The unique continuous extrusion-based severe plastic deformation approaches were proposed recently to process high-performance magnesium (Mg) alloys,while the in-depth deformation mechanisms under such complicated thermomechanical conditions were not well understood In the present work,the fundamental deformation behaviors of AZ61 Mg alloy from 25 to 400°C were firstly examined under uniaxial compression deformation.Then the deformation mechanisms and microstructural characteristics of AZ61 Mg alloy during continuous expansion extrusion forming (CEEF) were systematically investigated by microstructural observations,finite element and cellular automata simulations The results showed that the continuous evolutions of temperature,larger strain level and complex stress state with strain rate range of 0~5.98 s-1during CEEF brought the distinctive dynamic recrystallization behaviors and texture development in AZ61 Mg alloy,which were different to that of uniaxial compression deformation.In details,a remarkable grain refinement was achieved via CEEF processing due to the simultaneous actions of continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) and discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX).Gradually enhanced CDRX were observed from center to edge region,which had significant effects on the texture distribution and texture strength.The c-axis of most grains rotated under distinctive shear strain following parabolic metal flow,resulting in stable fiber texture.In addition,the evolution of the internal texture of the alloy led to an obvious increase in the Schmid factor for the activation of basal(c+a)slip system.©2022 Chongqing University.Publishing services provided by Elsevier B.V.on behalf of Ke Ai Communications Co.Ltd. 展开更多

Heavy components of low-alloy high-strength(LAHS) steels are generally formed by multi-pass forging. It is necessary to explore the flow characteristics and hot workability of LAHS steels during the multi-pass forging process, which is beneficial to the formulation of actual processing parameters. In the study, the multi-pass hot compression experiments of a typical LAHS steel are carried out at a wide range of deformation temperatures and strain rates. It is found that the work hardening rate of the experimental material depends on deformation parameters and deformation passes, which is ascribed to the impacts of static and dynamic softening behaviors. A new model is established to describe the flow characteristics at various deformation passes. Compared to the classical Arrhenius model and modified Zerilli and Armstrong model, the newly proposed model shows higher prediction accuracy with a confidence level of 0.98565. Furthermore, the connection between power dissipation efficiency(PDE) and deformation parameters is revealed by analyzing the microstructures. The PDE cannot be utilized to reflect the efficiency of energy dissipation for microstructure evolution during the entire deformation process, but only to assess the efficiency of energy dissipation for microstructure evolution in a specific deformation parameter state.As a result, an integrated processing map is proposed to better study the hot workability of the LAHS steel, which considers the effects of instability factor(IF), PDE, and distribution and size of grains. The optimized processing parameters for the multi-pass deformation process are the deformation parameters of 1223–1318 K and 0.01–0.08 s^(-1). Complete dynamic recrystallization occurs within the optimized processing parameters with an average grain size of 18.36–42.3 μm. This study will guide the optimization of the forging process of heavy components. 展开更多

The influence of hot deformation conditions on continuous cooling bainitic transformation has been investigated for a low carbon microalloyed steel. The CCT diagrams show that deformation in unrecrpstallized austcnite ation can accelerate transformation process. Bainitic transformation in intermediate transformation temperature region is prominent, and the proeutectoid polygonal ferrite transformation at evelated high temperature is suppressed. According to optical and TEM analyses, low carbon bainitic ferrite is characterized by granular and lathlike ferrite, based on the cooling rate and deformation conditions. For nondeformation, groaps of coarse parallel ferrite lath form from the prior austenite grain boundaries with the same crystallographic orientation. For heavy deformaton, cell structure within the austenite grains due to the high dislocation density formed, which provides more nucleation sites for bainite ferrite. So deformation can discontinue the growth of ferrite laths and decrease the length of ferrite laths. 展开更多

Composite made of short-cut carbon fiber mat and vinyl ester resin was observed to be an effective sensor for tensile strain up to 6 000με. Based on its strain sensitivity, a skin-like sensitive layer which can continuously cover the structural surface to sense strain in large area was developed. The sensitive layer was applied to continuously monitor the deformation of a simply supported beam. The result indicates that the fractional change in electrical resistance of the sensitive layer reversibly reflects the beam deformation in each section and describes the distribution of the average strain of the beam. The effect of temperature change on the monitoring was studied by monitoring tests conducted at different temperatures ranging from 20 to 80 ℃, which reveals temperature sensitivity in the sensitive layer and the temperature dependence of the piezoresistive behavior when the temperature exceeds 50 ℃. By the application of differential conaection principle, a method for temperature compensation was established and the gauge factor for the monitoring was dramatically increased. Macro-deformation characteristics of continuous drive friction welded mild steel joints were examined by using one deformable workpiece (objective) and the other undeformable one (rigid). The microstructure evolution and hardness change across the joint were studied. The results show that the axial shortening and radial increment of joints increase with increasing the frictiou time at l 200 rpm. The cementite particles of pearlites in the weld center are uniformly distributed on the ferrite matrix, while the cementites of the pearlite in the thermal-mechanically affected zone are broken and discontinuously dispersed in the pearlite. The hardness decreases rapidly from the weld center to the parent metal under the coupled effects of heat and deformation during the rapid heating and cooling processes. 展开更多

