Exploration risk probability is predicted by multivariate statistics, fuzzy mathematics and information processing techniques.A spatial attribute database for sample wells was set up and the Mahalanobis distance and Fuzzy value of given samples were obtained. Then, the Bayesian formula was used to calculate the hydrocarbon-bearing probability at the area of exploration wells. Finally,a hydrocarbon probability template is formed and used to forecast the probability of the unknown area. The hydrocarbon abundance is simulated based on Fourier integrals, frequency spectrum synthesis and fractal theory.Firstly, the fast Fourier transformation(FFT) is used to transform the known hydrocarbon abundance from the spatial domain to the frequency domain, then, frequency spectrum synthesis is used to produce the fractal frequency spectrum, and FFT is applied to get the phase information of hydrocarbon-bearing probability. Finally, the frequency spectrum simulation is used to calculate the renewed hydrocarbon abundance in the play. This method is used to predict the abundance and possible locations of the undiscovered petroleum accumulations in the Nanpu Sag of the Bohai Bay Basin,China. The prediction results for the well-explored onshore area of the northern Nanpu Sag agree well with the actual situations. For the less-explored offshore areas in the southern Nanpu Sag,the prediction results suggest high hydrocarbon abundance in Nanpu-1 and Nanpu-2,providing a useful guiding for future exploration.展开更多

The marine source rocks are mainly Paleozoic and Mesozoic onshore whereas Tertiary offshore. Three genetic categories of oil-gas reservoirs have been defined for the marine reservoirs in China: primary reservoirs, secondary reservoirs and hydrocarbon-regeneration reservoirs. And three exploration prospects have also been suggested: (1) Primary reservoirs prospects, which are chiefly distributed in many Tertiary basins of the South China Sea (SCS), the Tertiary shelf basins of the East China Sea (ECS) and the Paleozoic of Tarim basin, Sichuan basin and Ordos basin. To explore large-middle-scale even giant oil-gas fields should chiefly be considered in this category reservoirs. These basins are the most hopeful areas to explore marine oil-gas fields in China, among which especially many Tertiary basins of the SCS should be strengthened to explore. (2) Secondary reservoirs prospects, which are mainly distributed in the Paleozoic and Mesozoic of the Tarim basin, Sichuan basin, Qiangtang basin and Chuxiong basin in western China, of which exploration potential is less than that of the primary reservoirs. (3) Hydrocarbon-regeneration reservoirs prospects, which are chiefly distributed in the Bohai Bay basin, North Jiangsu-South Yellow Sea basin, southern North China basin, Jianghan basin, South Poyang basin in eastern China and the Tarim basin in western China, of which source rocks are generally the Paleozoic. And the reservoirs formed by late-stage (always Cenozoic) secondary hydrocarbon generation of the Paleozoic source rocks should mainly be considered to explore, among which middle-small and small oil-gas fields are the chief exploration targets. As a result of higher thermal evolution of Paleozoic and Mesozoic source rocks, the marine reservoirs onshore are mainly gas fields, and so far marine oil fields have only been found in the Tarim basin. No other than establishing corresponding marine oil-gas exploration and development strategy and policy, sufficiently enhancing cognition to the particularity and complexity of China's marine petroleum geology, and applying new thoughts, new theories and new technologies, at the same time tackling some key technologies, it is possible to fast and effectually exploit and utilize the potential huge marine oil-gas resources of China.展开更多

Providing consistent and unbiased estimates of geological risk for all exploration targets in an area of interest is essential in risk evaluation. This paper discusses the potential use of an object-based stochastic procedure for geological risk evaluation at the play level. The object-based model of Super SD, as a data integration tool, can integrate geological information of petroleum system elements that control occurrences of petroleum pools with the spatial correlation characteristics of the discoveries in a play. Other information, such as the estimated total play potential and size characteristics, from conventional resource assessments can be also incorporated into the model as geological constraints. The uncertainty associated with the data and domain knowledge in the predicted pool locations is expressed as a probability map, representing the geological exploration risk of the play. By incorporating all available inibrmation and checking the consistency of models with geological constraints, the object-based model improves predictions of petroleum occurrences, thus enhancing the associated risk evaluation. The proposed method was applied to the fractured petroleum play of the western Qaidam Basin in northwestern China in order to illustrate the use of the object-based method for risk evaluation.展开更多

