The coupled particles are subject to stochastic fluctuations. It is found that when the equilibrium distance of the coupled particles is between the two slopes of the potential, the transport direction of the coupled particles will be reversed with a certain harmonic coupling strength. This current reversal can be easily understood with the near rigid approximation, where the two coupled particles can be regarded as a single particle in an effective potential. Compared with the original saw-tooth potential, the asymmetry of the effective potential could be reversed when the equilibrium distance is between the two slopes of the original potential, which results in the current reversal.展开更多

Micro-milling is one of the most flexible and fast of them. Although it is based on the same principles as macro-cutting, it is not a simple scaling-down of it. This down-sizing involves new phenomena in the chip formation, such as the minimum chip thickness below which no chip is formed. This paper presents a review of the current state of the art in this field from an experimental and a numerical point of view. A 2D finite element model is then developed to study the influence of the depth of cut on the chip formation. After the model validation in macro-cutting, it highlights the phenomena reported in literature and allows to perform a minimum chip thickness estimation.展开更多

The key strategy is to increase the number of index-2 equilibrium points by introducing two unit saw-tooth functions to extend and modify the Colpitts oscillator model. By using bifurcation diagram and phase portrait, the dynamical characteristics of the multi-scroll hyperchaotic system are briefly studied. Moreover, micro-controller based circuit realization is introduced and the experimental results dem-onstrate that 7×5-scroll chaotic and hyperchaotic attractors can be obtained in the digital circuit.展开更多

In this work, the effects of three patterns namely saw-tooth, semicircular and slots with same wavelength and amplitude were examined. The experiments were carried out for Reynolds number based on wavelength of patterns ranging from 1540 to 3850. For all cases, after each valley, an oval shape region was formed containing a counter- rotating vortex pair. It is also shown that for the flat plate with slots, another vortex was visualized between each valley.展开更多

However, due to its poor machinability, GH416g is hard to be cut and generates saw-tooth chips during high speed machining, which could significantly affect the dynamic cutting force, cutting temperature fluctuation, tool life, and the surface integrity of the parts. In this paper, the saw-tooth chip formation mechanism of superalloy GH4169 was investigated by the elasto-viscoplastic finite element method (FEM). Using the finite element software of ABAQUS/Explicit, the deformation of the part during high speed machining was simulated. The effective plastic strain, the temperature field, the stress distribution, and the cutting force were analyzed to determine the influence of the cutting parameters on the saw-tooth chip formation. The study on broaching performance has great effect on selecting suitable machining parameters and improving tool life.展开更多
