Methyl pheophorbide-α was used as starting material and converted into methyl pyropheophorbide-α 2 by heating under acid condition. The vinyl group was oxidized into formyl group with osmium oxide and sodium peridate to give methyl pyropheophorbide - d 4the Knoevenagel reaction of this chlorin aldehyde with curcumin was carried out to complete the synthesis of methyl pyropheophorbide -α with curcumin chemical structures The structures of all these new compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, UV, IR and ^1H NMR spectra.
