穆王“大起九师,至于九江”实指西周王朝政治、军事势力伸入至今湖南省北部古越人所居之洞庭湖一带。该记录为我们研究扬越族早期的历史地理及西周王朝中期对南土拓殖的情况提供了一条极宝贵的信史资料及可寻的重要历史线索。
KingMu's leading an army to Jiujiang indicated that the political and military forces of Western Zhou Dynasty had reached Dongting lake basin ,north of Hunan province today,where ancient Yuezu lived .The record provided us a valuable history materials and an important history clue to study the early historical geography of Yangyue zu and Western Zhou Dynasty's opening up its southern border areas in its middle period.
