Concepts and Misconceptions in Climate Change Risk Assessment: Considerations for Sea Level Rise and Extreme Precipitation Risk

Flood extremes due to sea level rise and extreme precipitation are expected to increase in frequency and intensity. However, despite the need for accurate climate change risk assessment, significant misconceptions in key risk terms, including vulnerability and impact, could lead to risk miscalculations. These misconceptions around risk concepts derive from the lack of risk terms’ standardization and the gaps in an integrated and widely accepted methodology for assessing climate change risks. Risk assessment frameworks should follow the specialties of each element/sector it is applied on and the special features of each climate hazard. Also, risk assessment matrix should not follow specific design settings but it should better follow the needs of each study, so as to optimize the understanding of each risk. Through an extensive literature review, this is the first paper that identifies gaps, inconsistencies and misuses of climate risk concepts and suggests specific systemization and standardization of risk terms definitions. Finally, it develops a climate change risk assessment framework and matrix, focusing on sea level rise and extreme precipitation, which could be widely implemented in risk assessment of all elements at sea level rise and extreme precipitation risk. 展开更多

PBL-RISE教学模式在妇产科护理课程思政中的应用研究

目的 探讨基于问题的教学法(problem-based learning,PBL)联合以文献为导向的自我学习(reference induced self-education,RISE)(简称PBL-RISE教学模式)在妇产科护理课程思政教育中的应用效果。方法 采用便利抽样法选取2021年10月—2022... 目的 探讨基于问题的教学法(problem-based learning,PBL)联合以文献为导向的自我学习(reference induced self-education,RISE)(简称PBL-RISE教学模式)在妇产科护理课程思政教育中的应用效果。方法 采用便利抽样法选取2021年10月—2022年1月于华中科技大学同济医学院附属同济医院妇产科实习的78名护生作为教学对象,将2021年10—11月的39名护生设为对照组,将2021年12月—2022年1月的39名护生设为试验组。对照组采用传统教学模式,试验组采用PBLRISE教学模式。实习结束后,通过理论、操作考核及填写护士人文执业能力量表对2组的教学效果进行评价。结果 试验组理论考试成绩为(85.53±5.05)分,高于对照组的(79.11±6.93)分,差异有统计学意义(P <0.05);试验组操作技能成绩为(91.71±2.44)分,与对照组的(91.31±2.39)分比较,差异无统计学意义(P> 0.05)。试验组人文执业能力总分[(95.71±5.54)分]及人文关怀实践[(37.28±4.05)分]、人际沟通[(22.18±2.85)分]、自我管理[(10.64±1.65)分]、伦理与法律实践[(11.54±1.07)分]、心理调试[(14.08±1.75)分]得分均高于对照组[(84.58±5.11)分、(33.21±3.73)分、(19.82±2.25)分、(9.87±1.59)分、(10.05±1.19)分、(11.64±1.27)分],差异有统计学意义(P <0.05)。试验组总满意度(97.4%)与对照组(89.7%)比较,差异无统计学意义(P> 0.05)。结论 PBL-RISE教学模式应用于妇产科护理教学中有助于培养护生的人文执业能力,提升教学效果。 展开更多

Sediment Dynamics Subject to Sea Level Rise in the Yangtze River Estuary

In this study,a two-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment transport model is established to quantify the influences of sea level rise on sediment transport in the Yangtze River Estuary(YRE).After validation,the model was employed to investigate the sediment transport and seabed evolution under four different scenarios of sea level rise,specifically,0,0.5,1 and 1.5 m.The results reveal that there exists a‘transition point(TP)'of SSC in each main channel of YRE.Upstream of the transition point,the suspended sediment concentration(SSC)increases along with the rise in sea level,while downstream of the transition point,SSC decreases as sea level rises.Similarly,there are also transition points for topography evolution.The maximum scouring rate upstream of the transition points exceeds 4.32% for a 1.5 m rise in sea level,while the maximum deposition rate downstream of the transition points is 2.48%.The sediment fluxes from upstream to downstream in the branches of YRE are enhanced by the rise in sea level.The direction of sediment flux in the North Branch reverses downstream as sea level rises.The sediment flux from the North Channel towards downstream increases significantly,while there is no significant change in sediment flux for South Channel.Sediment deposition in the North Passage is also accelerated by sea level rise.In addition,the sediment flux from YRE to northern Jiangsu and Hangzhou Bay is also weakened by the rise in sea level. 展开更多

