In this paper, the design and verification process of an automobile-engine-fan control system on chip (SoC) are introduced. The SoC system, SHU-MV08, reuses four new intellectual property (IP) cores and the design flow is accomplished with 0.35 btm chartered CMOS technology. Some special functions of IP cores, the detailed integration scheme of four IP cores, and the verification method of the entire SoC are presented. To settle the verification problems brought by analog IP cores, NanoSim based chip-level mixed-signal verification method is introduced. The verification time is greatly reduced and the first tape-out achieves success which proves the validity of our design. 展开更多

Aiming at the time redundancy in the fiat panel display (FPD) imaging process, the paper studied some problems for FPD gray scale controlling based on the fraetal theory, dissertates the construction of the space-time mapping topology architecture, the proposition of optimal scanning structure for FPD's gray imaging, and the creation of the fractal theoretic model. Then the logic implementation and system application are presented based on the fraetal model of the optimal scan architecture, and the application results achieved target of eliminating time redundancy and increasing the scanning availability. The novel control mode that the fractal scanning IP core described with Verilog language embedded in the FPGA hardware frame can efficiently increase the imaging gray scales and quality in the FPDs scanning controller and speed up the frame frequency of display system. 展开更多

Amorphous InGaZnO (a-IGZO) films were deposited on the corning eagle XG (EXG) glass substrates using magnetron sputtering method. The structure, surface morphology, electrical and optical properties of these films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), semiconductor parameter analyzer and 'spectrophotometry, respectively. The influence of oxygen flow on the electrical properties of IGZO thin films was studied, showing that increasing oxygen flow changes the resistivity with six orders of magnitude. The contact resistance of ITO/IGZO is 7.35×10^-2 Ω-cm2, which suggests that a good ohmic contact exists between In2O3 : Sn (ITO) and IGZO film. 展开更多

As the appearance of local dimming technique, the current existing test methods are not suitable for testing the power consumption of the LCD TVs using the local dimming technique any longer. A test method appropriate to LED backlight LCD TVs using the local dimming technique is proposed in this paper, and then the test software is developed. The results demonstrate that the test software developed can show the real average power consumption of the LCD using local dimming technique, and by normalization the power consumption become comparable for not only local dimming LCD TVs but global dimming LCD TVs. Using the software developed in this paper, the ratio of power saving is clear when an LCD TV using the local dimming technique compared with one without local dimming technique. 展开更多

This paper presents two n-channel organic heterojunction transistors with modified insulator by using hexadecafiuorophthalocyaninatocopper (F16CuPc)/copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and F16CuPc/pentacene as the active layers. Compared with a single-layer device, it reports that an improved field-effect mobility and a 6-fold higher drain current are observed. The highest mobility of 0.081 cm^2/(V. s) was obtained from F16CuPc/CuPc heterojunction devices. This result is attributed to the dual effects of the organic heterojunction and interface modification. Furthermore, for two heterojunction devices, the performance of the F16CuPc/CuPc-based transistor is better than that of F16CuPc/pentacene. This is attributed to the morphologic match of two organic components. 展开更多

The cost model of an area-time associated test and the corresponding lower bound of system-on-chip (SoC) test time are established based on this TAM architecture. The model provides a more reliable method to control the SoC scheduling and reduces the complexity in related algorithm research. Face recognition provides a natural visual interface for human computer interaction (HCI) applications. The process of face recognition, however, is inhibited by variations in the appearance of face images caused by changes in lighting, expression, viewpoint, aging and introduction of occlusion. Although various algorithms have been presented for face recognition, face recognition is still a very challenging topic. A novel approach of real time face recognition for HCI is proposed in the paper. In view of the limits of the popular approaches to foreground segmentation, wavelet multi-scale transform based background subtraction is developed to extract foreground objects. The optimal selection of the threshold is automatically determined, which does not require any complex supervised training or manual experimental calibration. A robust real time face recognition algorithm is presented, which combines the projection matrixes without iteration and kernel Fisher discriminant analysis (KFDA) to overcome some difficulties existing in the real face recognition. Superior performance of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by comparing with other algorithms through experiments. The proposed algorithm can also be applied to the video image sequences of natural HCI. 展开更多

This work applied the ultrasonic bonding to package flip chip GaN-based light emitting diodes (flip chip LEDs) on Si substrates. The effects of ultrasonic bonding parameters on the reliability of flip chip GaN-based LED were investigated. In the sequent aging tests, samples were driven with a constant current of 80 mA for hundreds hours at the room temperature. It was found that the electroluminescence (EL) intensity variation had a large correlation to the ultrasonic power, and then to the bonding temperature and force. A high bonding temperature and ultrasonic power and a proper bonding force improved the EL intensity significantly. It was contributed to a strong atom inter-diffusion forming a stable joint at the bonding interface, The temperature fluctuation in the aging test was the main factor to generate a high inner stress forming delamination at the interface between the chip and Au bump. As a result, delamination had retarded the photons to emit out of the LED packaging and decay its EL intensity. 展开更多

The bilayer organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) using two common aromatic diamines as hole transporting materials (HTMs) and BBOT (2,5-bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene) as electron transporting material have been prepared, in which the electroluminescent spectra are different from the fluorescent spectra of each of the constituent materials. The electroluminescence is mainly attributed to exciplex confirmed by photoluminescence and electroluminescence measurements, and the type of exicplex is deternfined in terms of the energy level diagram of the bilayer devices, By comparing the molecular structures and energy levels of TPD and NPB, it is demonstrated that the structure of a molecule as well as its energy level has an effect on the exciplex formation. 展开更多

