(1973) was applied to the atmosphere over the Tibetan Plateau, and used to estimate the vertical mass flux, entrainment and detrainment, excess t...The diagnostic model of the cumulus convection proposed by Yanai et al. (1973) was applied to the atmosphere over the Tibetan Plateau, and used to estimate the vertical mass flux, entrainment and detrainment, excess temperature and moisture, liquid water content, and condensation and precipitation rates of highland cloud clusters. The results illustrated that in clouds over the Tibetan Plateau, the water vapor condensation rate, liquid water content, and efficiency of the rain generation process are less than those in the tropics (represented by the Marshall Islands region). Therefore, the condensational latent heat released over the Tibetan Plateau, overall, is much smaller than that in the tropics. The water vapor and liquid water detrainment from shallow nonprecipitating cumulus clouds, and their entrainment into deep cumulus clouds, serve as a growing mechanism for the deep precipitating cumulus towers over the Tibetan Plateau. It should be noted that there is a stronger detrainment of liquid water from cumulus clouds and a stronger re-evaporation rate in environment. The process of the condensation-detrainment-re-evaporation-cnlrainmcnt is repeatedly in progress. It would play an important role in maintaining of cumulus convection on the condition that the supply of moisture is not plentiful over the Tibetan Plateau.The analyses also showed that the cloud mass flux Mc over the Tibetan Plateau is less, and the large-scale average upward motion is much less than those over the Marshall Islands. Stronger compensating downward motion in the cloud environment over the Tibetan Plateau, responsible for the area's strong environmental heating rate Was revealed, and would link to the stability of the South Asian High in summer.展开更多

It is found that the stability of nonlinear wave motion depends not only on its streamfield distri- bution, but also on its phase speed for the propagating nonlinear wave motion. Moreover, the stability criterion of trav- elling modon is also obtained, and it is shown that the travelling modon is stable if the scale of disturbance superimposed on the travelling modon remains to be less than that of the travelling modon.展开更多
In correspondence with the establishment of the“upper high and lower high”pressure pattern due to the activities of 500 hPa high over the Tibetan Plateau in summer,a series of changes of the East Asia atmospheric ci...In correspondence with the establishment of the“upper high and lower high”pressure pattern due to the activities of 500 hPa high over the Tibetan Plateau in summer,a series of changes of the East Asia atmospheric circulation will take place.In this paper,the distributions of divergence and vertical velocity of 500 hPa high,the evolutions of atmos- pheric heat source,the variations of vorticity and zonal wind at 100 hPa level and vertical meridional cell over the Tibetan Plateau etc.are statistically analyzed.Thus,we can see that the ascending motion and the convective heating over the Tibetan Plateau,the South Asia high and the westerly jet on the north of the Plateau at 100 hPa level are weak- ened.The northern branch and the southern branch of the easterly jet on the south of the Plateau merge into a single whole and situate on the south of the former northern branch.In the meantime,thermodynamic land-sea discrepancy in South Asia and the convective heating over the Bay of Bengal is enhanced.It will play an important role in the mainte- nance of the easterly jet and the South Asia monsoon.展开更多

The nonlinear Schrdinger equation satisfied by nonlear barotropic Rossby waves for the weak shear zonal flow was obtained by using the WKB method. It was pointed out that when the Rossby wavenumbers sarisfied the relation: k/3<m^2<4k^2 (where k and m are the zonal and meridional wavenumbers respectively), the periodic Rossby wave in the atmosphere might produce the modulational instability and form the envelope Rossby solitary wave. Furthermore, the stream function field of the envelope Rossby solitary wave was calculated, and the structure derived here was similar to the dipole blocking in the atmosphere. On the other hand, we also pointed out that the dipole blocking might be caused through the Rossby wave modulational instability, moreover, the dipole blocking could persist for 25 days and disappear through energy dispersion of Rossby waves.展开更多

From the hydrodynamic equation set in Boussinesq...The variation of the spectral structure of the internal inertio-gravity waves (ⅡGWs) propagating in the atmospheric wind shear environments is discussed in this paper. From the hydrodynamic equation set in Boussinesq approximation, a spectral propagation equation ⅡGWs satisfy is derived, then the spectral correspondence in the upper atmosphere is numerically calculated, after a forced spectrum is given as a Van- Zandt one at the lower boundary. The results show that if ⅡGWs do not encounter the critical-layer absorp- tion, then their spectral structure may be not changed significantly; otherwise it may be changed greatly, and a few of spectral components are filtered. Also the isotropy of the assumed VanZandt spectrum is distorted in upward-propagating process. That is the directional filtering effect of the atmospheric wind on the gravity wave spectrum.展开更多

The structure of JNFA-groups (JNFN<sub>c</sub>-groups with c=1) hasbeen described in Ref. [1].