The perfectly matched layer (PML) has proved to be the best available ABC. However, the traditional splitting PML (SPML) ABC has some serious disadvantages: for example, global SPML ABCs require much more computing memory, although the implementation is easy. The implementation of local SPML ABCs also has some difficulties, since edges and corners must be considered. The traditional non-splitting perfectly matched layer (NPML) ABC has complex computation because of the convolution. In this paper, based on non-splitting perfectly matched layer (NPML) ABCs combined with the complex frequency-shifted stretching function (CFS), we introduce a novel numerical implementation method for PML absorbing boundary conditions with simple calculation equations, small memory requirement, and easy programming.展开更多

The joint inversion was performed using three or more partial stacks to overcome the singularity of post-stack seismic inversion that can not satisfy the requirements of complex reservoir description and to avoid the instability of the inversion result caused by low signal-noise ratio in the pre-stack gather. The basic theory of prestack elastic impedance inversion is briefly described in this paper and, using real data of the GD oilfield, the key steps of angle gather wavelet extraction, horizon calibration, S-wave velocity prediction, and elastic parameter extraction were analyzed and studied. The comprehensive interpretation of multiple elastic parameters determined from log analysis is a key to improving the effect ofprestack seismic inversion.展开更多

In this paper, we first compare the an empirical formula for porosity calculation from full diameter rhyolite core experiments with the matrix porosity formulas commonly used. We discuss the applicability of the empirical formula in fractured and vuggy reservoirs, such as intermediate-basic volcanics and weathered dolomite. Based on core analysis data, the error distribution of the calculated porosity of our empirical formula and the other porosity formulas in these reservoirs are given. The statistical error analysis indicates that the our empirical formula provides a higher precision than the other porosity formulas. When the porosity is between 1.5% and 15%, the acoustic experiment formula can be used not only for acidic volcanics but also in other fractured and vuggy reservoirs, such as intermediate-basic volcanics and weathered dolomite. Moreover, the formula can reduce the effects of borehole enlargement and rock alteration on porosity computation.展开更多

In this paper, we propose an approach to datum correction that combines a joint tomography inversion with wavefield continuation to solve the static problem for seismic data on rugged acquisition topography. First, the near surface model is obtained by refracted wave tomography inversion. Second, the wavefield of sources and receivers are continued downward and upward to accomplish datum correction starting from a flat surface and locating the datum above topography. Based on the reciprocal theorem, Huygens' and Fresnel principles, the location of sources and receivers, and regarding the recorded data on the surface as a secondary emission, the sources and receivers are upward-continued to the datum above topography respectively. Thus, the datum correction using joint tomography inversion and wavefield continuation with the condition of a complex near surface is accomplished.展开更多

Second, we make fault and structural interpretations based on the structural characteristics of the outcrop pictures. So a study of the economic effect of a single well at its preliminary stage is helpful for commercial exploitation of CBM. Affected by wellbore flow pressure, initial reservoir pressure, relative permeability, Langmuir pressure and other factors, the trend of declining production of a single CBM well agrees, by and large, with a hyperbolic pattern of decline. Based on Arps’s equation, nearly 200 wells production with different peak yields and initial rates of were simulated. Given the present cost of drill- ing, gas production and engineering on the ground, the gross investment for the development of a single coalbed methane well was estimated for the Fanzhuang block in central China. Considering the current industrial policies for CBM, we established an eco- nomic assessment model and analyzed economic peaks. The results show the economic benefits with or without government subsi- dies at different peak yields of a single CBM well. The results of the evaluation can be directly applied in the Fanzhuang block. The evaluation method, formulated in our study, can be used to other areas with similar conditions.展开更多

At present,in all the deliverability equation, the additional pressure drop caused by the threshold pressure gradient is viewed as constant, but this method has big error in the practical application. Based on the non-Darcy steady flow equation, the limited integral of the additional pressure drop is solved in this paper and it is realized that the additional pressure drop is not a constant but has something to do with production data, and a new deliverability equation is derived, with the relevant processing method for modified isochronal test data. A large number of subsurface and outcrop samples differing in lithology with different types of organic matter were selected for resource evaluation, research and calculation. And among them,13 samples were used for simulation experiment on hydrocarbon generating potential of various source rocks. At first, two kinds of heating modes were compared through simulation experiment, including single temperature-step heating and continual heating. Perhaps, the process of hydrocarbon generation and expulsion occurred naturally between a close system and an open system. In addition, the first heating mode was convenient, and all its reaction products were involved in the whole thermal evolution, and the final simulation experimental results were basically in consistency with the natural evolution trend. Therefore, the first heating mode was adopted and the hydrocarbon yield of every sample was worked out. Accord-ing to the type and lithology of organic matter and the hydrocarbon yield of samples for simulation experiment,hy-drocarbon generation and expulsion mode with three kinds of lithology and five types of source rock has been estab-lished to provide the basis for hydrocarbon generation evaluation, research and resource calculation.展开更多