This paper discusses a kind of optimal method used for searching flat panel display (FPD) scanning matrix. The method adopts bionic algorithm: genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The method using single GA is more time-consuming, and the search efficiency is low in later evolution; the PSO algorithm is easily falling into the local optimal solution and appears the premature convergent phenomenon. Hence, a hybrid approach of GAPSO is found to optimize the search for high grayscale weights scanning matrix. Finally in the acceptable time, it finds a weight scanning matrix (WSM) of 256 gray scales with Matlab, whose scanning efficiency reaches 94.73% and the linearity is very good. 展开更多

Adaptive early termination of fast mode decision in MVC based on inter-view correlation

Variable size motion estimation (ME) and disparity estimation (DE) are employed to select the best coding mode for each macroblock (MB) in the current joint multiview video model (JMVM). This technique achieves the highest possible coding efficiency, but it results in extremely large computation complexity which obstructs the multiview video coding (MVC) from practical application. This paper proposes an adaptive early termination of fast mode decision algorithm for MVC. It makes use of the coding information of the corresponding MBs in neighbor view based on inter-view correlation to early terminate the mode decision procedure. Experimental results show that the proposed fast mode decision algorithm can achieve computational 50% computation saving with no significant loss of rate distortion (RD) performance. 展开更多

The device shows a field effect mobility of 0.43 cm2/(V.s), on/off ratio of 7.5×10^6 and threshold voltage of 0.87 V. The instability of a-Si TFT is ascribed to the defect state in the a-Si channel and SiNx/a-Si interface. The present a-Si TFT array with SiNs insulator could be a significant step towards the commercialization of active matrix organic lighting diode (AM-OLED) technology. 展开更多

We have fabricated high-efficient white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) using two types of electron transport materials with different electron mobility. The effect of the electron mobility on the device performance is discussed. In addition, to generate the desired white emission and high color rendering index, we perform the structure design of OLED, in which the functions of co-host of blue and green dopants on chromatic-stability are investigated. Experimental results find that the maximum color rendering index reaches as high as 91 at the voltage of 8 V. 展开更多

Micro-pin-fin cooler mounted on the power chip enables the heat removal to meet modern microsystem requirement. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been proven as a potential material for micro-coolers due to the superior thermal conductivity, good mechanical property and so forth, and there appear various applications of CNTs in the micro-cooler technology. In the present paper, an analysis of the thermal and hydraulic characteristics of the micro-pin-fin heat sink was conducted, where air was used as the cooling medium and an impinging jet was introduced to enhance the heat transfer. Three-dimension computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were carried out for micro-pin-fin coolers with various parameters, including the pin-fin size and pattern as well as the jet velocity and nozzle diameter. The flow field and thermal properties of the. micro-pin-fin heat sink were obtained, and the heat removal efficiency was evaluated. 展开更多

The quality of virtual view based on multi-view video (MVD) plus depth format is often evaluated by PSNR or subjectively judged. However, due to synthesizing arbitrary view images, the virtual view images mostly have no reference images and are only assessed using non-reference. Virtual view images synthesized by depth estimation reference software (DERS) and view synthesis reference software (VSRS) often accompanied with blockiness and other distortions on the edge. In addition, matching level for the depth map and the corresponding texture maps of left and right views also affects the quality of the virtual view. This paper compares the edge similarity of the depth and the corresponding texture maps which generate the intermediate virtual view and combined with the virtual view's blockiness which causing blur to evaluate the quality of the virtual view. Experiment results show that the proposed method can reflect the quality of the virtual view better. 展开更多

Effect of annealing on wet etch of amorphous IGZO thin film

Amorphous InGaZnO (a-IGZO) film is deposited on the glass substrate by radio-frequency sputtering and the influence of annealing on wet etch of a-IGZO films were investigated. The results show that etch rate of IGZO films decrease with the increase of annealing temperature. Etching taper angle is less than 60° and critical dimension (CD) loss is less than 1μm in over-etching time of 30 s. The fact implies that IGZO films etching with oxalic acid may be a good wet etching way for the thin-film transistor (TFT) array process. 展开更多

The electroluminescence (EL) spectra of the TOLEDs are simulated based on the Fabry-Perot cavity theory. And the resonant modes in cavity structure of TOLEDs is discussed and clarified which can accurately describe the work principle of the devices. A fairly good match between calculated values and experimental data is achieved at different emission colors from bluish green to orange. 展开更多

Video retargeting using optimized crop-and-scale

Mobile devices are increasingly powerful in multimedia transmitting and browsing. However, the small screen and different aspect ratios of mobile devices lower visual quality while watching images or videos. Video retargeting is aim at fitting an existing video into arbitrary size and aspect ratio. Previous content-aware retargeting methods are mostly high computational cost, which limits their applications on the portable devices with low computation ability. In this paper, a new crop-and-scale approach is presented to adapt video to better suit the target display. We automatically find the optimal parameters of cropping window using the dynamic programming method,, and then scale it to fit the target display. The cropping window can smoothly shift during a shot to follow the movement'of important objects. The retargeting results using our approach introduce no deformation and jitter effects over the whole video. Experimental results show the success of our approach on adapting a variety of source videos to small display sizes. 展开更多

Depth maps are used for synthesis virtual view in free-viewpoint television (FTV) systems. When depth maps are derived using existing depth estimation methods, the depth distortions will cause undesirable artifacts in the synthesized views. To solve this problem, a 3D video quality model base depth maps (D-3DV) for virtual view synthesis and depth map coding in the FTV applications is proposed. First, the relationships between distortions in coded depth map and rendered view are derived. Then, a precisely 3DV quality model based depth characteristics is develop for the synthesized virtual views. Finally, based on D-3DV model, a multilateral filtering is applied as a pre-processed filter to reduce rendering artifacts. The experimental results evaluated by objective and subjective methods indicate that the proposed D-3DV model can reduce bit-rate of depth coding and achieve better rendering quality. 展开更多
