This paper investigates the adaptive fuzzy finite-time output-feedback fault-tolerant control (FTC) problemfor a class of nonlinear underactuated wheeled mobile robots (UWMRs) system with intermittent actuatorfaults. The UWMR system includes unknown nonlinear dynamics and immeasurable states. Fuzzy logic systems(FLSs) are utilized to work out immeasurable functions. Furthermore, with the support of the backsteppingcontrol technique and adaptive fuzzy state observer, a fuzzy adaptive finite-time output-feedback FTC scheme isdeveloped under the intermittent actuator faults. It is testifying the scheme can ensure the controlled nonlinearUWMRs is stable and the estimation errors are convergent. Finally, the comparison results and simulationvalidate the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy adaptive finite-time FTC approach. 展开更多

In order to improve a mobile robot's autonomy in unknown environments, a novel intelligent controller is designed. The proposed controller is based on fuzzy logic with the aim of assisting a multi-sensor equipped mobile robot to safely navigate in an indoor environment. First, the designs of two behaviors for a robot's autonomous navigation are described, including path tracking and obstacle avoidance, which emulate human driving behaviors and reduce the complexity of the robot's navigation problems in unknown environments. Secondly, the two behaviors are combined by using a finite state machine (FSM), which ensures that the robot can safely track a predefined path in an unknown indoor environment. The inputs to this controller are the readings from the sensors. The corresponding output is the desired direction of the robot. Finally, both the simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

A kinematics and fuzzy logic combined formation controller was proposed for leader-follower based formation control using backstepping method in order to accommodate the dynamics of the robot. The kinematics controller generates desired linear and angular velocities for follower robots, which make the configuration of follower robots coverage to the desired. The fuzzy logic controller takes dynamics of the leader and followers into consideration, which is built upon Mamdani fuzzy model. The force and torque acting on robots are described as linguistic variables and also 25 if-then rules are designed. In addition, the fuzzy logic controller adopts the Centroid of Area method as defuzzification strategy and makes robots’actual velocities converge to the expected which is generated by the kinematics controller. The innovation of the kinematics and fuzzy logic combined formation controller presented in the paper is that the perfect velocity tracking assumption is removed and realtime performance of the system is improved.Compared with traditional torque-computed controller, the velocity error convergence time in case of the proposed method is shorter than traditional torque-computed controller. The simulation results validate that the proposed controller can drive robot members to form the desired formation and formation tracking errors which can coverage to a neighborhood of the origin.Additionally, the simulations also show that the proposed method has better velocity convergence performance than traditional torque-computed method. 展开更多

This work presents a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) assigned to control a robotic arm motion while avoiding the obstacles that may face the robotic arm in its movement from the initial point to the final point in an optimized manner, in addition to avoid the singularity phenomenon, and without any exceeding of the physical constraints of the robot arm. A real platform (5 DOF "Degree Of Freedom" Lab Volt 5150 Robotic Arm) is used to carry this work practically, in addition to providing it by a vision sensor, where a new approach is proposed to inspect the robot work environment using a designed integrated MATLAB program having the ability to recognize the changeable locations of each of the robotic arm's end-effector, the goal, and the multi existed obstacles through a recorded film taken by a webcam, then these information will be treated using the FLC where its outputs represent the values that must be delivered to the robot to adopt them in its next steps till reaching to the goal in collision-free movements. The experimental results showed that the developed robotic ann travels successfully from Start to Goal where a high percentage of accuracy in arriving to Goal was achieved, and without colliding with any obstacle ensuring the harmonization between the theoretical part and the experimental part in achieving the best results of controlling the robotic arm's motion. 展开更多

Four-wheeled,individual-driven,nonholonomic structured mobile robots are widely used in industries for automated work, inspection and explora-tion purposes. The trajectory tracking control of the four-wheel individual-driven mobile robot is one of the most blooming research topics due to its nonholonomic structure. The wheel velocities are separately adjusted to follow the trajectory in the old-fashioned kinematic control of skid-steered mobile robots. However, there is no consideration for robot dynamics when using a kinematic controller that solely addresses the robot chassis’s motion. As a result, the mobile robot has lim-ited performance, such as chattering during curved movement. In this research work,a three-tiered adaptive robust control with fuzzy parameter estimation, including dynamic modeling, direct torque control and wheel slip control is pro-posed.Fuzzy logic-based parameter estimation is a valuable tool for adjusting adaptive robust controller(ARC)parameters and tracking the trajectories with less tracking error as well as high tracking accuracy. This research considers the O type and 8 type trajectories for performance analysis of the proposed novel control technique. Our suggested approach outperforms the existing control methods such as Fuzzy, proportional–integral–derivative(PID)and adaptive robust controller with discrete projection(ARC–DP).The experimental results show that the scheduled performance index decreases by 2.77%and 4.76%.All the experimen-tal simulations obviously proved that the proposed ARC-Fuzzy performed well in smooth groud surfaces compared to other approaches. 展开更多

Navigation of autonomous mobile robots in dynamic and unknown environments needs to take into account different kinds of uncertainties. Type-1 fuzzy logic research has been largely used in the control of mobile robots. However, type-1 fuzzy control presents limitations in handling those uncertainties as it uses precise fuzzy sets. Indeed type-1 fuzzy sets cannot deal with linguistic and numerical uncertainties associated with either the mechanical aspect of robots, or with dynamic changing environment or with knowledge used in the phase of conception of a fuzzy system. Recently many researchers have applied type-2 fuzzy logic to improve performance. As control using type-2 fuzzy sets represents a new generation of fuzzy controllers in mobile robotic issue, it is interesting to present the performances that can offer type-2 fuzzy sets by regards to type-1 fuzzy sets. The paper presented deep and new comparisons between the two sides of fuzzy logic and demonstrated the great interest in controlling mobile robot using type-2 fuzzy logic. We deal with the design of new controllers for mobile robots using type-2 fuzzy logic in the navigation process in unknown and dynamic environments. The dynamicity of the environment is depicted by the presence of other dynamic robots. The performances of the proposed controllers are represented by both simulations and experimental results, and discussed over graphical paths and numerical analysis. 展开更多

