摘要
中医药术语的翻译长期以来一直是学界十分关注的问题,研究者们提出了种种翻译原则和方法。但是由于缺乏宏观翻译理论的指导,这些翻译原则和方法多带有浓厚的主观色彩或者立论不够严密。文章试图运用翻译目的论的研究视角,结合中医药术语的文化性和中医药学的科学性,来具体探讨中医药术语英译的基本原则和方法。作者指出,中医药术语的英译需要在文化翻译和科技翻译中找到一个恰当的平衡,在当前的国际化潮流中,一方面注意传播文化时原文的文化特质和译文读者的接受能力,另一方面注意英译术语的信息性特征和技术化、国际化标准,以促进中国传统文化精品向世界各国的传播,并最大化地实现对世界医药科学和文化的贡献。
Based on the problems of the English medical terms in the field of TCM,the author offers some translating principles and methods in the light of the Skopostheory in English translating job.It is suggested that both the cultural characteristics and the scientific characteristics of the medical terms in TCM should be presented in the English translations,along with the linguistic ones.Specifically,on the one hand,in order to better spread Chinese culture,the English translations of medical terms in TCM should represent the typical Chinese cultural elements;while to attract greater attention of the foreign readers,efforts should also be made to facilitate the foreign reader＇s better comprehension and arise their greater interest in the English versions.On the other hand,in order to keep the scientific characteristics of the TCM as a medical discipline,the English translations of the terms in TCM should be most accurate,precise as well as standard.The two points are supported and clarified by reasoning and examples in this paper.It is also pointed out that realization of the balance of the two aspects in TCM English translations would effectively approve the world-wide exchange in medical science and technology.
