David Crystal,an internationally noted linguist, advocates that ever since the 1990s there have been three major trends:the emergence of English as the world' s first truly global language, the crisis facing huge numbers of languages which are currently endangered or dying, and the radical elfeet on language of the arrival of Intemet technology. And he argues that the three trends have fundamentally altered the world's linguistic ecology. Based on a series books abut these topics Crystal has published in the past few years, this paper presents a summary of his main ideas of "the language revolution",and his analysis and reflections on language ecology and language themes in the 21st century in particular.
