In seismology and earthquake engineering,it is fundamental to identify and characterize the pulse-like features in pulse-type ground motions.To capture the pulses that dominate structural responses,this study establishes congruence and shift relationships between response spectrum surfaces.A similarity search between spectrum surfaces,supplemented with a similarity search in time series,has been applied to characterize the pulse-like features in pulse-type ground motions.The identified pulses are tested in predicting the rocking consequences of slender rectangular blocks under the original ground motions.Generally,the prediction is promising for the majority of the ground motions where the dominant pulse is correctly identified. 展开更多

Spatiotemporal shaping of ultrashort pulses is pivotal for various technologies,such as burst laser ablation and ultrafast imaging.However,the difficulty of pulse stretching to subnanosecond intervals and independent control of the spatial profile for each pulse limit their advancement.We present a pulse manipulation technique for producing spectrally separated GHz burst pulses from a single ultrashort pulse,where each pulse is spatially shapable.We demonstrated the production of pulse trains at intervals of 0.1 to 3 ns in the 800-and 400-nm wavelength bands and applied them to ultrafast single-shot transmission spectroscopic imaging(4 Gfps)of laser ablation dynamics with two-color sequentially timed all-optical mapping photography.Furthermore,we demonstrated the production of pulse trains containing a shifted or dual-peak pulse as examples of individual spatial shaping of GHz burst pulses.Our proposed technique brings unprecedented spatiotemporal manipulation of GHz burst pulses,which can be useful for a wide range of laser applications. 展开更多

Ultrashort and powerful laser interactions with a target generate intense wideband electromagnetic pulses(EMPs).In this study,we report EMPs generated by the interactions between petawatt(30 fs,1.4×10^(20) W/cm^(2))femtosecond(fs)lasers with metal flat,plastic flat,and plastic nanowire-array(NWA)targets.Detailed analyses are conducted on the EMPs in terms of their spatial distribution,time and frequency domains,radiation energy,and protection.The results indicate that EMPs from metal targets exhibit larger amplitudes at varying angles than those generated by other types of targets and are enhanced significantly for NWA targets.Using a plastic target holder and increasing the laser focal spot can significantly decrease the radiation energy of the EMPs.Moreover,the composite shielding materials indicate an effective shielding effect against EMPs.The simulation results show that the NWA targets exert a collimating effect on thermal electrons,which directly affects the distribution of EMPs.This study provides guidance for regulating EMPs by controlling the laser focal spot,target parameters,and target rod material and is beneficial for electromagnetic-shielding design. 展开更多

Nyquist pulses have wide applications in many areas,from electronics to optics.Mode-locked lasers are ideal platforms to generate such pulses.However,how to generate high-quality Nyquist pulses in mode-locked lasers remains elusive.We address this problem by managing different physical effects in mode-locked fiber lasers through extensive numerical simulations.We find that net dispersion,linear loss,gain and filter shaping can affect the quality of Nyquist pulses significantly.We also demonstrate that Nyquist pulses experience similariton shaping due to the nonlinear attractor effect in the gain medium.Our work may contribute to the design of Nyquist pulse sources and enrich the understanding of pulse shaping dynamics in mode-locked lasers. 展开更多

A high-power laser ablating solid targets induces giant electromagnetic pulses(EMPs),which are intimately pertinent to laser parameters,such as energy and pulse width.In this study,we reveal the features of EMPs generated from a picosecond(ps)laser irradiating solid targets at the SG-Ⅱpicosecond petawatt(PSPW)laser facility.The laser energy and pulse,as well as target material and thickness,show determinative effects on the EMPs’amplitude.More intense EMPs are detected behind targets compared to those at the other three positions,and the EMP amplitude decreases from 90.09 kV/m to 17.8 kV/m with the gold target thickness increasing from 10μm to 20μm,which is suppressed when the laser pulse width is enlarged.The results are expected to provide more insight into EMPs produced by ps lasers coupling with targets and lay the foundation for an effective EMP shielding design in high-power laser infrastructures. 展开更多

Giant electromagnetic pulses(EMPs) induced by high-power laser irradiating solid targets interfere with various experimental diagnoses and even damage equipment,so unveiling the evolution of EMPs inside the laser chamber is crucial for designing effective EMP shielding.In this work,the transmission characteristics of EMPs as a function of distances from the target chamber center(TCC) are studied using B-dot probes.The mean EMP amplitude generated by picosecond laser-target interaction reaches 561 kV m^(-1),357 kV m^(-1),395 kV m^(-1),and 341 kV m^(-1)at 0.32 m,0.53 m,0.76 m,and 1 m from TCC,which decreases dramatically from 0.32 m to 0.53 m.However,it shows a fluctuation from 0.53 m to 1 m.The temporal features of EMPs indicate that time-domain EMP signals near the target chamber wall have a wider full width at half maximum compared to that close to TCC,mainly due to the echo oscillation of electromagnetic waves inside the target chamber based on simulation and experimentation.The conclusions of this study will provide a new approach to mitigate strong electromagnetic pulses by decreasing the echo oscillation of electromagnetic waves inside the target chamber during laser coupling with targets. 展开更多