This is an essential way to make oil companies shoulder their social responsibilities. According to the State Council and the Ministry of Finance, the graduated tax rate starts at 20 percent and rises with the barrel price. A maximum 40 percent tax is charged for barrels that are USS60 and higher. It will be calculated every month, and companies are required to make quarterly payments.展开更多

Currently, there are more than 4,000 producing oilfields in the world, producing around 68 million barrels of oil per day. Most oilfields in the world are minor ones, with oil production below 20,000 barrels per day; only 3% (about 120) oilfields in the world produce over 100,000 barrels per day with overall daily production exceeding 32 million barrels, which accounts for 47% of the total world oil supply . The scales of the oilfields heavily influence economic indices like investment, production and life spans of the oilfields. Therefore, giant oilfields have always been the dream of oil finders and targets of geologists' researches .展开更多

文摘In order to obtain effective parameters for complex sand reservoirs,a log evaluation method for relevant reservoir parameters is established based on an analysis in the gas-bearing sandstone with high porosity and low permeability, low porosity and permeability and on various characteristics of log responses to reservoir lithologies and physical properties in the Neopleozoic sand reservoir of the Ordos basin. This log evaluation method covers the Cook method that is used to evaluate the porosity and oiliness in high porosity and low permeability reservoirs and another method in which the mineral content, derived from geochemical logs,is used to identify formation lithologies. Some areas have high calcium and low silt content, not uniformly distributed, the results of which show up in the complex formation lithologies and conventional log responses with great deviation. The reliability of the method is verified by comparison with conventional log data and core analyses. The calculation results coincide with the core analytical data and gas tests, which indicate that this log evaluation method is available, provides novel ideas for study of similar complex reservoir lithologies and has some reference value.

文摘The development of coalbed methane (CBM) in China poses great difficulties because of high investments, low produc- tion and high risks. The evaluation method, formulated in our study, can be used to other areas with similar conditions.

文摘This paper provides a detailed description of the cepstrum and its application to computing the thickness of thin beds.By building several models, including models with a single reflection pair,a single layer, wedge model and multi-layered models, and comparing the cepstrum computed for all of them to the actual spacing values we conclude that the results of cepstral analysis are more accurate in predicting the thickness of the thin bed structures.

文摘The flowing mechanism of a low permeability gas reservoir is different from a conventional gas reservoir, especially for that with higher irreducible water saturation the threshold pressure gradient exists. The new deliverability equation turns out to be practical through onsite application.
文摘The northern margin of the Qaidam Basin is one of the main oil-gas exploration areas in western China, where source rocks are composed mostly of Middle and Lower Jurassic dark mud shale, carbargillite and coal. Accord-ing to the type and lithology of organic matter and the hydrocarbon yield of samples for simulation experiment,hy-drocarbon generation and expulsion mode with three kinds of lithology and five types of source rock has been estab-lished to provide the basis for hydrocarbon generation evaluation, research and resource calculation.

文摘China's Central Government began imposing a special profit tax on oil companies from March 26 so long as the prices of domestically produced crude oil exceed USS40 per barrel. This is an essential way to make oil companies shoulder their social responsibilities. According to the State Council and the Ministry of Finance, the graduated tax rate starts at 20 percent and rises with the barrel price. A maximum 40 percent tax is charged for barrels that are USS60 and higher. It will be calculated every month, and companies are required to make quarterly payments.
文摘World oil production and reserve additions heavily depend on giant oilfields. Therefore, giant oilfields have always been the dream of oil finders and targets of geologists' researches .

文摘Objective Plant phototropism means that trees on the side directly exposed to sunlight generally grow faster than those on the opposite, and positive phototropism is easy to observe in crown and trunk. In this study,we chose the transverse section of tree trunk to observe. The definitive intensity of plant phototropism ranges regularly from strong to weak and finally disappeared along with the latitudinal change from high to low.