The Impact of Sea Level Rise on Roadway Design and Evacuation Routes in Delaware

As the global temperature continues to increase, the sea level continues to rise at a rapid rate that has never been seen before. This becomes an issue for many facets of life but one of the most impacted is the transportation infrastructure. Many people living in low elevation coastal areas can become trapped by flooding with no way in or out. With Delaware being a coastal state, this would affect a large portion of the population and will have detrimental effects over time if nothing is done to combat sea level rise. The issue with sea level rise in transportation is that once the roads become flooded, they become virtually unusable and detour routes would be needed. If all the roads in a coastal area were to be affected by sea level rise, the options for detours would become limited. This article looks at direct solutions to combat sea level rise and indirect solutions that would specifically help transportation infrastructure and evacuation routes in Delaware. There is not one solution that can fix every problem, so many solutions are laid out to see what is applicable to each affected area. Some solutions include defense structures that would be put close to the coast, raising the elevation of vulnerable roads throughout the state and including pumping stations to drain the water on the surface of the road. With an understanding of all these solutions around the world, the ultimate conclusion came in the form of a six-step plan that Delaware should take in order to best design against sea level rise in these coastal areas. 展开更多

The development of vehicle integrated photovoltaics-powered electric vehicles (VIPV-EV) significantly reduces CO<sub>2</sub> emissions from the transport sector to realize a decarbonized society. Although long-distance driving of VIPV-EV without electricity charging is expected in sunny regions, driving distance of VIPV-EV is affected by climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules. In this paper, detailed analytical results for effects of climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules upon driving distance of the VIPV-EV were presented by using test data for Toyota Prius and Nissan Van demonstration cars installed with high-efficiency InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs 3-junction solar cell modules with a module efficiency of more than 30%. The temperature rise of some PV modules studied in this study was shown to be expressed by some coefficients related to solar irradiation, wind speed and radiative cooling. The potential of VIPV-EV to be deployed in 10 major cities was also analyzed. Although sunshine cities such as Phoenix show the high reduction ratio of driving range with 17% due to temperature rise of VIPV modules, populous cities such as Tokyo show low reduction ratio of 9%. It was also shown in this paper that the difference between the driving distance of VIPV-EV driving in the morning and the afternoon is due to PV modules’ radiative cooling. In addition, the importance of heat dissipation of PV modules and the development of high-efficiency PV modules with better temperature coefficients was suggested in order to expand driving range of VIPV-EV. The effects of air-conditioner usage and partial shading in addition to the effects of temperature rise of VIPV modules were suggested as the other power losses of VIPV-EV. 展开更多

Mangroves play a pivotal role in tropical and subtropical coastal ecosystem,yet they are highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change,particularly the accelerated global sea level rise(SLR)and stronger tropical cyclones(TCs).However,there is a lack of research addressing future simultaneous combined impacts of the slow-onset of SLR and rapid-onset of TCs on China's mangroves.In order to develop a comprehensive risk assessment method considering the superimposed effects of these two factors and analyze risk for mangroves in Dongzhaigang,Hainan Island,China,we used observational and climate model data to assess the risks to mangroves under low,intermediate,and very high greenhouse gas(GHG)emission scenarios(such as SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,and SSP5-8.5)in 2030,2050,and 2100,and compiled a risk assessment scheme for mangroves in Dongzhaigang,China.The results showed that the combined risks from SLR and TCs will continue to rise;however,SLRs will increase in intensity,and TCs will decrease.The comprehensive risk of the Dongzhaigang mangroves posed by climate change will remain low under SSP1-2.6 and SSP2-4.5 scenarios by 2030,but it will increase substantially by 2100.While under SSP5-8.5 scenario,the risks to mangroves in Dongzhaigang are projected to increase considerably by 2050,and approximately 68.8%of mangroves will be at very high risk by 2100.The risk to the Dongzhaigang mangroves is not only influenced by the hazards but also closely linked to their exposure and vulnerability.We therefore propose climate resilience developmental responses for mangroves to address the effects of climate change.This study for the combined impact of TCs and SLR on mangroves in Dongzhaigang,China can enrich the method system of mangrove risk assessment and provide references for scientific management. 展开更多

The Ba Lang sand beaches, located north of the Nha Trang Bay in Central Vietnam, are famous tourist attractions. However, they are experiencing shoreline and coastal erosion retreat, which is attributed to natural causes (such as tropical depressions, storms, and monsoons) as well as human impacts (such as hydropower generation, sand dredging, and coastal works). According to the forecast of the Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, global climate change will cause the sea level to rise by 74 cm along the coast from the Dai Lanh Cape to the Ke Ga Cape (including the Ba Lang beaches) by the end of this century in the representative concentration pathway (RCP) 8.5 scenario. Sea level rise (SLR) due to global climate change is expected to aggravate the coastal erosion and shoreline retreat problems. In this study, coupled numerical models with the spectral wave module (MIKE 21 SW), hydrodynamic module (MIKE 21 HD), and sand transport module (MIKE 21 ST) in the MIKE 21 package were used to simulate waves, current fields, and sediment dynamics along the Ba Lang beaches considering the impact of SLR. These models were calibrated with the field data measured in December 2016. The results showed that SLR caused the wave height to increase and reduced the current speed and total sediment load in monsoon conditions. The increase in wave height was even intensified under the joint impact of SLR and extreme events. 展开更多