Based on a large span continuous rigid frame bridge in Chongqing of China, the main pier vertical displacement and deviation, the bridge deck alignment and the expansion joint deformation are analytically researched during operation. Firstly, the monitoring content and method of the large span continuous rigid frame bridge are clearly stated. Secondly, by finite element software Midas Civil, the relevant deformation values of the bridge are calculated. Thirdly, in practice, the relevant deformation values of the bridge are measured. Finally, the measured values in practice are compared with the calculated ones by the finite element software Midas Civil, finding that the former is less than the latter, and it can be concluded that the bridge is basically in the normal working condition. In this paper, the analytical research on the deformation monitoring can provide the basis for similar bridges, which has good practical significance. 展开更多

The flow stress behavior of GH4033 superalloy was determined by the hot compression tests at the temperatures of 1223-1473 K and the total strains of 0.6 with the strain rates of 0.001-30.0 s^(-1) by using cylindrical samples.The processing maps based on the dynamic material model(DMM)combined with the corresponding microstructure observations indicate the reasonable processing domain locating at the strain rates of 0.1-1.0 s^(-1) and the deformation temperature of 1273-1423 K.Meanwhile,the numerical simulation based on finite element model(FEM)described the variation of the effective strain,effective strain rate and the temperature for the core node,and unveiled the influence of the hot rolling parameters considering the initial temperature(T_(0))range of 1223-1473 K and the first-stand biting velocity(v_(0))range of 0.15-0.35 m·s^(-1).Furthermore,the deformation stability of GH4033 superalloy in the round rod hot continuous rolling(HCR)process is described and analyzed by coupling the three-dimensional(3-D)processing map,and the spatial trajectory lines were determined by the numerically simulated temperatures,the strains and the strain rates.Finally,the results show that the hot deformation stability of GH4033 can be achieved by the rolling process parameters located at T_(0)=1423 K and v_(0)=0.25 m·s^(-1).Additionally,the practical HCR processes as T_(0)=1423 K and v_(0)=0.15,0.25,0.35 m·s^(-1) were operated to verify the influence of the hot rolling parameters on the hot deformation stability by the microstructure observation of the final products. 展开更多

Continuous Rapid Deformation (CRD) may be an important precursor before some strong earthquakes with magnitude greater than \%M\%s5.0. This paper shows some characteristics of CRD, and proposes a method for identifying precursory CRD that is closely related to the process of earthquake preparation. From the deformation data in Yunnan Sichan provinces, we obtained the tilt and strain thresholds of 4.5ms/d and 5 ×10 -7 /d, respectively. Compared the tilt CRD in this region before 9 earthquakes (short term fore shocks and after shocks not included) with magnitude greater than 5.8 in the period from January of 1990 to May of 2001, we found that 8 earthquakes occurred within 5 months after the CRD with a duration of more than 20 days and a tilt velocity of more than 4.5ms/d without false prediction, but with one failure in earthquake prediction. For the strain CRD, 5 earthquakes occurred after the CRD; there was no false prediction, but 4 earthquakes unpredicted. We have tried to increase the thresholds, but found either the failure ratio or the rate of false prediction increased, while the success rate not obvious increased. 展开更多

The results show that the prior deformation in low temperature region of austenite retards significantly the bainitic transformation. For the same continuous cooling schedule, as austenite deformed at lower temperature, the quantity of the classical sheaf-like bainite becomes less. The present results show that severe deformation leads to mechanical stabilization of austenite and causes the difficulty of bainitic ferrite propagation into the austenite. 展开更多

In order to continuously simulate multi-pass plate rolling process,a 3-D elastic hollow-roll model was proposed and an auto mesh-refining module with data passing was developed and integrated with FE software,Marc.The hollow-roll model has equivalent stiffness of bending resistance and deformation to the real solid and much less meshes,so the computational time is greatly reduced.Based on these,the factors influencing plate profile,such as the roll-bending force,initial crown,thermal crown and heat transfer during rolling and inter-pass cooling can be taken into account in the simulation.The auto mesh-refining module with data passing can automatically refine and re-number elements and transfer the nodal and elemental results to the new meshes.Furthermore,the 3-D modeling routine is parametrically developed and can be run independently of Marc pre-processing program.A seven-pass industrial hot rolling process was continuously simulated to validate the accuracy of model.By comparison of the calculated results with the industrial measured data,the rolling force,temperature and plate profile are in good accordance with the measured ones. 展开更多