Molecular-frame photoelectron momentum distributions(MF-PMDs) of an H_(2)^(+) molecule ion in the presence of a pair of counter-rotating circularly polarized attosecond extreme ultraviolet laser pulses is studied by numerically solving the two-dimensional time-dependent Schrodinger equation within the frozen-nuclei approximation. At small time delay, our simulations show that the electron vortex structure is sensitive to the time delay and relative phase between the counterrotating pulses when they are partially overlapped. By adjusting time delay and relative phase, we have the ability to manipulate the MF-PMDs and the appearance of spiral arms. We further show that the internuclear distance can affect the spiral vortices due to its different transition cross sections in the parallel and perpendicular geometries. The lowest-order perturbation theory is employed to interpret these phenomena qualitatively. It is concluded that the internuclear distancedependent transition cross sections and the confinement effect in diatomic molecules are responsible for the variation of vortex structures in the MF-PMDs. 展开更多

We investigate the polarization properties of harmonics from the cyclic H_(3)^(2+) molecular ions in tailored bichromatic counter-rotating circularly polarized(BCCP)fields by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation.The allowed harmonics and their helicities are associated with the symmetry compatibility of the field-target systems,and large intensity difference between adjacent harmonics with opposite helicities appears in a wide spectral range when the BCCP field is at certain rotation angles.We try to explain the intensity difference by using a recombination model based on the quantum-orbit theory and by analyzing the ionization pathways.Moreover,to synthesize attosecond pulse trains with tunable polarization,the intensity difference is manipulated by introducing a seed XUV field,and by changing the relative amplitude ratio as well as the helicity of BCCP fields. 展开更多

To overcome the shortcomings of the single-shot autocorrelation SSA where only one pulse width is obtained when the SSA is applied to measure the pulse width of ultrashort laser pulses a modified SSA for measuring the spatiotemporal characteristics of ultrashort laser pulses at different spatial positions is proposed. The spatiotemporal characteristics of femtosecond laser pulses output from the Ti sapphire regenerative amplifier system are experimentally measured by the proposed method. It was found that the complex spatial characteristics are measured accurately.The pulse widths at different spatial positions are various which obey the Gaussian distribution.The pulse width at the same spatial position becomes narrow with the increase in input average power when femtosecond laser pulses pass through a carbon disulfide CS2 nonlinear medium.The experimental results verify that the proposed method is valid for measuring the spatiotemporal characteristics of ultrashort laser pulses at different spatial positions. 展开更多

Photodetachment of H- irradiated by linearly polarized few-cycle laser field is investigated by time-dependent SchrSdinger equation numerically. The photo-electron left-right asymmetry parameter as a function of carrier-envelop (CE) phase of few-cycle pulses is attained. We confirm the asymmetry of photoelectron distribution in H- photodetachment and find that the maximal asymmetry parameter of H- is equal to that of H atom under the same conditions but the corresponding CE phases are quite different. Thus a CE phase shift appears. Compared to that of H atom and field free electron, the zero asymmetry CE phase shift is sensitively affected by Coulomb field. The Coulomb effect on the asymmetry of H- photodetachment mainly behaves in the CE phase shift of H- instead of the amplitude of asymmetry parameter curve. 展开更多

We explores Hamiltonian reduction in pulse-controlled finite-dimensional quantum systems with near-degenerate eigenstates. A quantum system with a non-degenerate ground state and several near-degenerate excited states is controlled by a short pulse, and the objective is to maximize the collective population on all excited states when we treat all of them as one level. Two cases of the systems are shown to be equivalent to effective two-level systems. When the pulse is weak, simple relations between the original systems and the reduced systems are obtained. When the pulse is strong, these relations are still available for pulses with only one frequency under the first-order approximation. 展开更多

Results show that an ultrashort pulse can manipulate a coherent rotational wave packet of D2 se- lectively. In the calculation, a first laser pulse was used to create a coherent rotational wave packet from an initial thermal ensemble of D2 at the temperature of 300 K. The second laser pulse was used to manipulate the rotational wave packet selectively around the first quarter and the three quarters revival. The alignment parameter and its Fourier transform amplitude both illustrate that the relative populations of even and odd rotational states in the final rotational wave packet of D2 can be manipulated by precisely selecting the time delay between the first and the second ultrashort pulse. 展开更多