A winding system is a time-varying system that considers complex nonlinear characteristics,and how to control the stability of the winding tension during the winding process is the primary problem that has hindered development in this field in recent years.Many nonlinear factors affect the tension in the winding process,such as friction,structured uncertainties,unstructured uncertainties,and external interference.These terms severely restrict the tension tracking performance.Existing tension control strategies are mainly based on the composite control of the tension and speed loops,and previous studies involve complex decoupling operations.Owing to the large number of calculations required for this method,it is inconvenient for practical engineering applications.To simplify the tension generation mechanism and the influence of the nonlinear characteristics of the winding system,a simpler nonlinear dynamic model of the winding tension was established.An adaptive method was applied to update the feedback gain of the continuous robust integral of the sign of the error(RISE).Furthermore,an extended state observer was used to estimate modeling errors and external disturbances.The model disturbance term can be compensated for in the designed RISE controller.The asymptotic stability of the system was proven according to the Lyapunov stability theory.Finally,a comparative analysis of the proposed nonlinear controller and several other controllers was performed.The results indicated that the control of the winding tension was significantly enhanced. 展开更多

变压器热点温度是衡量变压器负载潜力及运行安全性的重要指标,是变压器状态监测以及预测的重点。绕组底部首饼直接与散热片回流的冷油接触,周围油温与冷油近似相等,可以较为准确地分析其散热。该文从变压器传热原理出发,提出一种新的热... 变压器热点温度是衡量变压器负载潜力及运行安全性的重要指标,是变压器状态监测以及预测的重点。绕组底部首饼直接与散热片回流的冷油接触,周围油温与冷油近似相等,可以较为准确地分析其散热。该文从变压器传热原理出发,提出一种新的热点温度计算模型。首先,基于理论推导建立绕组首饼温度的控制方程,并使用热电类比方法建立可用于实际运行的绕组首饼局部热路模型。通过对一台内置传感光纤的110 kV油浸式变压器进行11级不同负载共21 h温升试验,获得不同负载率下绕组温度变化情况,并提出基于绕组首饼温度及绕组温度梯度的热点温度模型。基于局部热路模型,使用负载率及散热片进出口油温作为输入变量,成功预测绕组首饼温度。随后,建立绕组整体温度梯度的指数、差分方程模型,并基于提出的热点计算模型对连续变负载试验的结果进行预测。结果表明,模型预测均方根误差为4.02 K,相较传统模型,最大误差降低21%,验证所提计算模型的有效性。 展开更多

某超高层建筑塔楼的两侧子结构通过每层的两条连廊连接,形成平面细腰型且开洞的结构形式。通过1∶35缩尺比例模型的振动台试验,研究了模型的破坏形态、动力特性、加速度响应、位移响应、扭转响应等,重点研究了连廊的应变响应。结果表明... 某超高层建筑塔楼的两侧子结构通过每层的两条连廊连接,形成平面细腰型且开洞的结构形式。通过1∶35缩尺比例模型的振动台试验,研究了模型的破坏形态、动力特性、加速度响应、位移响应、扭转响应等,重点研究了连廊的应变响应。结果表明:在采用规范方法所选地震波作用下,模型未见破坏;在速度脉冲型地震波作用下,多层连廊端部产生竖向裂缝。模型以Y向整体侧移为主,两侧子结构发生明显的异步变形,对连廊受力不利。建议在设计时,除了加强连廊与子结构的连接外,应尽量减小子结构抗侧刚度的差异,控制细腰部分的缩进程度和开洞尺寸,控制子结构外伸段长宽比以及两侧外伸段的抗侧刚度差异。 展开更多

