The fifth generation(5G) network is expected to support significantly large amount of mobile data traffic and huge number of wireless connections,to achieve better spectrum- and energy-efficiency,as well as quality of service(QoS) in terms of delay,reliability and security.Furthermore,the 5G network shall also incorporate high mobility requirements as an integral part,providing satisfactory service to users travelling at a speed up to 500 km/h.This paper provides a survey of potential high mobility wireless communication(HMWC) techniques for 5G network.After discussing the typical requirements and challenges of HMWC,key techniques to cope with the challenges are reviewed,including transmission techniques under the fast timevarying channels,network architecture with mobility support,and mobility management.Finally,future research directions on 5G high mobility communications are given. 展开更多

In this paper, we will introduce a new green communication paradigm, the ambient backscatter (AmBC), that could utilize the environmental wireless signals for both powering a tiny-cost device and backscattering the information symbols. Communication and positioning,the two pillars of mobile communication systems,are currently being integrated together.The development of communication technologies is the driving force of the positioning progress.In turn,the location information provided by positioning improves the communication performance in various ways.However,the competition of these two functions in terms of resource allocation is a critical issue hindering their integration.In this article,we investigate the trade-off for the integrated communication and data-assisted positioning in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems.A data-assisted positioning method is designed first,which uses both positioning reference signals(PRSs)and data signals for positioning.The positioning and communication performance are theoretically evaluated respectively,then combined to obtain an integrated performance metric.The trade-off is analyzed and the integrated performance is optimized considering the priority of different functions.Numerical simulations show that the data-assisted positioning can not only improve the positioning accuracy,but also reduce the PRS overhead.And the established integrated performance metric can identify the optimal performance and the corresponding resource allocation schemes. 展开更多

Hybrid Seagull and Whale Optimization Algorithm-Based Dynamic Clustering Protocol for Improving Network Longevity in Wireless Sensor Networks

Energy efficiency is the prime concern in Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) as maximized energy consumption without essentially limits the energy stability and network lifetime. Clustering is the significant approach essential for minimizing unnecessary transmission energy consumption with sustained network lifetime. This clustering process is identified as the Non-deterministic Polynomial(NP)-hard optimization problems which has the maximized probability of being solved through metaheuristic algorithms.This adoption of hybrid metaheuristic algorithm concentrates on the identification of the optimal or nearoptimal solutions which aids in better energy stability during Cluster Head(CH) selection. In this paper,Hybrid Seagull and Whale Optimization Algorithmbased Dynamic Clustering Protocol(HSWOA-DCP)is proposed with the exploitation benefits of WOA and exploration merits of SEOA to optimal CH selection for maintaining energy stability with prolonged network lifetime. This HSWOA-DCP adopted the modified version of SEagull Optimization Algorithm(SEOA) to handle the problem of premature convergence and computational accuracy which is maximally possible during CH selection. The inclusion of SEOA into WOA improved the global searching capability during the selection of CH and prevents worst fitness nodes from being selected as CH, since the spiral attacking behavior of SEOA is similar to the bubble-net characteristics of WOA. This CH selection integrates the spiral attacking principles of SEOA and contraction surrounding mechanism of WOA for improving computation accuracy to prevent frequent election process. It also included the strategy of levy flight strategy into SEOA for potentially avoiding premature convergence to attain better trade-off between the rate of exploration and exploitation in a more effective manner. The simulation results of the proposed HSWOADCP confirmed better network survivability rate, network residual energy and network overall throughput on par with the competitive CH selection schemes under different number of data transmission rounds.The statistical analysis of the proposed HSWOA-DCP scheme also confirmed its energy stability with respect to ANOVA test. 展开更多

Electromagnetic wave-absorbing materials play a crucial role in modern electronics,particularly in stealth and communication technologies.Carbon-based materials demonstrate considerable potential for the development and use of effective wave-absorbing substances,attributed to their complex structure,lightweight nature,excellent corrosion resistance,and affordability.Notably,nitrogen-doped carbon-based two-dimensional(2D)materials exhibit a more pronounced depletion effect on electromagnetic waves owing to their increased specific surface area and numerous polarization states.This article presents the successful synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon(NC)2D flakes using a hydrothermal method.In addition,single Fe atoms were successfully incorporated onto their surfaces,forming Fe@NC.The wave-absorbing capabilities of the Fe@NC samples were considerably improved,achieving a minimum reflection loss(RLmin)of−69.22 dB at 11.48 GHz and an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.79 GHz.The enhancement in electromagnetic wave absorption is attributed to the synergistic effects of magnetic loss,relaxation processes,dipole polarization,and electrical conduction loss.The successful synthesis of Fe@NC opens up new avenues for the development of atomically dispersed wave-absorbing materials. 展开更多