In this paper,we studied the effects of physical factors,such as,acoustic pulses of laser-induced hydrodynamics(ALIH)and extremely-high frequencies(EHF)radiation,on the formation of heterotopic bone marrow organs.A suspension of precipitated bone marrow cells from CBA mice were exposed to ALIH pulses and EHF radiation separately and in their com bination tissue engineering constructs,presenting gelatin sponges 2 by 2 by 2 mm in size containing 10^(7)nucleated bone marrow cells,were exposed to physical factors and were implanted under the renal capsules of syngeneic mice.The newly formed hematopoietic organs were examined in three and five months later after treatment.The five months old transplants were bigger in size than the three months old transplants.The number of hematopoietic cells in the rest of the groups increased during this period by a factor from 3 to 10,the increase being as high as 20-fold in the:ALH+EHF group.Maximal concentration of multipotent stromal cells(MSCs)was in the EHF+ALIH,and minimal concentration was in the ALIH+EHF.The accumulation rate of bone capsule weight was highest for the transplants of EHF+ALIH and ALIH-sponge groups during the first three months.These data showed that the combined impact of the EHF+ALIH on MSCs is the most effective for the formation of bone marrow transplantation. 展开更多

The acquisition of neutron time spectrum data plays a pivotal role in the precise quantification of uranium via prompt fission neutron uranium logging(PFNUL).However,the impact of the detector dead-time effect remains paramount in the accurate acquisition of the neutron time spectrum.Therefore,it is imperative for neutron logging instruments to establish a dead-time correction method that is not only uncomplicated but also practical and caters to various logging sites.This study has formulated an innovative equation for determining dead time and introduced a dead-time correction method for the neutron time spectrum,called the“dual flux method.”Using this approach,a logging instrument captures two neutron time spectra under disparate neutron fluxes.By carefully selecting specific“windows”on the neutron time spectrum,the dead time can be accurately ascertained.To substantiate its efficacy and discern the influencing factors,experiments were conducted utilizing a deuterium-tritium(D-T)neutron source,a Helium-3(3He)detector,and polyethylene shielding to collate and analyze the neutron time spectrum under varying neutron fluxes(at high voltages).The findings underscore that the“height”and“spacing”of the two windows are the most pivotal influencing factors.Notably,the“height”(fd)should surpass 2,and the“spacing”twd should exceed 200μs.The dead time of the 3 He detector determined in the experiment was 7.35μs.After the dead-time correction,the deviation of the decay coefficients from the theoretical values for the neutron time spectrum under varying neutron fluxes decreased from 12.4%to within 5%.Similarly,for the PFNUL instrument,the deviation in the decay coefficients decreased from 22.94 to 0.49%after correcting for the dead-time effect.These results demonstrate the exceptional efficacy of the proposed method in ensuring precise uranium quantification.The dual flux method was experimentally validated as a universal approach applicable to pulsed neutron logging instruments and holds immense significance for uranium exploration. 展开更多

The NEutron Detector Array(NEDA)is designed to be coupled to gamma-ray spectrometers to enhance the sensitivity of the setup by enabling reaction channel selection through counting of the evaporated neutrons.This article presents the implementation of a double trigger condition system for NEDA,which improves the acquisition of neutrons and reduces the number of gamma rays acquired.Two independent triggers are generated in the double trigger condition system:one based on charge comparison(CC)and the other on time-of-flight(TOF).These triggers can be combined using OR and AND logic,offering four distinct trigger modes.The developed firmware is added to the previous one in the Virtex 6 field programmable gate array(FPGA)present in the system,which also includes signal processing,baseline correction,and various trigger logic blocks.The performance of the trigger system is evaluated using data from the E703 experiment performed at GANIL.The four trigger modes are applied to the same data,and a subsequent offline analysis is performed.It is shown that most of the detected neutrons are preserved with the AND mode,and the total number of gamma rays is significantly reduced.Compared with the CC trigger mode,the OR trigger mode allows increasing the selection of neutrons.In addition,it is demonstrated that if the OR mode is selected,the online CC trigger threshold can be raised without losing neutrons. 展开更多

