Our objective was to enhance the frequency of plant regeneration in Himalayan poplar (Populus ciliata wall. ex Royle). The effect of TDZ alone and in combi- nation with adenine and NAA was studied on the regen- eration potential of petiole explants. The explants were excised from Himalayan poplar plants grown in glass- houses. After surface sterilization the explants were cul- tured on shoot induction medium. High percentage shoot regeneration (86 %) was recorded on MS medium sup- plemented with 0.004 mg L-1 TDZ and 79.7 mg L-1 adenine. The regenerated shoots for elongation and multi- plication were transferred to MS + 0.5 mg L-1 BAP + 0.2 mg L-1 IAA + 0.3 mg L-1 GA3. Root re- generation from shoots developed in vitro was observed on MS medium supplemented with 0.10 mg L-1 IBA. Hi- malayan poplar plantlets could be produced within 2 months after acclimatization in a sterile mixture of sand and soil. We developed a high efficiency plant regeneration protocol from petiole explants of P. ciliata.展开更多

A static life table was prepared. Moreover, the curves of survival rate, mortality rate and killing powder were drawn so as to perform spectral analysis for Toona clliata in Qizimeishan Nature Reserve. The results showed that the Vpi and Vpf of the Toona ci/iata population were 32.32% and 4.039%, respectively, indicating that Toona ci/iata is a stable growth-oriented population with high risk sensitivity. The survival rate curve was approximately fitted to the Deevey II type, so the individuals in each age class had an equivalent mortality rate in overall. The qx and Kx all reached peaks si- multaneously at 1, 4 and 6 age classes, indicating great effects of physiological properties, environmental sieves and human disturbances on Toona ci/iata population at various growth stages. The spectral analysis showed that the fundamental wave A1 was 0.752 8, while A3 showed an obvious minor cycle deviating from AI. It suggests that there is a periodicity, with minor cycles of multi-harmonic superposition, in natural regeneration of Toona ciliata population.展开更多

The volatile compounds of these two parts from Elsholtzia ciliata aerial parts were respectively analyzed by a rapid and convenient static headspace injection technique coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and the relative contents of each constituent between the two different parts were determined by peak area normalization. 61 compounds were identified in the stem (with leaf) and flower, among which 39 components simultaneously exist. 47 and 53 compounds were separated and identified in the volatile compounds from the different parts of Elsholtzia ciliata, respectively. There were differences among some volatile constituents of the two parts, but the main constituents were all Elsholtzia ketone, caryophyllene, 3-octanol and Dehydroelsholtzia ketone. The most abundant components in the stem (with leaf) included Elsholtzia ketone (84.20%), caryophyllene (4.3%) and 3-octanol (3.11%), while Elsholtzia ketone (88.03%), caryophyllene (3.33%) and 3-octanol (1.53%) were the main components in the flower. 8 single constituents were identified in the stem (with leaf) volatiles including 3-heptanone and linalool, while 14 constituents only including 2-methylbutanoic acid and Perillene have been found in the flower volatiles. Elsholtzia ketone was the main compound, and its concentration was significantly higher than other substances (>80% of the total oils in Elsholtzia ciliata). The study provided an important scientific base for the further utilization of Elsholtzia ciliata resources and may be helpful for systematically understanding the constituents of volatile compounds of Elsholtzia ciliata.展开更多

The rhizobox (10 × 5.5 × 50 cm) had a nylon mesh (1 μm) positioned vertically in the middle to create two compartments filled with soil amended with 1 g NaCl kg-1. The plants were grown in one compartment only. Flushed treatments received 275 mL of deionized water two days before harvest. In the plant-growing compartment, soils were sectioned vertically at 5 cm intervals. Significant differences in soil electrical conductivity (EC) (P < 0.05) and pH (P < 0.05) were observed for depths, but not between flushed and non-flushed treatments. In the no-plant compartment (rhizosphere), soil cores were taken horizontally at depths of 5, 20 and 40 cm and sliced at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 20 mm away from the roots. Soil EC and Cl- concentration at the 5 and 20 cm depths, and Na+ concentration at the 5 cm depth significantly decreased (P < 0.05) with the distance away from the root, but no significant differences were observed in soil pH and concentrations of the K+ and Ca2+. The flush treatment only had significant influence on soil EC, pH, and Cl- concentration at the 20 cm depth. Thus, salt accumulation could occur in the rhizosphere of salt-tolerant species on saline soils, and the periodic low rainfall might not have a strong influence on salt distribution in the rhizosphere and/or root zone.展开更多

