This paper introduces the Surrogate-assisted Multi-objective Grey Wolf Optimizer(SMOGWO)as a novel methodology for addressing the complex problem of empty-heavy train allocation, with a focus on line utilization balance.By integrating surrogate models to approximate the objective functions,SMOGWO significantly improves the efficiency and accuracy of the optimization process. The effectiveness of this approach is evaluated using the CEC2009 multi-objective test function suite, where SMOGWO achieves a superiority rate of 76.67%compared to other leading multi-objective algorithms.Furthermore, the practical applicability of SMOGWO is demonstrated through a case study on empty and heavy train allocation, which validates its ability to balance line capacity, minimize transportation costs, and optimize the technical combination of heavy trains. The research highlights SMOGWO's potential as a robust solution for optimization challenges in railway transportation, offering valuable contributions toward enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainable development in the sector. 展开更多

To address the challenges of high-dimensional constrained optimization problems with expensive simulation models,a Surrogate-Assisted Differential Evolution using Manifold Learning-based Sampling(SADE-MLS)is proposed. In SADE-MLS,differential evolution operators are executed to generate numerous high-dimensional candidate points. To alleviate the curse of dimensionality,a Manifold Learning-based Sampling(MLS)mechanism is developed to explore the high-dimensional design space effectively. In MLS,the intrinsic dimensionality of the candidate points is determined by a maximum likelihood estimator. Then, the candidate points are mapped into a low-dimensional space using the dimensionality reduction technique, which can avoid significant information loss during dimensionality reduction. Thus,Kriging surrogates are constructed in the low-dimensional space to predict the responses of the mapped candidate points. The candidate points with high constrained expected improvement values are selected for global exploration. Moreover, the local search process assisted by radial basis function and differential evolution is performed to exploit the design space efficiently.Several numerical benchmarks are tested to compare SADE-MLS with other algorithms.Finally,SADE-MLS is successfully applied to a solid rocket motor multidisciplinary optimization problem and a re-entry vehicle aerodynamic optimization problem, with the total impulse and lift to drag ratio being increased by 32.7%and 35.5%,respec-tively.The optimization results demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed method in real engineering practices. 展开更多

As a crucial weapon in the sea battle,anti-ship missiles generally employ a sea-skimming penetration strategy to reduce the probability of being detected by the target radar, which greatly increases the risk of touching water caused by sensor errors or random sea conditions. To alleviate the large impact load by high-velocity water touching,a novel anti-ship missile body configuration is proposed in this paper, which is inspired by the idea of hydroplaning.A parametric geometry model is first developed to modify the configuration of the anti-ship missile body.Subsequently,a structured arbitrary Lagrange-Eulerian based Fluid-Structure Interaction(FSI)model is established to analyze the kinematics parameters of the missile body during the hydroplaning process.A missile body configuration optimization problem is then formulated to minimize the impact load considering several constraints,e.g.,horizontal velocity loss, pitch angle after touching water, and inside capacity for payload.Due to the time-consuming FSI simulation,a Kriging-assisted constrained differential evolution method is utilized to optimize the missile body configuration for reducing the impact load.During the optimization process, radial basis function and Kriging are combined with evolutionary operators to lead the search to the vicinity of the optimum rapidly. The result shows that the proposed missile body configuration can reduce the impact load by 18.8%compared with the ordinary configuration.Additionally, the optimized configuration can further yield a 17.4%impact load decrease subject to all the constraints and avoid structural damage by the high-velocity water touching, which demonstrates the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed anti-ship missile body configuration and corresponding optimization framework for reducing the impact load. 展开更多

As the core component of energy conversion for large wind turbines, the output performance of doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) plays a decisive role in the power quality of wind turbines. To realize the fast and accurate design optimization of DFIGs,this paper proposes a novel hybriddriven surrogate-assisted optimization method. It firstly establishes an accurate subdomain model of DFIGs to analytically predict performance indexes.Furthermore, taking the inexpensive analytical dataset produced by the subdomain model as the source domain and the expensive finite element analysis dataset as the target domain,a high-precision surrogate model is trained in a transfer learning way and used for the subsequent multi-objective optimization process.Based on this model, taking the total harmonic distortion of electromotive force, cogging torque, and iron loss as objectives, and the slot and inner/outer diameters as parameters for optimizing the topology, achieve a rapid and accurate electromagnetic design for DFIGs.Finally, experiments are carried out on a 3MW DFIG to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

