The depression mechanism of sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite in the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite still lacked in-depth insight.Therefore,the depression mechanism of sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite in the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite was further systematically investigated with experiments and density functional theory(DFT)calculations.The X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy(XPS)results,DFT calculation results,and frontier molecular orbital analysis indicated that sulfite ions were difficult to be adsorbed on sphalerite surface,suggesting that sulfite ions achieved depression effects on sphalerite through other non-adsorption mechanisms.First,the oxygen content in the surface of sphalerite treated with sulfite ions in creased,which enhanced the hydrophilicity of the sphalerite and further increased the difference in hydrophilicity between sphalerite and galena.Then,sulfite ions were chelated with lead ions to form PbSO_(3)in solution.The hydrophilic PbSO_(3)was more easily adsorbed on sphalerite than galena.The interaction between sulfite ions and lead ions could effectively inhibit the activation of sphalerite.In addition the UV spectrum showed that after adding sulfite ions,the peak of perxanthate in the sphalerite treated xanthate solution was significantly stronger than that in the galena with xanthate solution,indicating that xanthate interacted more readily with sulfite ions and oxygen mo lecules within the sphalerite system,leading to the formation of perxanthate.However,sulfite ions hardly depressed the flotation of ga lena and could promote the flotation of galena to some extent.This study deepened the understanding of the depression mechanism o sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite. 展开更多

The increase to the proportion of fluxed pellets in the blast furnace burden is a useful way to reduce the carbon emissions in the ironmaking process.In this study,the interaction between calcium carbonate and iron ore powder and the mineralization mechanism of fluxed iron ore pellet in the roasting process were investigated through diffusion couple experiments.Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy was used to study the elements’diffusion and phase transformation during the roasting process.The results indicated that limestone decomposed into calcium oxide,and magnetite was oxidized to hematite at the early stage of preheating.With the increase in roasting temperature,the diffusion rate of Fe and Ca was obviously accelerated,while the diffusion rate of Si was relatively slow.The order of magnitude of interdiffusion coefficient of Fe_(2)O_(3)-CaO diffusion couple was 10^(−10) m^(2)·s^(−1) at a roasting temperature of 1200℃for 9 h.Ca_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5) was the initial product in the Fe_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2) diffusion interface,and then Ca_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5) continued to react with Fe_(2)O_(3) to form CaFe_(2)O_(4).With the expansion of the diffusion region,the sillico-ferrite of calcium liquid phase was produced due to the melting of SiO_(2) into CaFe_(2)O_(4),which can strengthen the consolidation of fluxed pellets.Furthermore,andradite would be formed around a small part of quartz particles,which is also conducive to the consolidation of fluxed pellets.In addition,the principle diagram of limestone and quartz diffusion reaction in the process of fluxed pellet roasting was discussed. 展开更多

Herein,a first-principles investigation was innovatively conducted to research the surface oxidation of ZnS-like sphalerite in the absence and presence of H_(2)O .The findings showed that single O_(2) was preferred to be dissociated adsorption on sphalerite surface by generating SAO and Zn AO bonds,and the S atom on the surface was the most energy-supported site for O_(2) adsorption,on which a≡Zn-O-S-O-Zn≡structure will be formed.However,dissociated adsorption of single H_(2)O will not happen.It was preferred to be adsorbed on the top Zn atom on sphalerite surface in molecular form through Zn-O bond.Besides,sphalerite oxidation can occur as if O_(2) was present regardless of the presence of H_(2)O ,and when H_(2)O and O_(2) coexisted,the formation of sulfur oxide(SO_(2) )needed a lower energy barrier and it was easier to form on sphalerite surface than that only O_(2) existed.In the absence of H_(2)O ,when SO_(2) was generated,further oxidation of which would form neutral zinc sulfate.In the presence of H_(2)O ,the formation of SO_(2) on sphalerite surface was easier and the rate of further oxidation to form sulfate was also greater.Consequently,the occurrence of sphalerite oxidation was accelerated. 展开更多