Bergenia (Saxifragaceae) is an evergreen perennial herb widely distributed in Central and East Asia with about 30 species reported worldwide. It grows at a range of altitudes from the Khasia hills at 400 feet to the temperate Himalayas from Kashmir to Bhutan at 7,000-10,000 feet. Its distribution over a wide range of altitudinal zones makes it a good candidate for studying variations in its metabolic profiles under different climatic conditions. Bergenin (C-glycoside of 4-O-methyl gallic acid) has been identified as a potent active secondary metabolite in Bergenia and other therapeutically active constituents including, among others, gallic acid (3,4,5 trihydroxybenzoic acid), (+) catechin, and gallicin (Fig. 1).展开更多

The results of regression analysis showed a significant effect of temperature on flight distance (P=0.0082). Temperature did not influence flight duration (P=0.212) or flight speed (P=0.175). The mean flight distance (1 024 m) and mean flight duration were the greatest at 25.2°C. The age of C. ciliata had a significant influence on flight distance (P=0.0005), flight duration (P=0.0005) and flight speed (P=0.026). The 12-d-old adult had the greatest flight distance (887 m), duration (3 875 s) and speed (0.22 m s^–1). Flight distances and flight duration of females were significantly longer than that of males. However, the male had significantly greater flight speed than the female. The insect appears to be capable of long distance flights. The understanding of the optimal age and temperature for the flight of this insect through this study provides a foundation for better management of the insect in China.展开更多

Indee...Most ecological studies in North Africa reveal a process of continuous degradation of rangeland ecosystems as a result of overgrazing. This degradation appears across the decreasing of perennial grass diversity. Indeed, the majority of steppe ecosystems are characterized by a low density of perennial grass species at present. This study evaluated the effects of temperature and water limitation on the seed germination of Stipagrostis ciliata(Desf.) de Winter, a perennial grass species. The seeds were collected from the Bou Hedma Park, Sidi Bouzid Governorate, Central Tunisia. The thermal time and hydrothermal time models were used to describe the seed germination of S. ciliata under different water potentials and temperatures. The germination response of S. ciliata seeds in darkness was evaluated over a range of temperatures(15°C, 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 35°C) and across a wide range of osmotic potentials(0.0, –0.2, –0.6, –1.2, –1.6 and –2.0 MPa) of the polyethylene glycol(PEG6000) solutions at each temperature level. Among the tested temperatures, 25°C was found to be the optimal temperature to the germination of S. ciliata seeds. The final germination percentage(75.2%) was obtained with distilled water. The progressive decrease of osmotic potential of the PEG6000 solutions inhibited the seed germination. However, the number of days to first germination was increased with a reduction of osmotic potential. A significant positive relationship was identified between final germination percentage of S. ciliata seeds and osmotic potential of the PEG6000 solutions, with R^2 ranging from 0.5678 to 0.8761. Furthermore, a high degree of congruency between predicted and observed germination time course curves was observed. In general, S. ciliata exhibits a significant adaptation capacity for water limitation and high temperature in arid ecosystems.展开更多

To give ...Spionid worms of Polydora ciliata inhabit the shells of many commercially important bivalves and cause disease in molluscan aquaculture. Their sperm structure is closely related to their fertilization method. To give an insight into the sperm structure and spermatogenesis, ultrastructure details of the subcellular components of germ cells during spermiogenesis of Polydora ciliata are detected by transmission electron microscopy(TEM). In P. ciliata, during spermiogenesis, chromatin is regularly arranged as dense fibrils and becomes more condensed when the nucleus elongates. Microtubules do not surround the nucleus during its elongation. The Golgi phase is characterized by the formation of proacrosomal granules within the Golgi apparatus. The proacrosomal granules fuse to form a single, spherical acrosomal vesicle that migrates to the anterior pole of the cell. At the time of nuclear condensation, mitochondria become reduced in number but increased in size, causing deep indentation at the base of the nucleus. The mid-piece has a few mitochondria. The cap phase includes the spreading of the acrosomal granule over the surface of the nucleus of the differentiating spermatid. The acrosomal phase of spermiogenesis is typically associated with changes in the shape of the nucleus, acrosome and tail. The relationship of sperm ultrastructure to spermiogenesis in spionidae species was discussed.展开更多

The study provided an important scientific base for the further utilization of Elsholtzia ciliata resources and may be helpful for systematically understanding the constituents of volatile compounds of Elsholtzia ciliata.
文摘A glasshouse experiment using a rhizobox technique was conducted to examine salt dynamics in the rhizosphere of a salt-tolerant grass, Puccinellia ciliata Bor. ’Irwin Hunter’, grown in a loamy soil, and to study the effect of rainfall flush on salt accumulation in the rhizosphere. Thus, salt accumulation could occur in the rhizosphere of salt-tolerant species on saline soils, and the periodic low rainfall might not have a strong influence on salt distribution in the rhizosphere and/or root zone.
文摘Dear Editor: Therapeutically active metabolite contents in a med- icinal plant vary in nature, which may impact on its therapeutic efficacy. 1).

