摘要
20世纪90年代以来,我与中国同行共同见证了欧美技术哲学进入中国的过程。作为一个外国学者,在观察由此发展而来的中国特色的西方技术哲学时,实际上对此持有某种难以名状的"怀疑的"态度——当然,将这一态度判释为"怀疑的"可能又未必确切。因为在想到"怀疑的"之前,我曾尝试用过"不满意的"或"不自在的",但总觉得这些词语都未必完全准确。从另外一个角度讲,亦可说我想表达的是一种"反美"的情绪。总之,我找不到"确定的"正确表达,也许它本身就是"不确定的"。
The founding American philosophy of technology was an aggressive pro-technology ideology allied variously with Protestant Christianity,capitalism,and warfare,overlaid with a radical individualist libertarianism.Coming from this world and skeptical about its ultimate prospects,I became attracted to Chinese culture,its different foundations,and its interactions with engineering and technology.Chinese philosophers of technology have taught me a new appreciation for heroic engineering as able to free the country from colonial imperialism and liberate hundreds of millions from poverty.In the process of learning from the contributions Chinese philosophers are making to the emergent field of the philosophy of engineering and technology,I have become critical of my own assumptions—yet at the same time wanting to invite my Chinese colleagues to entertain the potential counter productivity and fragility of our techno-lifeworld.
