A model for incipient movement of sediment in rolling pattern was established. In this model, the starting of sediment particles under low transport rate, the exposure degree of sediment, the lateral slope of water surface and the effect of transverse circulating current induced by the hydraulic structure of bend flow were fully considered. A theoretical formula for the incipient velocity of non-cohesive and non-uniform sediment in sloping river bends was developed. The results from the theoretical formula compared well with the experimental data. 展开更多

The incipient motion of bedload is due to the interaction between the flow and sediment.It is stochastically correlated with the flow structure,the sediment gradation and the arrangement of grains on the bed surface.The random position of the sediment on bed can be represented by a hiding factor or an exposure degree.Based on the numerical simulation of the disturbed flow in the interstice of grains,the influence of the two-way exposure degree(the vertical exposure degree and the longitudinal exposure degree) on the coarse grain incipient motion was investigated in this work.Results show that the exposure degree varies with the position of the sediment on the bed,which influences the flow structure around the particle and the incipient motion.In this paper,the major research achievements on this phenomenon include:Firstly,a mathematical model is established for the rolling-pattern incipient motion of the coarse grain under a critical state of moment balance.The influence of the partial disturbed flow is considered.Secondly,the two-way relative-exposure-degree probability distribution functions are developed to reflect the influence of the disturbed flow and the random arrangement of sediments.Thirdly,a formula to calculate the incipient velocity is presented based on the above results,which considers the impact of the two-way exposure degree of sediment particles. 展开更多

A conception of exposure degree is used in this article to account for the hiding and exposure mechanism of nonuniform sediment transport. The force arms of particles on the bed slope are assumed to be a function of the exposure degree, which is stochastically related to the size and gradation of bed materials. Based on this conception, the formula for the angle of repose of nonuniform sediment is developed. The angle of repose of nonuniform sediment is experimentally investigated in rotation drum at the rolling motion of sediment particles. The nonuniform sediment is gotten from the mixture of two kinds of uniform sediment with different weight ratios and two experimental plans that one for changing the weight ratio of two kinds of uniform sediment from 1:9 to 9:1 and the other changing the uniform sediment size and weight ratio are used. The effect of the rotation speed and the filling degree on the angle of repose is investigated, too. Finally, the formula has been tested against a wide range of laboratory data, the prediction by the newly proposed formulas is very good. 展开更多