文摘The flight capacity of different ages and sexes of the sycamore lace bug, Corythucha ciliata, was studied at different temperatures using a flight mill system. The understanding of the optimal age and temperature for the flight of this insect through this study provides a foundation for better management of the insect in China.

文摘Most ecological studies in North Africa reveal a process of continuous degradation of rangeland ecosystems as a result of overgrazing. In general, S. ciliata exhibits a significant adaptation capacity for water limitation and high temperature in arid ecosystems.

文摘Stipagrostis ciliata(Desf.)De Winter is a pastoral C4 grass grown in arid regions. This research work focused on assessing the growth of S.ciliata accessions derived from two different climate regions(a wet arid region in the Bou Hedma National Park in the central and southern part of Tunisia(coded as WA),and a dry arid region from the Matmata Mountain in the south of Tunisia(coded as DA))under water stress conditions.Specifically, the study aimed to investigate the phenological and physiological responses of potted S.ciliata seedlings under different water treatments:T_(1)(200 mm/a),T_(2)(150 mm/a),T_(3)(100 mm/a)and T_(4)(50 mm/a).Growth phenology, net photosynthesis(Pn),stomatal conductance(gs),midday leaf water potential(Ψmd),predawn leaf water potential(Ψpd),soil water content(SWC)and soil water potential(Ψs)were observed during the water stress cycle(from December 2016 to November 2017).The obtained results showed that the highest growth potential of the two accessions(WA and DA)was recorded under treatment T_(1).The two accessions responded differently and significantly to water stress.Photosynthetic parameters, such as Pn and gs,decreased sharply under treatments T_(2),T_(3)and T_(4)compared to treatment T_(1).The higher water stress increased the R/S ratio(the ratio of root dry biomass to shoot dry biomass),with values of 1.29 and 2.74 under treatment T_(4)for accessions WA and DA,respectively.Principal component analysis(PCA)was applied, and the separation of S.ciliata accessions on the first two axes of PCA(PC1 and PC2)suggested that accession DA was detected in the negative extremity of PC1 and PC2 under treatments T_(1)and T_(2).This accession was characterized by a high number of spikes. For treatments T_(3)and T_(4),both accessions were detected in the negative extremity of PC1 and PC2.They were characterized by a high root dry biomass.Therefore,S.ciliata accessions responded to water stress by displaying significant changes in their behaviours.Accession WA from the Bou Hedma National Park(wet arid region)showed higher drought tolerance than accession DA from the Matmata Mountain(dry arid region).S.ciliata exhibits a significant adaptation capacity for water limitation and may be an important species for ecosystem restoration.
文摘Through two years of systematic investigation,it was found that Corythucha ciliata occurred in the main streets of Guangde City and spread rapidly to roads and streets of some villages and towns. The investigation found that C.ciliata could harm indigenous tree species such as Broussonetia papyrifera, and could also quickly occupy the living space of thrips, the original leaf pest of local Platanus acerifolia.Literature review also suggested that the pest would also be a potential threat to indigenous tree species, such as Rhododendron simsii Planch,Prunus cerasifera Ehrhar, etc.Guangde City, located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, was sunny, hot and dry in summer from 2021 to 2022.However,C.ciliata had no obvious diapause habits in summer, with strong adaptability. It was easy to control C.ciliata, but was difficult to eradicate the pest.According to the risk analysis index system of dangerous forest pests, the risk value of C.ciliata was determined as R=1.80,belonging to moderately dangerous pest in Guangde.Through quarantine, publicity, winter and summer management measures, the occurrence of C.ciliata was controlled to a certain extent, and the harm and transmission risk of the pest were reduced.

文摘Spionid worms of Polydora ciliata inhabit the shells of many commercially important bivalves and cause disease in molluscan aquaculture. The relationship of sperm ultrastructure to spermiogenesis in spionidae species was discussed.