Orbital Angular Momentum(OAM)waves are characterized by helical wave fronts and orthogonality between different modes.Therefore,OAM waves have huge potential in improving wireless communications'channel capacity and radar imaging's resolution.Consequently,the generation and application of OAM waves have attracted a lot of attention.And many methods are proposed to generate OAM waves.Although antenna array is the most popular method of generating OAM waves,OAM waves generated by antenna array have redundant modes.However,all advantages of OAM waves are closely related to infinite OAM modes.Thus,to better apply OAM waves to wireless communications and radar,it is very important to reduce unnecessary OAM modes and improve the OAM mode purity.In order to improve the OAM mode purity,two combined antenna arrays composed of X direction antenna and Y direction antenna array are proposed in this paper.The X direction antenna array and the Y direction antenna array are supplied by the excitations with the same amplitude and fixed phase shift.The overall phase shift of the X direction antenna array isπ/2 more or less than that of the Y direction antenna array.The results of formulas and antenna models in CST show that the combined antenna arrays can generate OAM waves with less redundant modes in x component,y component and z component.Besides,the z component carries pure OAM modes. 展开更多

With the rapid development of information and communication technology,a key objective in the field of optoelectronic integrated devices is to reduce the nano-laser size and energy consumption.Photonics nanolasers are unable to exceed the diffraction limit and typically exhibit low modulation rates of several GHz.In contrast,plasmonic nanolaser utilizes highly confined surface plasmon polariton(SPP)mode that can exceed diffraction limit and their strong Purcell effect can accelerate the modulation rates to several THz.Herein,we propose a parametrically tunable artificial plasmonic nanolasers based on metal–insulator–semiconductor–insulator–metal(MISIM)structure,which demonstrates its ability to compress the mode field volume toλ/14.As the pump power increases,the proposed artificial plasmonic nanolaser exhibits 20-nm-wide output spectrum.Additionally,we investigate the effects of various cavity parameters on the nanolaser’s output threshold,offering potentials for realizing low-threshold artificial plasmonic nanolasers.Moreover,we observe a blue shift in the center wavelength of the nanolaser output with thinner gain layer thickness,predominantly attributed to the increased exciton–photon coupling strength.Our work brings inspiration to several areas,including spaser-based interconnects,nano-LEDs,spontaneous emission control,miniaturization of photon condensates,eigenmode engineering of plasmonic nanolasers,and optimal design driven by artificial intelligence(AI). 展开更多

Optical solitons in mode-locked fiber lasers and optical communication links have various applications. Thestudy of transmission modes of optical solitons necessitates the investigation of the relationship between theequation parameters and soliton evolution employing deep learning techniques. However, the existing identificationmodels exhibit a limited parameter domain search range and are significantly influenced by initialization.Consequently, they often result in divergence toward incorrect parameter values. This study harnessed reinforcementlearning to revamp the iterative process of the parameter identification model. By developing a two-stageoptimization strategy, the model could conduct an accurate parameter search across arbitrary domains. Theinvestigation involved several experiments on various standard and higher-order equations, illustrating that theinnovative model overcame the impact of initialization on the parameter search, and the identified parametersare guided toward their correct values. The enhanced model markedly improves the experimental efficiency andholds significant promise for advancing the research of soliton propagation dynamics and addressing intricatescenarios. 展开更多

Dynamic adsorption processes of reaction intermediates for alkaline hydrogen evolution(HER)catalysts are still confusing to understand.Here,we report a series of A-site ordered quadruple perovskite ruthenium-based electrocatalysts ACu_(3)Ru_(4)O_(12)(A=Na,Ca,Nd,and La),with the target sample SrCu_(3)Ru_(4)O_(12)exhibiting a very low overpotential(46 mV@10 mA·cm^(-2))and excellent catalytic stability with little decays after 48-h durability test.Precise tuning A-site cations can change the average valence state of Cu and Ru,thus the plot of HER activity versus the average Ru valence number shows a volcano-type relationship.Density functional theory indicates that the Ru 4d orbitals of SrCu3Ru4O12possesses the most suitable d-band center position among the five samples,which might be the key parameter to determine the catalytic performance.Our work provides further insight into the discovering advanced,efficient hydrogen evolution catalysts through designing precise descriptor. 展开更多

To protect vehicular privacy and speed up the execution of tasks,federated learning is introduced in the Internet of Vehicles(IoV)where users execute model training locally and upload local models to the base station without massive raw data exchange.However,heterogeneous computing and communication resources of vehicles cause straggler effect which weakens the reliability of federated learning.Dropping out vehicles with limited resources confines the training data.As a result,the accuracy and applicability of federated learning models will be reduced.To mitigate the straggler effect and improve performance of federated learning,we propose a reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIS)-assisted federated learning framework to enhance the communication reliability for parameter transmission in the IoV.Furthermore,we optimize the phase shift of RIS to achieve a more reliable communication environment.In addition,we define vehicular competence to measure both vehicular trustworthiness and resources.Based on the vehicular competence,the straggler effect is mitigated where training tasks of computing stragglers are offloaded to surrounding vehicles with high competence.The experiment results verify that our proposed framework can improve the reliability of federated learning in terms of computing and communication in the IoV. 展开更多