Object tracking is one of the major tasks for mobile robots in many real-world applications. Also, artificial intelligence and automatic control techniques play an important role in enhancing the performance of mobile robot navigation. In contrast to previous simulation studies, this paper presents a new intelligent mobile robot for accomplishing multi-tasks by tracking red-green-blue(RGB)colored objects in a real experimental field. Moreover,a practical smart controller is developed based on adaptive fuzzy logic and custom proportional-integral-derivative(PID)schemes to achieve accurate tracking results, considering robot command delay and tolerance errors. The design of developed controllers implies some motion rules to mimic the knowledge of experienced operators.Twelve scenarios of three colored object combinations have been successfully tested and evaluated by using the developed controlled image-based robot tracker.Classical PID control failed to handle some tracking scenarios in this study. The proposed adaptive fuzzy PID control achieved the best accurate results with the minimum average final error of 13.8 cm to reach the colored targets, while our designed custom PID control is efficient in saving both average time and traveling distance of 6.6 s and 14.3 cm,respectively. These promising results demonstrate the feasibility of applying our developed image-based robotic system in a colored object-tracking environment to reduce human workloads. 展开更多

A new parameter identification method is proposed to solve the slippage problem when tracked mobile robots execute turning motions.Such motion is divided into two states in this paper:pivot turning and coupled turning between angular velocity and linear velocity. In the processing of pivot turning, the slippage parameters could be obtained by measuring the end point in a square path.In the process of coupled turning, the slippage parameters could be calculated by measuring the perimeter of a circular path and the linear distance between the start and end points. The identification results showed that slippage parameters were affected by velocity. Therefore,a fuzzy rule base was established with the basis on the identification data, and a fuzzy controller was applied to motion control and dead reckoning. This method effectively compensated for errors resulting in unequal tension between the left and right tracks, structural dimensions and slippage. The results demonstrated that the accuracy of robot positioning and control could be substantially improved on a rigid floor. 展开更多

In this paper, a fuzzy behavior-based approach for a three wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot(TWOMR) navigation has been proposed. The robot has to track either static or dynamic target while avoiding either static or dynamic obstacles along its path. A simple controller design is adopted, and to do so, two fuzzy behaviors "Track the Target" and "Avoid Obstacles and Wall Following" are considered based on reduced rule bases(six and five rules respectively). This strategy employs a system of five ultrasonic sensors which provide the necessary information about obstacles in the environment. Simulation platform was designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

A point stabilization scheme of a wheeled mobile robot (WMR) which moves on uneven surface is presented by using tuzzy control. Taking the kinematics and dynamics of the vehicle into account, the fuzzy controller is employed to regulate the robot based on a kinematic nonlinear state feedback control law. Herein, the fuzzy strategy is composed of two velocity control laws which are used to adjust the speed and angular velocity, respectively. Subsequently, genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to optimize the controller parameters. Through the self-optimization, a group of optimum parameters is gotten. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the control strategy. 展开更多

In this paper, an adaptive backstepping fuzzy cerebellar-model-articulation-control neural-networks control (ABFCNC) system for motion/force control of the mobile-manipulator robot (MMR) is proposed. By applying the ABFCNC in the tracking-position controller, the unknown dynamics and parameter variation problems of the MMR control system are relaxed. In addition, an adaptive robust compensator is proposed to eliminate uncertainties that consist of approximation errors, uncertain disturbances. Based on the tracking position-ABFCNC design, an adaptive robust control strategy is also developed for the nonholonomicconstraint force of the MMR. The design of adaptive-online learning algorithms is obtained by using the Lyapunov stability theorem. Therefore, the proposed method proves that it not only can guarantee the stability and robustness but also the tracking performances of the MMR control system. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control system are verified by comparative simulation results. 展开更多

This paper focuses on autonomous motion control of a nonholonomic platform with a robotic arm, which is called mobile manipulator. It serves in transportation of loads in imperfectly known industrial environments with unknown dynamic obstacles. A union of both procedures is used to solve the general problems of collision-free motion. The problem of collision-free motion for mobile manipulators has been approached from two directions, Planning and Reactive Control. The dynamic path planning can be used to solve the problem of locomotion of mobile platform, and reactive approaches can be employed to solve the motion planning of the arm. The execution can generate the commands for the servo-systems of the robot so as to follow a given nominal trajectory while reacting in real-time to unexpected events. The execution can be designed as an Adaptive Fuzzy Neural Controller. In real world systems, sensor-based motion control becomes essential to deal with model uncertainties and unexpected obstacles. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel vision-based obstacle avoidance approach for the Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) with a Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera as its only sensing modality. The approach combines the morphological closing operation based on Sobel Edge Detection Operation and the (μ-kσ) thresholding technique to detect obstacles to soften the various lighting and ground floor effects. Both the morphology method and thresholding technique are computationally simple. The processing speed of the algorithm is fast enough to avoid some active obstacles. In addition, this approach takes into account the history obstacle effects on the current state. Fuzzy logic is used to control the behaviors of AMR as it navigates in the environment. All behaviors run concurrently and generate motor response solely based on vision perception. A priority based on subsumption coordinator selects the most appropriate response to direct the AMR away from obstacles. Validation of the proposed approach is done on a Pioneer 1 mobile robot. 展开更多