The constrained multi-objective multi-variable optimization of fans usually needs a great deal of computational fluid dynamics(CFD)calculations and is time-consuming.In this study,a new multi-model ensemble optimization algorithm is proposed to tackle such an expensive optimization problem. The multi-variable and multi-objective optimization are conducted with a new flexible multi-objective infill criterion. In addition, the search direction is determined by the multi-model ensemble assisted evolutionary algorithm and the feature extraction by the principal component analysis is used to reduce the dimension of optimization variables.First, the proposed algorithm and other two optimization algorithms which prevail in fan optimizations were compared by using test functions. With the same number of objective function evaluations, the proposed algorithm shows a fast convergency rate on finding the optimal objective function values. Then, this algorithm was used to optimize the rotor and stator blades of a large axial fan, with the efficiencies as the objectives at three flow rates, the high, the design and the low flow rate.Forty-two variables were included in the optimization process. The results show that compared with the prototype fan,the total pressure efficiencies of the optimized fan at the high, the design and the low flow rate were increased by 3.35%,3.07%and 2.89%,respectively,after CFD simulations for 500 fan candidates with the constraint for the design pressure. The optimization results validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

We introduce a framework for statistical inference of the closure coefficients using machine learning methods. The objective of this framework is to quantify the epistemic uncertainty associated with the closure model by using experimental data via Bayesian statistics. The framework is tailored towards cases for which a limited amount of experimental data is available. It consists of two components.First,by treating all latent variables(non-observed variables)in the model as stochastic variables, all sources of uncertainty of the probabilistic closure model are quantified by a fully Bayesian approach. The probabilistic model is defined to consist of the closure coefficients as parameters and other parameters incorporating noise. Then, the uncertainty associated with the closure coefficients is extracted from the overall uncertainty by considering the noise being zero. The overall uncertainty is rigorously evaluated by using Markov-Chain Monte Carlo sampling assisted by surrogate models. We apply the framework to the Spalart-Allmars one-equation turbulence model. Two test cases are considered, including an industrially relevant full aircraft model at transonic flow conditions, the Airbus XRF1.Eventually,we demonstrate that epistemic uncertainties in the closure coefficients result into uncertainties in flow quantities of interest which are prominent around, and downstream,of the shock occurring over the XRF1 wing. This data-driven approach could help to enhance the predictive capabilities of CFD in terms of reliable turbulence modeling at extremes of the flight envelope if measured data is available, which is important in the context of robust design and towards virtual aircraft certification. The plentiful amount of information about the uncertainties could also assist when it comes to estimating the influence of the measured data on the inferred model coefficients. Finally, the developed framework is flexible and can be applied to different test cases and to various turbulence models. 展开更多

To accelerate the multi-objective optimization for expensive engineering cases, a Knowledge-Extraction-based Variable-Fidelity Surrogate-assisted Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy(KE-VFS-CMA-ES) is presented. In the first part, the KE-VFS model is established. Firstly, the optimization is performed using the low-fidelity surrogate model to obtain the Low-Fidelity Non-Dominated Solutions(LF-NDS). Secondly, aiming to obtain the High-Fidelity(HF) sample points located in promising areas, the K-means clustering algorithm and the space-filling strategy are used to extract knowledge from the LF-NDS to the HF space. Finally, the KE-VFS model is established by means of the obtained HF and LF sample points. In the second part, a novel model management based on the Modified Hypervolume Improvement(MHVI) criterion and pre-screening strategy is proposed. In each generation of KE-VFS-CMA-ES, excessive candidate points are firstly generated and then calculated by the MHVI criterion to find out a few potential points, which will be evaluated by the HF model. Through the above two parts, the promising areas can be detected and the potential points can be screened out, which contributes to speeding up the optimization process twofold. Three classic benchmark functions and a time-consuming engineering case of the aerospace integrally stiffened shell are studied, and results illustrate the excellent efficiency, robustness and applicability of KE-VFS-CMA-ES compared with other four known multi-objective optimization algorithms. 展开更多
