To ensure the SG function properly, the materials should have low blood permeability and good mechanical properties. So far, there have been few systematic studies on the relationship between textile structures and mechanical properties of the bio-textiles used in the SG. In this study, six types of biomedical PET fabrics with different yarn structures and fabric structures were designed and fabricated. All the SG materials could meet the requirement of thickness, except the sample of 30 d × 20 d with 2 /2 twill construction, which was thicker than 0. 12 mm. Bursting strength and water permeability( WP) of the six samples were also tested. Through the comparison of comprehensive performance, the PET fabric 30 d × 20 d /12 f with2 /2 twill construction with both good resistances to permeability and bursting strength, might have good prospect in applications of vascular engineering.展开更多

Six different samples were knitted with identical cotton and lycra yarn but different in lycra contents and stitch length. After conditioning in a controlled environment, all the samples were tested as per the established methods. After analyzing the test results, noticeable effects of variations in stitch length and lycra content on physical and dimensional characteristics of single jersey knitted fabric has been found. As smaller the stitch length and as greater the lycra content, the dimensional stability and bursting strength are better;on the other hand, the air permeability is lower.展开更多

These sudden and violent failures around mine openings have compromised safety, ventilation and access to mine workings.Previous studies showed that the violence of coal specimen failure depends on both the interface friction and width-to-height(W/H) ratio of coal specimen. The mode of failure for a uniaxially loaded coal specimen or a coal pillar is a combination of both shear failure along the interface and compressive failure in the coal. The shear failure along the interface triggered the compressive failure in coal. The compressive failure of a coal specimen or a coal pillar can be controlled by changing its W/H ratio. As the W/H ratio increases, the ultimate strength increases. Hence, with a proper combination of interface friction and the W/H ratio of pillar or coal specimen, the mode of failure will change from sudden violent failure which is brittle failure to non-violent failure which is ductile failure. The main objective of this paper is to determine at what W/H ratio and interface friction the mode of failure changes from violent to non-violent. In this research, coal specimens of W/H ratio ranging from 1 to 10 were uniaxially tested under two interface frictions of 0.1 and 0.25, and the results are presented and discussed.展开更多
