摘要
文章提出了一种基于自由空间耦合技术的电光调制器。入射光直接入射到作为耦合层的上层金属膜表面,通过改变外加电场的场强,控制入射光耦合进导波层的能量,从而改变反射光的强度,实现电光调制。该类调制器具有插入损耗小、响应速度快、稳定性高和成本低廉等诸多优点。与传统的棱镜耦合方式的聚合物电光调制器相比,自由空间耦合技术的引入使此类电光调制器结构更加紧凑、更易于阵列化集成。
In this paper, a novel electro-optic modulator based on free space coupling technology is proposed, Incictent light is directly projected upon the upper metal film surface that is used as the coupling layer. The amount of the energy that is coupled into the layer is controlled by altering the externally applied electrical field intensity so as to change the reflected light intensity, thus realizing electro-optic modulation. The modulator is characteristic of low insert loss, high response speed, high stability and low cost. Compared with the conventional polymer electro-optic modulator using prism coupling technique, the novel modulator is more compact and easier to be integrated.