As a cornerstone of the national economy,the iron and steel industry generates a significant amount of sintering dust containing both valuable lead resources and deleterious elements.Flotation is a promising technique for lead recovery from sintering dust,but efficient separation from Fe_(2)O_(3) is still challenging.This study investigated the cooperative effect of sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS,C_(12)H_(25)SO_(4)Na)and sodium pyrophosphate(SPP,Na_(4)P_(2)O_(7))on the selective flotation of lead oxide minerals(PbOHCl and PbSO_(4))from hematite(Fe_(2)O_(3)).Optimal flotation conditions were first identified,resulting in high recovery of lead oxide minerals while inhibiting Fe_(2)O_(3) flotation.Zeta potential measurements,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)analysis,adsorption capacity analysis,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)studies offer insights into the adsorption behaviors of the reagents on mineral surfaces,revealing strong adsorption of SLS on PbOHCl and PbSO_(4) surfaces and remarkable adsorption of SPP on Fe_(2)O_(3).The proposed model of reagent adsorption on mineral surfaces illustrates the selective adsorption behavior,highlighting the pivotal role of reagent adsorption in the separation process.These findings contribute to the efficient and environmentally friendly utilization of iron ore sintering dust for lead recovery,paving the way for sustainable resource management in the iron and steel industry. 展开更多

The adsorption behaviors and mechanisms of gold from thiosulfate solution on strong-base anion exchange resin were systematically investigated.The comparison experiment of adsorption ability and selectivity for gold showed that gel Amberlite IRA-400 resin with Type Ⅰ quaternary ammonium functional group had better adsorption performance.The increases of resin dosage,ammonia concentration and solution pH were favorable to gold adsorption,whereas the rises of cupric and thiosulfate concentrations were disadvantageous to gold loading.Microscopic characterization results indicated that gold was adsorbed in the form of [Au(S_(2)O_(3))_(2)]^(3–) complex anion by exchanging with the counter ion Cl^(–) in the functional group of the resin.Density functional theory calculation result manifested that gold adsorption was mainly depended on the hydrogen bond and van der Waals force generated between O atom in [Au(S_(2)O_(3))_(2)]^(3–) and H atom in the quaternary ammonium functional group of the resin. 展开更多

Rotary kiln process for iron ore oxide pellet production is hard to detect and control.Construction of one-dimensional model of temperature field in rotary kiln was described.And the results lay a solid foundation for online control.Establishment of kiln process control expert system was presented,with maximum temperature of pellet and gas temperature at the feed end as control cores,and interval estimate as control strategy.Software was developed and put into application in a pellet plant.The results show that control guidance of this system is accurate and effective.After production application for nearly one year,the compressive strength and first grade rate of pellet are increased by 86 N and 2.54%,respectively,while FeO content is 0.05% lowered.This system can reveal detailed information of real time kiln process,and provide a powerful tool for online control of pellet production. 展开更多

The steel industry is considered an important basic sector of the national economy,and its high energy consumption and carbon emissions make it a major contributor to climate change,especially in China.The majority of crude steel in China is produced via the energy-and carbon-intensive blast furnace–basic oxygen furnace(BF–BOF)route,which greatly relies on coking coal.In recent years,China’s steel sector has made significant progress in energy conservation and emission reduction,driven by decarbonization policies and regulations.However,due to the huge output of crude steel,the steel sector still produces 15%of the total national CO_(2) emissions.The direct reduced iron(DRI)plus scrap–electric arc furnace(EAF)process is currently considered a good alternative to the conventional route as a means of reducing CO_(2) emissions and the steel industry’s reliance on iron ore and coking coal,since the gas-based DRI plus scrap–EAF route is expected to be more promising than the coal-based one.Unfortunately,almost no DRI is produced in China,seriously restricting the development of the EAF route.Here,we highlight the challenges and pathways of the future development of DRI,with a focus on China.In the short term,replacing natural gas with coke oven gas(COG)and byproduct gas from the integrated refining and chemical sector is a more economically feasible and cleaner way to develop a gas-based route in China.As the energy revolution proceeds,using fossil fuels in combination with carbon capture,utilization,and storage(CCUS)and hydrogen will be a good alternative due to the relatively low cost.In the long term,DRI is expected to be produced using 100%hydrogen from renewable energy.Both the development of deep processing technologies and the invention of a novel binder are required to prepare high-quality pellets for direct reduction(DR),and further research on the one-step gas-based process is necessary. 展开更多

