Why Steam Engine Failed to Drive Economic Growth Late in Qing Dynasty:Discussion Based on Exogenous Technological Shocks and Impediment of Interest Groups

摘要为什么近代中国在相当长的时间里没有能够利用西方的工业革命技术实现经济长期增长?文章在一个标准的GPTs(General Purpose Technologies,一般用途技术)框架内分析了这一问题。首先,中国需要为工业革命做必要的准备;其次,晚清洋务派在引入西方先进技术的同时,自身又成为新的利益集团,阻碍西方先进技术在中国的进一步引入和扩散。利益集团阻碍新技术的引入是中国迟迟不能够转向西方工业革命技术一个非常重要的原因。 Why had modern China failed to utilize technologies of western industrial revolution to propel long-term economic growth?