The kinetic characteristics of plasma-assisted oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia are studied by using the global/fluid models hybrid solution method.Firstly,the stable products of plasma-assisted oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia are measured.The results show that the consumption of NH_(3)/O_(2)and the production of N_(2)/H_(2)change linearly with the increase of voltage,which indicates the decoupling of nonequilibrium molecular excitation and oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia at low temperatures.Secondly,the detailed reaction kinetics mechanism of ammonia oxidative pyrolysis stimulated by a nanosecond pulse voltage at low pressure and room temperature is established.Based on the reaction path analysis,the simplified mechanism is obtained.The detailed and simplified mechanism simulation results are compared with experimental data to verify the accuracy of the simplified mechanism.Finally,based on the simplified mechanism,the fluid model of ammonia oxidative pyrolysis stimulated by the nanosecond pulse plasma is established to study the pre-sheath/sheath behavior and the resultant consumption and formation of key species.The results show that the generation,development,and propagation of the pre-sheath have a great influence on the formation and consumption of species.The consumption of NH_(3)by the cathode pre-sheath is greater than that by the anode pre-sheath,but the opposite is true for OH and O(1S).However,within the sheath,almost all reactions do not occur.Further,by changing the parameters of nanosecond pulse power supply voltage,it is found that the electron number density,electron current density,and applied peak voltages are not the direct reasons for the structural changes of the sheath and pre-sheath.Furthermore,the discharge interval has little effect on the sheath structure and gas mixture breakdown.The research results of this paper not only help to understand the kinetic promotion of non-equilibrium excitation in the process of oxidative pyrolysis but also help to explore the influence of transport and chemical reaction kinetics on the oxidative pyrolysis of ammonia. 展开更多

This work aimed to(i)understand conventional and pulse gas tungsten arc welding(GTAW)of AZ31B,and(ii)explore high frequency welding(100 Hz-1500 Hz).GTA welding with alternating current(AC)and direct current electrode positive(DCEP)polarities yielded crack-free partial penetration welds for6 mm thick AZ31B alloy sheet.Welding under direct current electrode negative(DCEN)polarity with identical parameters as that for AC and DCEP resulted in full penetration welds that had microcracks.Defect-free full-penetration welds could be accomplished with pulse GTA welding using DCEN polarity at a pulse frequency of 1 Hz with a pulse duration ratio of 1:1.The resultant DCEN P 1:1 weld metal had a microstructure finer than the conventional DCEN weld.Welds produced with pulse duration ratios of 1:2and 1:4 lacked penetration but had a much finer microstructures because of the lower heat input.The arc constriction by the high frequency pulsing in the Activ Arc■-High frequency(AA-HF)mode welding was responsible for deeper penetration.Welds produced under DCEN pulsing and AA-HF conditions had hardness higher than conventional DCEN,DCEP and AC GTA welds,attributed to the finer microstructure.AA-HF GTA welding produced defect free deeper penetration welds with good microstructural features/mechanical properties and also gave an advantage of 50%enhanced productivity when welded at1500 Hz. 展开更多

Effects of Repair Grouting and Jacketing on Corrosion Concrete Using Ultrasonic Method

Concrete is one of the most important elements in building construction.However,concrete used in construction is susceptible to damage due to corrosion.The influence of corrosive substances causes changes in the reinforcing steel and affects the strength of the structure.The repair method is one approach to overcome this problem.This research aims to determine the effect of grouting and jacketing repairs on corroded concrete.The concrete used has dimensions of 15 cm×15 cm×60 cm with planned corrosion variations of 50%,60%,and 70%.The test objects were tested using the Non-Destructive Testing(NDT)method using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity(UPV).The test results show that the average speed of normal concrete is 5070 m/s,while the lowest average speed is 3070 m/s on the 70%planned corrosion test object.The test object was then given a load of 1600 kgf.At this stage,there is a decrease in speed and wave shape with the lowest average speed obtained at 2753 m/s.The repair method is an effort to restore concrete performance by using grouting and jacketing.Grouting is done by injecting mortar material into it.Jacketing involves adding thickness to the existing concrete layer with additional layers of concrete.After improvements were made,there was an improvement in the UPV test,with a peak speed value of 4910 m/s.Repairing concrete by filling cracks can improve concrete continuity and reduce waveform distortion,thereby increasing wave propagation speed. 展开更多

Beyond Body Shape: Exploring the Complex Link between ABSI and Arterial Stiffness in a Chinese Population

Background: Obesity, particularly abdominal obesity, is a well-established risk factor for arterial stiffness (AS) and cardiovascular diseases. A Body Shape Index (ABSI) is a novel anthropometric measure designed to assess abdominal obesity, yet its association with AS remains inconclusive. This study aims to investigate the relationship between ABSI and AS indicators in a general population. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 721 participants from the general population of Dali, Yunnan Province, China. ABSI was calculated using a standardized formula. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to examine the associations between ABSI and AS indicators, including brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (ba-PWV) and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV). Results: Higher ABSI tertiles were significantly associated with increased ba-PWV and cf-PWV compared to the lowest tertile (P ≤ 0.007). However, after adjusting for potential confounders, these associations became non-significant (P ≥ 0.058), suggesting that ABSI is not an independent predictor of AS. Conclusions: The initial association between ABSI and AS was attenuated after covariate adjustment, suggesting ABSI is not an independent AS marker. Further research is warranted to understand the complex interactions between ABSI and other cardiovascular risk factors and its potential role in AS risk assessment. 展开更多
