翻译因差异而生,然而不同的译者对差异的态度和处理方式各异。赛珍珠以体现差异为旨,采用异化策略翻译了《水浒传》。在文化发展和交流中,保持原作在译语文化体系中折射出来的差异性具有重要意义和必要性。但是,异化翻译并非复制原作,而是一种尊重差异的翻译策略,在它指导下译者可以采取适当的具体技巧。同时,异化翻译策略是一种引导文本进入陌生世界的方式,它的实施需要一个过程和适当的条件。
While difference brings necessity for translation, there may be different ways for translators to deal with difference. In order to show the differences that All Men Are Brothers displays to English-speaking people, Pearl S. Buck adopted the strategy of foreignization in her translation. During the course of cultural development and exchange, foreignization, as a translation strategy, has shown great significance and necessity. Nevertheless, foreignizing translation cannot be understood as copying of the source text, but a translation strategy that respects difference and may direct translators to choose appropriate translation skills. Meanwhile, as a means of introducing a text to a foreign world, the adoption of foreignizing translation needs proper conditions.