The utilization of arsenic-containing gold dressing tailings is an urgent issue faced by gold production companies worldwide.The thermodynamic analysis results indicate that ferrous arsenate(FeAsO_(4)),pyrite(FeS_(2))and sodium cyanide(NaCN)in the arsenic-containing gold metallurgical tailings can be effectively removed using straight grate process,and the removal of pyrite and sodium cyanide is basically completed during the preheating stage,while the removal of ferrous arsenate requires the roasting stage.The pellets undergo a transformation from magnetite to hematite during the preheating process,and are solidified through micro-crystalline bonding and high-temperature recrystallization of hematite(Fe_(2)O_(3))during the roasting process.Ultimately,pellets with removal rates of 80.77% for arsenic,88.78% for sulfur,and 99.88% for cyanide are obtained,as well as the iron content is 61.1% and the compressive strength is 3071 N,meeting the requirements for blast furnace burden.This study provides an industrially feasible method for treating arsenic-containing gold smelting tailings,benefiting gold production enterprises. 展开更多

A novel hydroxamic acid,N-hydroxy-9,10-epoxy group-octadecanamide(N-OH-9,10-O-ODA),was synthesised by modifying the structure of oleic acid.The carboxyl group of oleic acid was converted into an N-hydroxy amide group,and an epoxy group was introduced into its structure.N-OH-9,10-O-ODA was used as a novel collector in the flotation separation of spodumene from one of its associated gangue minerals,specifically albite.N-OH-9,10-O-ODA exhibits remarkable selectivity,with a stronger affinity for collecting spodumene particles compared to albite particles.Zeta potential measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis reveal that the adsorption quantity of N-OH-9,10-O-ODA on spodumene surface is comparable to that on albite surface.First-principles calculations demonstrate the diverse adsorption configurations of N-OH-9,10-O-ODA on surfaces of spodumene and albite,leading to its distinct collecting abilities for spodumene and albite particles. 展开更多

Captured by the environmental and economic value,the recycling of spent lithium iron phosphate(LFP)batteries has attracted numerous attentions.However,hydrometallurgical method still suffers from complex process,and hydrothermal method is limited by morphology control,ascribed to the strong polarity of water.Herein,supported by ethanol as crystal surface modifier,the regular(010)orientation and short b-axis are effectively tailored for regenerated LFP.As Li-storage cathode,the capacities of as-optimized LFP could reach up to 157.07 mA h g^(-1)at 1 C,and the stable capacity of 150.50 mA h g^(-1)could be remained with retention of 93.48%after 400 cycles at 1 C.Even at 10 C,their capacity could be still kept about 119.3 m A h g^(-1).Assisted by the detail analysis of adsorption energy,the clear growth mechanism is proposed,the lowest adsorbing energy(-4.66 eV)of ethanol on(010)crystal plane renders the ordered growth along(010)crystal plane.Given this,the work is expected to shed light on the tailoring mechanism of internal plane about regenerated materials,whilst providing effective strategies for highperformance regenerated LFP. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effects of processing pH stimulation on bioleaching of chalcopyrite by moderate thermophiles,copper leaching rates and the dynamics of microbial community structures of free and attached cells were monitored. The results indicated that when the processing pH values were respectively adjusted to 1.0 and 3.0 on day 14, both free and attached cells experienced an adaptive phase. Meanwhile, the copper leaching rates were 86.9% and 64.0%,respectively, as opposed to a copper leaching rate of 87.5% in the control group without pH stimulation. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis suggested that pH stimulation imposed less impact on the attached organisms than on the free cells, indicating that the attached cells were more resistant to processing pH stimulation than the free cells. Furthermore, adjusting processing pH to 3.0 significantly disrupted both free and attached microbial communities, and the bioleaching system could not recover to the normal status as the control group. 展开更多

Flotation separation of calcite from fluorite is a challenge on low-grade fluorite flotation that limits the recovery and purity of fluorite concentrate.A new acid leaching–flotation process for fluorite is proposed in this work.This innovative process raised the fluor-ite’s grade to 97.26wt%while producing nanoscale calcium carbonate from its leachate,which contained plenty of calcium ions.On the production of nanoscale calcium carbonate,the impacts of concentration,temperature,and titration rate were examined.By modifying the process conditions and utilizing crystal conditioning agents,calcite-type and amorphous calcium carbonates with corresponding particle sizes of 1.823 and 1.511μm were produced.The influence of the impurity ions Mn^(2+),Mg^(2+),and Fe^(3+)was demonstrated to reduce the particle size of nanoscale calcium carbonate and make crystal shape easier to manage in the fluorite leach solution system compared with the calcium chloride solution.The combination of the acid leaching–flotation process and the nanoscale calcium carbonate preparation method improved the grade of fluorite while recovering calcite resources,thus presenting a novel idea for the effective and clean usage of low-quality fluorite resources with embedded microfine particles. 展开更多

