摘要
一个多世纪来,华裔在美国的社会地位发生了巨大变化,华裔文化也越发面临着认同的问题。对华裔民俗生活的研究是理解华裔对传统文化认同的一个关键。目前,美国的华裔散居民的日常民俗生活开始受到学界注意。由此,本文首先简介美国的少数族群民俗研究历史与现状,然后论述华裔民俗研究状况。基于跨学科的理论思考,本文提出"认同符号"和"第三文化"等观念来理解散居民对传统的认同问题,试图说明民俗学可以为此研究提供有益的方法与思路。
Ethnic identity developed into a research area in the United States in the 1950s when folkloristics earned its disciplinary status,and thus became a core issue in folklore studies.In fact,since the establishment of American Folklore Society in 1888,the Society's research goals were based on cultural continuity and transformation of the 'minority groups' or different 'racial/ethnic groups,' as the 'folk' was considered to be the 'low' ethnic and social groups.However,the Chinese in the United States at that time were not even included in such 'folk.' Over a century passed,Chinese Americans have experienced up-side-down changes.Chinese American cultural identity becomes an immediate issue.To understand how Chinese tradition plays its role in the formation Chinese American identity,it is crucial to look at Chinese American folklore practice.The reason is that in identifying to any culture or tradition,whether from individual or group point of view,it is essential to maintain the cultural identity through everyday practices which express the values and beliefs in the culture.Scholars only now began to pay attention to Chinese diaspora folklore.This study first introduces the history and current state of the studies of ethnic folklore,and the situation about Chinese diaspora folklore.Based on interdisciplinary reflection,this article proposes the ideas like 'identity marker' and 'third culture,' hoping to inspire further studies on the topic.
