This study is an attempt to point out the different types of natural hazards in Sudur Paschim province of Nepal where environmental degradation processes such as deforestation,desertification,biodiversity loss,soil crisp and watershed degradation are rising trends.Using participatory method multi hazard prone areas were identified with type and intensity.Multi criteria evaluation method was applied to prioritize replicable actions with location-specific innovative practices and their legitimization for integrating local and indigenous knowledge into mainstream education,science and policy with a view to incorporate local and indigenous knowledge as live science in disaster and climate change education.Findings of the study reveal that varieties of natural hazards in combination with social factors such as poverty,conflict and inequality have resulted frequent disasters and social vulnerabilities in many parts of the province.Traditionally,indigenous and local people have responded threats of multi hazards by using their traditional knowledge and skills which has evolved over generations,and continue to adapt to future changes.These traditional,often faith-based,beliefs and practices were found to use as the key to their resilience in the face of natural hazards.However,many communities have been lost their knowledge as the elderly die without transferring it to younger members.Behind this proper educational policy and strategic development plans have not been implemented to cope local/indigenous knowledge into practices.Findings of the study indicate that indigenous and local knowledge is a precious province resource that can support the process of disaster prevention,preparedness and response in cost-effective disaster risk reduction.Therefore,policy framework has to prime focus to integrate indigenous and local knowledge,wisdom and skills into mainstream educational programs in order to transfer science into policy and education(words)into practice. 展开更多

[Objective]From the perspective of multi-dimensional education theory,explore the situation of the concept of“Post-Course-Competition-Certificate”in nursing professional experimental teaching.[Methods]Through investigation and research,collect relevant data on the concept of“Post-Course-Competition-Certificate”in nursing major,including the understanding degree of the concept,the cognition of the role in nursing major learning,the cognition of the importance of each part,the participation degree,practical operation problems and overall satisfaction,etc.[Results]The survey found that the proportion of those who have a deep understanding of the concept of“Post-Course-Competition-Certificate”is low(very understanding 12.45%,relatively understanding 14.16%),and most are at the general level or below;most respondents recognize that this concept has a positive effect on nursing major learning,especially in improving practical ability(80.13%agree);post practice is considered the most important(accounting for 57.02%),but the participation degree in course learning is the highest(65.94%);insufficient practical opportunities(61.81%)and the disconnection between courses and practice(52.39%)are prominent problems in practical operations;on the whole,most respondents have a positive attitude towards this concept(very satisfied 28.82%,relatively satisfied 36.87%),but there are still a small number of dissatisfied people.[Conclusion]The concept of“Post-Course-Competition-Certificate”has important value in nursing major learning,but its popularization degree needs to be improved,and there are many problems in practical operations.When promoting this concept in nursing professional experimental teaching,existing problems should be solved and the needs of a small number of people should be paid attention to so as to improve the overall effect. 展开更多

National preparedness survey of pediatric intensive care units with simulation centers during the coronavirus pandemic

The coronavirus disease pandemic caught many pediatric hospitals unpreparedand has forced pediatric healthcare systems to scramble as they examine and planfor the optimal allocation of medical resources for the highest priority patients.There is limited data describing pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) preparednessand their health worker protections.AIMTo describe the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) preparedness effortsamong a set of PICUs within a simulation-based network nationwide.METHODS A cross-sectional multi-center national survey of PICU medical director(s) fromchildren’s hospitals across the United States. The questionnaire was developedand reviewed by physicians with expertise in pediatric critical care, disasterreadiness, human factors, and survey development. Thirty-five children’shospitals were identified for recruitment through a long-established nationalresearch network. The questions focused on six themes: (1) PICU and medicaldirector demographics;(2) Pediatric patient flow during the pandemic;(3)Changes to the staffing models related to the pandemic;(4) Use of personalprotective equipment (PPE);(5) Changes in clinical practice and innovations;and(6) Current modalities of training including simulation.RESULTSWe report on survey responses from 22 of 35 PICUs (63%). The majority of PICUswere located within children’s hospitals (87%). All PICUs cared for pediatricpatients with COVID-19 at the time of the survey. The majority of PICUs (83.4%)witnessed decreases in non-COVID-19 patients, 43% had COVID-19 dedicatedunits, and 74.6% pivoted to accept adult COVID-19 patients. All PICUsimplemented changes to their staffing models with the most common changesbeing changes in COVID-19 patient room assignment in 50% of surveyed PICUsand introducing remote patient monitoring in 36% of the PICU units. Ninety-fivepercent of PICUs conducted training for donning and doffing of enhanced PPE.Even 6 months into the pandemic, one-third of PICUs across the United Statesreported shortages in PPE. The most common training formats for PPE werehands-on training (73%) and video-based content (82%). The most commonconcerns related to COVID-19 practice were changes in clinical protocols andguidelines (50%). The majority of PICUs implemented significant changes in theirairway management (82%) and cardiac arrest management protocols in COVID-19patients (68%). Simulation-based training was the most commonly utilizedtraining modality (82%), whereas team training (73%) and team dynamics (77%)were the most common training objectives.CONCLUSIONSA substantial proportion of surveyed PICUs reported on large changes in theirpreparedness and training efforts before and during the pandemic. PICUsimplemented broad strategies including modifications to staffing, PPE usage,workflow, and clinical practice, while using simulation as the preferred trainingmodality. Further research is needed to advance the level of preparedness,support staff assuredness, and support deep learning about which preparednessactions were effective and what lessons are needed to improve PICU care andstaff protection for the next COVID-19 patient waves. 展开更多

Green human resource to stimulate low carbon behaviour through the mediation role of innovation practices and organizational commitment

Sustainability issues have long been a critical notion in business,while successful green human resource management(GHRM)has the potential to help organizations perform better in terms of environmental sustainability.The current paper evaluates the mechanism through which green human resource management affects green organizational commitment,green innovation practices and low-carbon behaviour among 610 employees in South Africa.The study further evaluates the mediation connection among the variables and the moderating influence of green transformational leadership through social cognitive theory.The stratified sampling approach was applied in selecting the respondents,and the structural equation model was applied to test the hypotheses.The empirical outcome of this research is as follows:(1)GHRM has a positive and substantial effect on green organizational commitment,green innovation practices and lowcarbon behaviour.(2)The findings also revealed that green organizational commitment and green innovation practices affect low-carbon behaviour among staff.(3)The results suggest that green organizational commitment and green innovation practices have a substantial mediation influence on the connection between green human resource management and low-carbon behaviour.(4)Last,green transformational leadership discovered a positive moderating effect on the link between green human resource management and low-carbon behaviour.The paper makes several practical recommendations for strengthening low-carbon behaviour.Therefore,human resource management managers should outline measures that can be used to empower and engage employees in environmental issues and provide them with autonomy to address these challenges. 展开更多