流线型构件对TTU模型风荷载影响的大涡模拟研究

低矮建筑屋盖角区出现的高极值负压,是其围护结构抗风设计的重点。基于空气动力学原理,依据屋面角区绕流形态,基于TTU(Texas Tech University)标准建筑模型设计了一种屋面角区新型流线型附加构件,并通过改变附加构件高度、长度等参数,... 低矮建筑屋盖角区出现的高极值负压,是其围护结构抗风设计的重点。基于空气动力学原理,依据屋面角区绕流形态,基于TTU(Texas Tech University)标准建筑模型设计了一种屋面角区新型流线型附加构件,并通过改变附加构件高度、长度等参数,进行了10种工况的刚性模型测压风洞试验和大涡模拟(LES)对比研究,以探讨这类新型附加构件对屋面角区风荷载的影响和屋面抗风气动优化以及LES精度等问题。研究结果表明:屋面角区设置附加构件均可有效降低角区出现的极值负压,在所研究的10种工况中,屋面角区最不利平均负压最大可降低10%,最不利极值负压最大可降低25%;利用NSRFG(Narrowband Synthesis Random Flow Generation)方法生成入流湍流,采用LES得到的TTU模型各工况下的风荷载分布规律,虽然部分工况下屋面平均风压系数绝对值模拟结果偏大(平均误差为13.88%),而极值风压系数偏小(平均误差为9.72%),但整体上与风洞试验一致,表明利用NSRFG方法建立的低矮建筑绕流模型具有较好的精度;附加构件长度相对于高度而言对屋面角区风荷载的影响更大,等长附加构件高度增加1倍后,屋面角区极值风压系数降低6.15%,等高附件长度增加0.8倍后,屋面角区极值风压系数降低10.77%。 展开更多

为了解决大跨度空腹网架结构抗剪刚度不足的问题,贵州大学马克俭教授于20世纪90年代创新地提出了空腹夹层板结构。通过减小竖杆的高宽比,使之形成“超短柱”,即剪力键,利用剪力键连接上、下肋协同受力,从而使空腹夹层板结构具有较大的... 为了解决大跨度空腹网架结构抗剪刚度不足的问题,贵州大学马克俭教授于20世纪90年代创新地提出了空腹夹层板结构。通过减小竖杆的高宽比,使之形成“超短柱”,即剪力键,利用剪力键连接上、下肋协同受力,从而使空腹夹层板结构具有较大的剪切刚度,其整体力学特性介于密肋井字楼盖与空腹网架之间。系统回顾了空腹夹层板结构的发展历程,介绍了该结构的组成和分类,总结了该结构的几何和力学特点,归纳了现有的理论分析方法与技术规程、结构优势及工程应用案例,尤其是2010年以后的工程实践进展;最后,对空腹夹层板结构体系的应用前景进行展望。空腹夹层板结构具有大跨度灵活划分空间、节约层高、降低结构自重、节省建筑用材、空腹可穿越管线等诸多优势,在全国30个省(市、自治区)的实际工程应用面积已达300余万平方米,节约建设资金超过2亿元。空腹夹层板结构体系的理论及实践创新体现了新时代的科技自立自强,采用多高层大跨度空腹夹层板楼盖结构可节约土地资源,对促进我国生态文明建设有重要意义。 展开更多

【背景】鱼类作为重要的水产品,具有高蛋白质、低糖、低盐、低脂肪等营养学特点,在保障人类食物和营养安全中发挥了重要作用。【进展】中国鱼类养殖历史悠久,著有世界最早的养鱼著作−《养鱼经》,形成最古老的生态养殖方式−桑基鱼塘,攻... 【背景】鱼类作为重要的水产品,具有高蛋白质、低糖、低盐、低脂肪等营养学特点,在保障人类食物和营养安全中发挥了重要作用。【进展】中国鱼类养殖历史悠久,著有世界最早的养鱼著作−《养鱼经》,形成最古老的生态养殖方式−桑基鱼塘,攻克了青鱼(Mylopharyngodon piceus)、草鱼(Ctenoparygodon idellus)、鲢(Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)、鳙(Aristichthys nobilis)等养殖鱼类的人工繁殖技术,拥有完善的鱼类生态养殖理论−“八字精养法”及丰富的渔文化。自20世纪80年代初以来,中国鱼类养殖技术不断创新、养殖模式绿色转型升级,养殖品种、面积和产量不断突破,形成了草鱼养殖产量独占鳌头、池塘养殖模式占据重要地位的特色渔业,以及“品种研究-集成技术-产业开发”的特色发展模式;完成了从“吃鱼难”到“吃鱼多”,再到“吃好鱼”的结构调整,海水养殖实现了从近岸到深远海鱼类养殖的跨越发展。目前,以鱼类养殖为主的中国水产养殖产量占世界养殖总产量的2/3,是世界水产养殖大国。【意义】随着中国水产绿色健康养殖技术“五大行动”的推进,中国鱼类养殖业“高效、优质、生态、健康、持续、安全”绿色发展,对提高人民生活水平和促进乡村振兴等具有重要意义。 展开更多
