Precisely estimating the state of health(SOH)of lithium-ion batteries is essential for battery management systems(BMS),as it plays a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of battery systems. However, current SOH estimation methods often overlook the valuable temperature information that can effectively characterize battery aging during capacity degradation.Additionally, the Elman neural network, which is commonly employed for SOH estimation, exhibits several drawbacks, including slow training speed,a tendency to become trapped in local minima, and the initialization of weights and thresholds using pseudo-random numbers, leading to unstable model performance. To address these issues, this study addresses the challenge of precise and effective SOH detection by proposing a method for estimating the SOH of lithium-ion batteries based on differential thermal voltammetry(DTV)and an SSA-Elman neural network.Firstly, two health features(HFs)considering temperature factors and battery voltage are extracted fromthe differential thermal voltammetry curves and incremental capacity curves.Next, the Sparrow Search Algorithm(SSA)is employed to optimize the initial weights and thresholds of the Elman neural network, forming the SSA-Elman neural network model. To validate the performance, various neural networks, including the proposed SSA-Elman network, are tested using the Oxford battery aging dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that the method developed in this study achieves superior accuracy and robustness, with a mean absolute error(MAE)of less than 0.9%and a rootmean square error(RMSE)below 1.4%. 展开更多

Poor Li plating reversibility and high thermal runaway risks are key challenges for fast charging lithiumion batteries with graphite anodes.Herein,a dielectric and fire-resistant separator based on hybrid nanofibers of barium sulfate(BS)and bacterial cellulose(BC)is developed to synchronously enhance the battery's fast charging and thermal-safety performances. The regulation mechanism of the dielectric BS/BC separator in enhancing the Li^(+)ion transport and Li plating reversibility is revealed.(1)The Max-Wagner polarization electric field of the dielectric BS/BC separator can accelerate the desolvation of solvated Li^(+)ions, enhancing their transport kinetics.(2)Moreover,due to the charge balancing effect, the dielectric BS/BC separator homogenizes the electric field/Li^(+)ion flux at the graphite anode-separator interface, facilitating uniform Li plating and suppressing Li dendrite growth.Consequently, the fast-charge graphite anode with the BS/BC separator shows higher Coulombic efficiency(99.0%vs.96.9%)and longer cycling lifespan(100 cycles vs.59 cycles)than that with the polypropylene(PP)separator in the constantlithiation cycling test at 2 mA cm^(-2).The high-loading LiFePO4(15.5 mg cm^(-2))//graphite(7.5 mg cm^(-2))full cell with the BS/BC separator exhibits excellent fast charging performance, retaining 70%of its capacity after 500 cycles at a high rate of 2C,which is significantly better than that of the cell with the PP separator(retaining only 27%of its capacity after 500 cycles).More importantly, the thermally stable BS/BC separator effectively elevates the critical temperature and reduces the heat release rate during thermal runaway, thereby significantly enhancing the battery's safety. 展开更多

A tunable oxidization and reduction strategy was proposed to directly regenerate spent LiFePO_(4)/C cathode materials by oxidizing excessive carbon powders with the addition of FePO_(4).Experimental results indicate that spent LiFePO_(4)/C cathode materials with good performance can be regenerated by roasting at 650℃ for 11 h with the addition ofLi_(2)CO_(3),FePO_(4),V_(2)O_(5),and glucose.V_(2)O_(5) is added to improve the cycle performance of regenerated cathode materials.Glucose is used to revitalize the carbon layers on the surface of spent LiFePO_(4)/C particles for improving their conductivity. The regenerated V-doped LiFePO_(4)/C shows an excellent electrochemical performance with the discharge specific capacity of 161.36 mA·h/g at 0.2C,under which the capacity retention is 97.85%after 100 cycles. 展开更多

Micrometer-sized silicon oxide(SiO)anodes encounter challenges in large-scale applications due to significant volume expansion during the alloy/de-alloy process.Herein,an innovative deep eutectic electrolyte derived from succinonitrile is introduced to enhance the cycling stability of SiO anodes.Density functional theory calculations validate a robust ion-dipole interaction between lithium ions(Li^(+))and succinonitrile(SN).The cosolvent fluoroethylene carbonate(FEC)optimizes the Li^(+)solvation structure in the SN-based electrolyte with its weakly solvating ability.Molecular dynamics simulations investigate the regulating mechanism of ion-dipole and cation-anion interaction. The unique Li^(+)solvation structure, enriched with FEC and TFSI^(-),facilitates the formation of an inorganic-organic composite solid electrolyte interphase on SiO anodes.Micro-CT further detects the inhibiting effect on the SiO volume expansion. As a result, the SiO|LiCoO_(2) full cells exhibit excellent electrochemical performance in deep eutectic-based electrolytes. This work presents an effective strategy for extending the cycle life of SiO anodes by designing a new SN-based deep eutectic electrolyte. 展开更多

