mature hydrocarbon producing Lower Paleozoic source rock in Tarim basin.