The deformation zone of CONFORM extrusion was divided into primary gripping zone,gripping zone,conical expansion chamber zone,cylindrical zone and sizing zone of die,and corresponding force equilibrium equations were established using the Slab method.The deformation force formulae of CONFORM machine at any wrapping angle with an expansion chamber were obtained.Experiment on pure aluminum and Al-5%Ti-1%B alloy was conducted on the CONFORM machine self-designed.The resistance to deformation of Al-5%Ti-1%B alloy at the deformation temperature of 400℃ and the strain rate of 3.07 s-1 was measured to be 50 MPa using Gleeble-1500 thermal simulation machine.The calculation results of deformation forces for CONFORM process with an expansion chamber for pure aluminum and Al-5%Ti-1%B alloy were given.The experimental CONFORM radial force is in agreement with the radial force obtained by theoretical formula. 展开更多

Marc was used in the simulation using implicit static arithmetic. The whole rolling process of 30 passes was separated and simulated with several continuous 3D elastic-plastic FE models. A rigid pushing body and a data transfer technique were introduced into this model. The on-line experiments were conducted on 304 stainless steel and GCr15 steel hot continuous rolling process to prove the results of simulation by implicit static FEM. The results show that the temperature results of finite element simulations are in good agreement with experiments, which indicate that the FE model developed in this study is effective and efficient. 展开更多

The finite element simulation software SYSWELD is used to numerically simulate the temperature field,residual stress field,and welding deformation of Q690D thick plate multi-layer and multi-pass welding under different welding heat input and groove angles.The simulation results show that as the welding heat input increases,the peak temperature during the welding process is higher,and the residual stress increases,they are all between 330–340 MPa,and the residual stress is concentrated in the area near the weld.The hole-drilling method is used to measure the actual welding residual stress,and the measured data is in good agreement with the simulated value.The type of post-welding deformation is angular deformation,and as the welding heat input increases,the maximum deformation also increases.It shows smaller residual stress and deformation when the groove angle is 40°under the same heat input.In engineering applications,under the premise of guaranteeing welding quality,smaller heat input and 40°groove angle should be used. 展开更多

To explore the application of severe plastic deformation for grain refinement in steel production, a new method called continuous frictional angular extrusion (CFAE) was applied to refine the grain of interstitial-free steel. The deformation was carried out at room temperature and individual sheet specimens were processed in different number of passes. An overall grain size of 200nm was achieved after 8 passes and the proportion of high-angle boundaries to the total boundaries was more than 60%. The dynamic recrystallization(DRX) and texture development, taking place during hot deformation of magnesium alloy AZ31 with a strong wire texture, were studied in compression at 673 K (0.73 Tm). Two kinds of samples were machined parallelly to the extruded and transverse directions of Mg alloy rods. New fine grains are evolved at original grain boundaries corrugated at low strains and develop rapidly in the medium range of strain, finally leading to a roughly full evolution of equiaxial fine grains. Kink bands are evolved at grain boundaries corrugated and also frequently in grain interiors at low strains. The boundary misorientations of kink band increase rapidly with increasing strain and approach a saturation value in high strain. The average size of the regions fragmented by kink band is almost the same as that of new grains evolved in high strain. These characteristics of new grain evolution process are not changed by the orientation of the samples, while the flow behaviors clearly depend on it. It is concluded that new grain evolution can be controlled by a deformation-induced continuous reaction, i.e. continuous dynamic recrystallization(DRX). The latter is discussed by comparing with conventional, i.e. discontinuous DRX. 展开更多

Hot deformation behaviors and microstructure evolution of Ti-3Al-5Mo-4Cr-2Zr-1Fe(Ti-35421)alloy in theβsingle field are investigated by isothermal compression tests on a Gleeble-3500 simulator at temperatures of 820-900°C and strain rates of 0.001-1 s^(-1).The research results show that discontinuous yield phenomenon and rheological softening are affected by the strain rates and deformation temperatures.The critical conditions for dynamic recrystallization and kinetic model of Ti-35421 alloy are determined,and the Arrhenius constitutive model is constructed.The rheological behaviors of Ti-35421 alloys aboveβphase transformation temperature are predicted by the constitutive model accurately.The EBSD analysis proves that the deformation softening is controlled by dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization.In addition,continuous dynamic recrystallization is determined during hot deformation,and the calculation model for recrystallization grain sizes is established.Good linear dependency between the experimental and simulated values of recrystallized grain sizes indicates that the present model can be used for the prediction of recrystallized grain size with high accuracy. 展开更多