Battery health evaluation and management are vital for the long-term reliability and optimal performance of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles.Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)offers valuable insights into battery degradation analysis and modeling. However, previous studies have not adequately addressed the impedance uncertainties, particularly during battery operating conditions, which can substantially impact the robustness and accuracy of state of health(SOH)estimation.Motivated by this, this paper proposes a comprehensive feature optimization scheme that integrates impedance validity assessment with correlation analysis.By utilizing metrics such as impedance residuals and correlation coefficients, the proposed method effectively filters out invalid and insignificant impedance data, thereby enhancing the reliability of the input features.Subsequently, the extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)modeling framework is constructed for estimating the battery degradation trajectories. The XGBoost model incorporates a diverse range of hyperparameters, optimized by a genetic algorithm to improve its adaptability and generalization performance.Experimental validation confirms the effectiveness of the proposed feature optimization scheme, demonstrating the superior estimation performance of the proposed method in comparison with four baseline techniques. 展开更多

All-safe liquid-state lithium-ion batteries(ASLS-LIBs) is of great interest as they can potentially combine the safety of all-solid-state batteries with the high performance and low manufacturing cost of traditional liquid-state LIBs. However, the practical success of ASLS-LIBs is bottlenecked by the lack of advanced separator technology that can simultaneously realize high performances in puncturing-tolerability,fire-resistance, and importantly, wetting-capability with non-flammable liquid-electrolytes. Here, we propose a concept of inorganic in-situ separator(IISS) by hybrid-sol physical crosslinking directly onto the electrode surface to address the above challenges. Particularly, the hybrid-sol is designed with silica nanoparticles as the building block and poly(vinylidene difluoride) nanoparticles as the crosslinking agent. The critical factors for controlling the IISS microstructures and properties have been systematically investigated. The advantages of the IISS have been confirmed by its fast wetting with various fireresistant liquid-electrolytes, customizable thickness and porous structures, robust interface with planar or three-dimensional(3D)-structured electrodes, and importantly, unexpected self-adaptability against puncturing. Enabled by the above merits, a fire-resistant ASLS-LIB is successfully assembled and demonstrated with stable electrochemical performance. This sol-crosslinked IISS may open an avenue for the studies on the next-generation separator technology, cell assembling, solid electrolyte processing as well as non-flammable secondary batteries. 展开更多

In order to solve the problem of inconsistent energy in the charging and discharging cycles of lithium-ion battery packs,a new multilayer equilibrium topology is designed in this paper. The structure adopts a hierarchical structure design, which includes intra-group equilibrium, primary inter-group equilibrium and secondary inter-group equilibrium. This structure greatly increases the number of equilibrium paths for lithium-ion batteries, thus shortening the time required for equilibrium, and improving the overall efficiency. In terms of control strategy, fuzzy logic control(FLC)is chosen to control the size of the equilibrium current during the equilibrium process. We performed rigorous modeling and simulation of the proposed system by MATLAB and Simulink software.Experiments show that the multilayer equilibrium circuit structure greatly exceeds the traditional single-layer equilibrium circuit in terms of efficacy, specifically, the Li-ion battery equilibrium speed is improved by 12.71%in static equilibrium,14.48%in charge equilibrium, and 11.19%in discharge equilibrium. In addition, compared with the maximum value algorithm, the use of the FLC algorithm reduces the equalization time by about 3.27%and improves the energy transfer efficiency by about 66.49%under the stationary condition, which verifies the feasibility of the equalization scheme. 展开更多

The degradation process of lithium-ion batteries is intricately linked to their entire lifecycle as power sources and energy storage devices, encompassing aspects such as performance delivery and cycling utilization.Consequently, the accurate and expedient estimation or prediction of the aging state of lithium-ion batteries has garnered extensive attention.Nonetheless, prevailing research predominantly concentrates on either aging estimation or prediction, neglecting the dynamic fusion of both facets. This paper proposes a hybrid model for capacity aging estimation and prediction based on deep learning, wherein salient features highly pertinent to aging are extracted from charge and discharge relaxation processes.By amalgamating historical capacity decay data, the model dynamically furnishes estimations of the present capacity and forecasts of future capacity for lithium-ion batteries. Our approach is validated against a novel dataset involving charge and discharge cycles at varying rates.Specifically, under a charging condition of 0.25 C,a mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)of 0.29%is achieved. This outcome underscores the model's adeptness in harnessing relaxation processes commonly encountered in the real world and synergizing with historical capacity records within battery management systems(BMS),thereby affording estimations and prognostications of capacity decline with heightened precision. 展开更多

