The effect of Morinda tinctoria(MT) leaves extract on the corrosion inhibition of Al in acid medium was studied. The inhibition studies were carried out on Al in 0.5 mol/L HCl with the extract of leaves of MT using mass loss and electrochemical techniques. Parameters, such as concentration of the inhibitor, concentration of the acid, temperature and concentration of halide ions, were varied and optimized. Increase of the temperature and concentration of acid can decrease the performance of the inhibitor. Thermodynamic parameters show that the physisorption of the inhibitor molecules on Al surface obeys Langmuir isotherm. 展开更多

Curcumin is a medicinal agent that exhibits anti-cancer properties and bioactive pigment in Turmeric has a huge thera-peutic value. It has a keto-enol moiety that gives rise to many of its chemical properties.A recent study has shown thatketo-enol tautomerisation at this moiety is implicated the effect of curcumin. The tautomerisation of curcumin in methanol.acetone and acetonitrile are used in nuclear magnetic resonance(^(1)H,^(13)C)spectroscopy.It was characterized using UV,IRand Raman spectral values. The molecular electrostatic potential surface of the Curcumin has been visualized in elec-tropositive potential in the region of the CH^(3+) group and most electronegative potential in the two oxygen atom has verystrong binding group. In the following, the modality of structural and thermo dynamical parameters, electrophilicity(ω).chemical potential(μ),chemical hardness(η) and electronic charge transfer confirms the local reactivity. The rate constantof tautomerisation of curcumin shows strong temperature dependence.Molecular electrostatic potential and Temperature dependence of various thermodynamic properties like(C^(0)_(p,m),S^(0)_(m),and H^(0)_(m))is increase with increase in temperature formonomer and dimer of various electrical fields. 展开更多

Objective:To study the in vitro cytotoxic activities of methanol extract of Portieria hornemannii(P.hornemannii)and Spyridia fusiformis(S.fusiformis)using Dalton’s lymphoma ascite and Ehrlich ascite carcinoma cell lines. Methods:The effect of cytotoxicity of P.hornemannii and S.fusiformis was evaluated with the concentrations(100 to 200μg/mL)and assessed for the antitumour activity vs.the selected cell lines using Trypan blue assay. Results:The methanol extracts of P.hornemannii and S.fusiformis showed potent cytotoxic activity with IC_(50)values of(209.00±0.05)μg/mL and(190.00±0.05)μg/mL against the Dalton’s lymphoma ascite cell line and IC_(50)values of(190.00±0.05)μg/mL and(182.00±0.05)μg/mL against the Ehrlich ascite carcinoma cell line respectively. In vitro cytotoxicity against the tested cancer cell lines showed strong activity by the abnormal activities of algal residue in the normal cells. Conclusions:The methanol solvent residue of red algae(P.hornemannii and S.fusiformis)could be a good candidate. It would be a novel marine resource as a antitumor medicine demonstrated by cytotoxic studies that the above marine algae can be a potential candidate sources as antitumor drugs. 展开更多

The molecular weight distributions were estimated for carbon fiber polymer precursors such as poly(acrylonitrile-co-itaconic acid) synthesized by semi batch solution polymerization in mixed solvents media with the azonitrile compounds as initiator under the different ratios of solvent and non solvent from 0.75 to 2.5 in weight. The copolymer was characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) analyses. The molecular weight distributions were evaluated by Mv/Mn ratios estimated from viscosity and osmotic measurements, and Mw/Mn estimated from size exclusion chromatography. The molecular weight distributions of these polymers as determined from M, JMn and Mw/Mn are 2.9 to 3,2 and 2.0 to 2.5 respectively. The molecular distributions were close to a narrow distribution of 2.0 when the solvent/non-solvent ratio was varied between 1.4 and 2.0. Intrinsic viscosity [η] as a function of molecular weight of poly(acrylonitrile-co-itaconic acid) was evaluated by means of low angle laser light scattering with size exclusion chromatography (SEC-LALLS) and viscometry with SEC (SEC-VISCO). The relationship between [η] and Mw for poly(acrylonitrile-co-itaconic acid) in DMF at 50℃ was [q] = 1.1×10-5 Mw0.79, where [η] is obtained in dL/g. 展开更多

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel(MS) in sulphuric acid using Luffa aegyptiaca(LA) leaves extract was investigated by weight loss studies, colorimetric measurements, potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The adsorption of LA leaves extract was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and optical profilometry. The inhibition efficiency increased with increasing concentration of the extract but decreased with rise in temperature and with the increase in acid strength. Furthermore, the inhibition efficiency synergistically increased on the addition of halide ions. Polarisation studies revealed that the LA extract acts as mixed- type inhibitor. Physical adsorption mechanism is proposed from the trend in inhibition efficiency with the change in temperature and from thermodynamic parameters. The adsorption of LA on MS surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm and follows the kinetic thermodynamic model of ElAwady at all temperatures studied. 展开更多

A rapid, efficient, and facile synthesis of an assortment of C-2 substituted imidazopyrazines has been achieved by utilizing the palladium catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling of 2-bromo-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyrazine with various boronic acids under microwave irradiation. The utilization of(A-^(ta)phos)_2PdCl_2 as a catalyst in combination with Cs F as base and DME-H_2O(4:1) as the solvent system at 100℃ procured the diaryls in acceptable to excellent yields. Prominent features of this developed methodology include short reaction times, fewer side products, and exceptional tolerance to a wide variety of functional groups. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the hepatoprotective activity of red algae Portieria hornemannii(Lyngbye)Silva(P.hornemannii)and Spyridia fusiformis Boergesen(S.fusiformis)by using the chromium treated rat liver as the animal model. Methods:The extract of red algae at a dosage of 0.200 g/kg of whole body weight was orally administrated to Cr(VI)intoxicated rats for 28 consecutive days. The effect of drug in rats was evaluated by comparing the degree of the production of enzymes responsible for antioxidant activity such lipid peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase and reduced glutathione with Cr(VI)analogs in the absence of any secondary treatment. The overall damage of liver was detected by measuring serum enzymes such as aspartate amino transferase and alanine aminotransferase activities which released into the blood from the damaged cells. Results:It was observed that these enzyme levels were noticed in the animals treated with methanol extracts of red algae(200 mg/kg)through preventing the leakage of the above enzymes into the blood. The hepatoprotection obtained using LIV 52(standard reference drug)appeared relatively higher. The antihepatotoxic potential of red algae P.hornemannii and S.fusiformis might be due to their antioxidative and membrane stabilizing activities. Conclusions:Our results indicated that the extract of P.hornemannii and S.fusiformis obtained from methanol could be a promising hepatoprotective agent against chromium(VI)-induced liver damage. 展开更多