In this paper,Index Modulation(IM)aided Generalized Space-Time Block Coding(GSTBC)is proposed,which intrinsically exploits the benefits of IM concept,diversity gain and spatial multiplexing gain.Specifically,the information bits are partitioned into U groups,with each being modulated by IM symbols(i.e.Spatial Modulation(SM),Quadrature SM(QSM),etc).Next,the structure of GSTBC is invoked for each K IM symbol,and a total ofμ=U/K GSTBC codes are transmitted via T time slots.A Block Expectation Propagation(B-EP)detector is designed for the proposed IM-GSTBC structure.Moreover,the theoretical Average Bit Error Probability(ABEP)is derived for our IM-GSTBC system,which is confirmed by the simulation results and helpful for performance evaluation.Simulation results show that our proposed IM-GSTBC system is capable of striking an efficient trade-off between spatial multiplexing gain,spatial diversity gain as well as implementation cost imposed for both small-scale and large-scale MIMO antenna configurations. 展开更多

To improve the bit error rate(BER)performance of multi-user signal detection in satelliteterrestrial downlink non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)systems,an iterative signal detection algorithm based on soft interference cancellation with optimal power allocation is proposed.Given that power allocation has a significant impact on BER performance,the optimal power allocation is obtained by minimizing the average BER of NOMA users.According to the allocated powers,successive interference cancellation(SIC)between NOMA users is performed in descending power order.For each user,an iterative soft interference cancellation is performed,and soft symbol probabilities are calculated for soft decision.To improve detection accuracy and without increasing the complexity,the aforementioned algorithm is optimized by adding minimum mean square error(MMSE)signal estimation before detection,and in each iteration soft symbol probabilities are utilized for soft-decision of the current user and also for the update of soft interference of the previous user.Simulation results illustrate that the optimized algorithm i.e.MMSE-IDBSIC significantly outperforms joint multi-user detection and SIC detection by 7.57dB and 8.03dB in terms of BER performance. 展开更多

The joint optim... A novel framework of which combines smart antennas multiple antenna systems, (SA) with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) at the receiver, is proposed. The uplink SA-MIMO system is investigated. The joint optimization problem corresponding to the uplink capacity of the single-user SA-MIMO system is deduced. Then the closedform expression of the capacity is obtained in the case of equal power allocation and the same direction-of-arrivals (DOAs) from different transmit antennas at the same antenna array, and an upper bound of the capacity is also given in the case of different DOAs at the same antenna array. Wireless communications in extreme environments,such as underwater and underground,is an essential technology for interconnecting various devices and enables data transmission and networking.Existing wireless technologies using electromagnetic(EM)waves face many known problems,such as high path loss,unpredictable multi-path fading,and large antenna size in the lossy medium.In this article,the magnetic induction(MI)based physical layer communication is introduced as a promising solution for wireless transmissions in extreme environments.Specifically,the fundamentals of the MI-based communications are reviewed.Then,with the goal of establishing reliable and low-power links between small-size devices,we review several key physical layer technologies for MI-based communications,including the MIbased signal modulations,magnetic beamforming,and relay transmissions,and summarize their state-of-theart research advances.Finally,the related open issues and challenges in each area are analyzed and presented for future investigations. 展开更多

There is an increasing demand on wireless communications in subway tunnels to provide video surveillance and sensory data for security,maintenance and train control,and to offer various communication or entertainment services(e.g.,Internet,etc.) to passengers as well.The wireless channel in tunnels is quite unique due to the confined space and the waveguide effects.Therefore,modeling the radio channel characteristics in tunnels is critically important for communication systems design or optimization.This paper investigates the key radio channel characteristics of a subway tunnel at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz,such as the path loss,root mean square(RMS) delay spread,channel stationarity,Doppler shift,and channel capacity.The field measurements show that channel characteristics in tunnels are highly location-dependent and there exist abundant components in Doppler shift domain.In the straight section of the subway tunnel,the measured path loss exponents are close to1.6,lower than that in free space. 展开更多

In this paper, we present a new rational algebraic approach to uniformly construct a series of exact analytical solutions for nonlinear partial differential equations. Compared with most existing tanh methods and other sophisticated methods, the proposed method not only recovers some known solutions, but also finds some new and general solutions. The solutions obtained in this paper include rational form triangular periodic wave solutions, solitary wave solutions, and elliptic doubly periodic wave solutions. The efficiency of the method can be demonstrated on (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long-wave equation. 展开更多