Lithium-ion capacitors(LICs) combining the advantages of lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors are considered a promising nextgeneration energy storage device. However, the sluggish kinetics of battery-type anode cannot match the capacitor-type cathode, restricting the development of LICs. Herein, hierarchical carbon framework(HCF) anode material composed of 0D carbon nanocage bridged with 2D graphene network are developed via a template-confined synthesis process. The HCF with nanocage structure reduces the Li^(+) transport path and benefits the rapid Li^(+) migration, while 2D graphene network can promote the electron interconnecting of carbon nanocages. In addition, the doped N atoms in HCF facilitate to the adsorption of ions and enhance the pseudo contribution, thus accelerate the kinetics of the anode. The HCF anode delivers high specific capacity, remarkable rate capability. The LIC pouch-cell based on HCF anode and active HCF(a-HCF) cathode can provide a high energy density of 162 Wh kg^(-1) and a superior power density of 15.8 kW kg^(-1), as well as a long cycling life exceeding 15,000cycles. This study demonstrates that the well-defined design of hierarchical carbon framework by incorporating 0D carbon nanocages and 2D graphene network is an effective strategy to promote LIC anode kinetics and hence boost the LIC electrochemical performance. 展开更多

The proper recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)can promote the recovery and utilization of valuable resources, while also negative environmental effects resulting from the presence of toxic and hazardous substances. In this study,a new environmentally friendly hydro-metallurgical process was proposed for leaching lithium(Li),nickel(Ni),cobalt(Co),and manganese(Mn)from spent LIBs using sulfuric acid with citric acid as a reductant. The effects of the concentration of sulfuric acid, the leaching temperature, the leaching time, the solid-liquid ratio, and the reducing agent dosage on the leaching behavior of the above elements were investigated.Key parameters were optimized using response surface methodology(RSM)to maximize the recovery of metals from spent LIBs.The maxim-um recovery efficiencies of Li,Ni,Co,and Mn can reach 99.08%,98.76%,98.33%,and 97.63%.under the optimized conditions(the sulfuric acid concentration was 1.16 mol/L,the citric acid dosage was 15wt%,the solid-liquid ratio was 40 g/L,and the temperature was 83℃ for 120 min),respectively. It was found that in the collaborative leaching process of sulfuric acid and citric acid, the citric acid initially provided strong reducing CO_(2)^(-),and the transition metal ions in the high state underwent a reduction reaction to produce transition metal ions in the low state.Additionally, citric acid can also act as a proton donor and chelate with lower-priced transition metal ions, thus speeding up the dissolution process. 展开更多

Early warning of thermal runaway(TR)of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)is a significant challenge in current application scenarios.Timely and effective TR early warning technology is urgently required considering the current fire safety situation of LIBs.In this work,we report an early warning method of TR with online electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)monitoring, which overcomes the shortcomings of warning methods based on traditional signals such as temperature, gas, and pressure with obvious delay and high cost. With in-situ data acquisition through accelerating rate calorimeter(ARC)-EIS test, the crucial features of TR were extracted using the RReliefF algorithm.TR mechanisms corresponding to the features at specific frequencies were analyzed. Finally,a three-level warning strategy for single battery, series module, and parallel module was formulated, which can successfully send out an early warning signal ahead of the self-heating temperature of battery under thermal abuse condition. The technology can provide a reliable basis for the timely intervention of battery thermal management and fire protection systems and is expected to be applied to electric vehicles and energy storage devices to realize early warning and improve battery safety. 展开更多

Separators play a critical role in the safety and performance of lithium-ion batteries. However, commercial polyolefin separators are limited by their poor affinity with electrolytes and low melting points. In this work,we constructed a reinforced-concrete-like structure by homogeneously dispersing nano-Al_(2)O_(3) and cellulose on the separators to improve their stability and performance. In this reinforcedconcrete-like structure, the cellulose is a reinforcing mesh, and the nano-Al_(2)O_(3) acts as concrete to support the separator. After constructing the reinforced-concrete-like structure, the separators exhibit good stability even at 200℃(thermal shrinkage of 0.3%),enhanced tensile strain(tensile stress of 133.4 MPa and tensile strains of 62%),and better electrolyte wettability(a contact angle of 6.5°).Combining these advantages, the cells with nano-Al_(2)O_(3)@cellulose-coated separators exhibit stable cycling performance and good rate performance. Therefore, the construction of the reinforced-concretelike structure is a promising technology to promote the application of lithium-ion batteries in extreme environments. 展开更多