To evaluate the feasibility of recovering Pb and Zn sulfides and Ag-containing minerals from Zn leaching residue by the process of reduction roasting followed by flotation,the reaction behaviors of Pb and Zn sulfates during this process were investigated.Chemical analysis showed that the transformation ratios of PbSO4 and ZnSO4 could reach 65.51%and 52.12%,respectively,after reduction roasting,and the introduction of a sulfidation agent could improve the transformation ratios of these sulfates.scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS)revealed that temperature obviously affects the particle size,crystal growth,and morphology of the artificial Pb and Zn sulfide minerals.Particle size analysis demonstrated that the particle size of the materials increases after roasting.Flotation tests revealed that a flotation concentrate composed of 12.01wt%Pb,27.78wt%Zn,and 6.975×10^(−2)wt%Ag with recoveries of 60.54%,29.24%,and 57.64%,respectively,could be obtained after roasting. 展开更多

The differences in XRD patterns, elemental compositions, FT-IR spectra and TG-DSC curves of extract residues obtained by NaOH, and NaOH assisted with anthraguinone (AQ) extraction procedures were studied. The extract residues are mainly comprised of humin fractions associated with inorganic minerals. XRD analysis shows that there is no typical peak of organic carbon because those organic humin fractions appear as a highly disordered substance. The peak of quartz is dominant. The elementary analysis shows that assistant AQ in NaOH solution can break the link of organic humic substances with inorganic minerals. And aromatization degree of humin fractions obtained by NaOH is smaller than that obtained by NaOH assisted with AQ. FT-IR analysis displays that various groups exist in those two humin fractions obtained by different extraction procedures. There are some differences in FT-IR curves between two humin fractions. TG-DSC analysis shows that thermal decomposition occurs during the heating of testing samples. By contrast, the humin fractions associated with inorganic minerals obtained by NaOH possess a higher thermal decomposition range. 展开更多

In order to reduce the materials cost of COREX ironmaking process,sinter has been introduced into the composite burden in China.This work explored the reducing process of sinter in COREX shaft furnace to clarify its reduction properties change and then the effect of sinter proportion on metallurgical performance of composite burden was investigated.The results show that the reducing process of sinter in COREX shaft furnace was basically same with that in blast furnace but sinter seems like breaking faster.Under reducing condition simulated COREX shaft furnace,sinter possessed the worst reduction degradation index(RDI)and undifferentiated reduction index(RI)compared with pellet and iron ore lumps.Macroscopic and microscopic mineralogy changes indicated that sinter presents integral cracking while pellet and lump ore present surface cracking,and no simple congruent relationship exists between cracks of the burden and its ultimate reduction degradation performance.The existence of partial metallurgical performance superposition between composite and single ferrous burden was confirmed.RDI_(+6.3)≥70%and RDI_(+3.15)≥80%were speculated as essential requirements for the composite burden containing sinter in COREX shaft furnace. 展开更多

This study aimed to investigate the effect of varying pyrite(Py)content on copper(Cu)in the presence of different regrinding conditions,which were altered using different types of grinding media:iron,ceramic balls,and their mixture,followed by flotation in the cleaner stage.The flotation performance of rough Cu concentrate can be improved by changing the regrinding conditions based on the Py content.Scanning electron microscopy,X-ray spectrometry,ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt extraction,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies illustrated that when the Py content was high,the use of iron media in regrinding promoted the generation of hydrophilic Fe OOH on the surface of Py and improved the Cu grade.The ceramic medium with a low Py content prevented excessive Fe OOH from covering the surface of chalcopyrite(Cpy).Electrochemical studies further showed that the galvanic corrosion current of Cpy-Py increased with the addition of Py and became stronger with the participation of iron media. 展开更多

The hot deformation behaviors of Cr5 steel were investigated.The hot compression tests were conducted in the temperature range of 900-1150 °C under strain rates of 0.01,0.1 and 1 s^(-1).The constitutive equation and material constants(Q,n,α ln A) are obtained according to the hyperbolic sine function and Zener-Hollomon parameter.Besides,dynamic recrystallization(DRX) grain size model and critical strain model are acquired.The processing maps with the strain of 0.1,0.3 and 0.5 are obtained on the basis of dynamic materials model.It has been observed that DRX occurs at high temperature and low strain rate.According to the processing map,the safety region exists in the temperature range of 920-1150 °C with strain rate of 0.01-0.20 s^(-1). 展开更多