Al is considered as a promising lithium-ion battery(LIBs)anode materials owing to its high theoretical capacity and appropri-ate lithation/de-lithation potential.Unfortunately, its inevitable volume expansion causes the electrode structure instability, leading to poor cyclic stability. What’s worse, the natural Al2O3 layer on commercial Al pellets is always existed as a robust insulating barrier for elec-trons,which brings the voltage dip and results in low reversible capacity.Herein, this work synthesized core-shell Al@C-Sn pellets for LIBs by a plus-minus strategy. In this proposal, the natural Al2O3 passivation layer is eliminated when annealing the pre-introduced SnCl2,meanwhile,polydopamine-derived carbon is introduced as dual functional shell to liberate the fresh Al core from re-oxidization and alle-viate the volume swellings.Benefiting from the addition of C-Sn shell and the elimination of the Al2O3 passivation layer, the as-prepared Al@C-Sn pellet electrode exhibits little voltage dip and delivers a reversible capacity of 1018.7 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.1 A·g^(-1) and 295.0 mAh·g^(-1) at 2.0 A·g^(-1)(after 1000 cycles),respectively. Moreover, its diffusion-controlled capacity is muchly improved compared to those of its counterparts, confirming the well-designed nanostructure contributes to the rapid Li-ion diffusion and further enhances the lithium storage activity. 展开更多

Silicon/carbon composites, which integrate the high lithium storage performance of silicon with the exceptional mechanical strength and conductivity of carbon, will replace the traditional graphite electrodes for high-energy lithium-ion batteries.Various strategies have been designed to synthesize silicon/carbon composites for tackling the issues of anode pulverization and poor stability in the anodes, thereby improving the lithium storage ability. The effect of the regulation method at each scale on the final negative electrode performance remains unclear. However,it has not been fully clarified how the regulation methods at each scale influence the final anode performance. This review will categorize the materials structure into three scales:molecular scale, nanoscale, and microscale.First, the review will examine modification methods at the molecular scale, focusing on the interfacial bonding force between silicon and carbon.Next,it will summarize various nanostructures and special shapes in the nanoscale to explore the construction of silicon/carbon composites.Lastly, the review will provide an analysis of microscale control approaches, focusing on the formation of composite particle with micron size and the utilization of micro-Si.This review provides a comprehensive overview of the multi-scale design of silicon/carbon composite anode materials and their optimization strategies to enhance the performance of lithium-ion batteries. 展开更多

Thermal runaway(TR)is a critical issue hindering the large-scale application of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Understanding the thermal safety behavior of LIBs at the cell and module level under different state of charges(SOCs)has significant implications for reinforcing the thermal safety design of the lithium-ion battery module. This study first investigates the thermal safety boundary(TSB)correspondence at the cells and modules level under the guidance of a newly proposed concept, safe electric quantity boundary(SEQB).A reasonable thermal runaway propagation(TRP)judgment indicator, peak heat transfer power(PHTP),is proposed to predict whether TRP occurs. Moreover,a validated 3D model is used to quantitatively clarify the TSB at different SOCs from the perspective of PHTP,TR trigger temperature,SOC,and the full cycle life.Besides, three different TRP transfer modes are discovered. The interconversion relationship of three different TRP modes is investigated from the perspective of PHTP.This paper explores the TSB of LIBs under different SOCs at both cell and module levels for the first time, which has great significance in guiding the thermal safety design of battery systems. 展开更多

Typical application scenarios, such as vehicle to grid(V2G)and frequency regulation, have imposed significant long-life demands on lithium-ion batteries.Herein,we propose an advanced battery life-extension method employing bidirectional pulse charging(BPC)strategy.Unlike traditional constant current charging methods,BPC strategy not only achieves comparable charging speeds but also facilitates V2G frequency regulation simultaneously. It significantly enhances battery cycle ampere-hour throughput and demonstrates remarkable life extension capabilities. For this interesting conclusion, adopting model identification and postmortem characterization to reveal the life regulation mechanism of BPC:it mitigates battery capacity loss attributed to loss of lithium-ion inventory(LLI)in graphite anodes by intermittently regulating the overall battery voltage and anode potential using a negative charging current. Then, from the perspective of internal side reaction, the life extension mechanism is further revealed as inhibition of solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)and lithium dendrite growth by regulating voltage with a bidirectional pulse current, and a semi-empirical life degradation model combining SEI and lithium dendrite growth is developed for BPC scenarios health management, the model parameters are identified by genetic algorithm with the life simulation exhibiting an accuracy exceeding 99%.This finding indicates that under typical rate conditions, adaptable BPC strategies can extend the service life of LFP battery by approximately 123%.Consequently,the developed advanced BPC strategy offers innovative perspectives and insights for the development of long-life battery applications in the future. 展开更多
