The unpowered high-speed vehicle experiences a significant coupling between the disciplines of aerodynamics and control due to its characteristics of high flight speed and extensive maneuverability within large airspace. The conventional aircraft conceptual design process follows a sequential design approach, and there is an artificial separation between the disciplines of aerodynamics and control, neglecting the coupling effects arising from their interaction. As a result, this design process often requires extensive iterations over long periods when applied to high-speed vehicles, and may not be able to effectively achieve the desired design objectives. To enhance the overall performance and design efficiency of high-speed vehicles, this study integrates the concept of Active Control Technology(ACT)from modern aircraft into the philosophy of aerodynamic/control integrated optimization. Two integrated optimization strategies, with differences in coupling granularity, have been developed.Subsequently, these strategies are put into action on a biconical vehicle that operates at Mach 5.The results reveal that the comprehensive performance of the synthesis optimal model derived from the aerodynamic/control integrated optimization strategy is improved by 31.76%and 28.29%respectively compared to the base model under high-speed conditions, demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of the method and optimization strategies employed. Moreover,in comparison to the single-stage strategy, the multi-stage strategy takes into deeper consideration the impact of control capacity. As a result, the control performance of the synthesis opti-mal model derived from the multi-stage strategy improves by 13.99%,whereas the single-stage strategy only achieves a 5.79%improvement.This method enables a fruitful interaction between aerodynamic configuration design and control system design, leading to enhanced overall performance and design efficiency.Furthermore,it improves the controllability of high-speed vehicles, mitigating the risk of mission failure resulting from an ineffective control system. 展开更多

The challenge of aerodynamic noise is a key obstacle in the advancement of low-pressure tube ultra-high-speed maglev transportation, demanding urgent resolution. This study utilizes a broadband noise source model to perform a quantitative analysis of the aerodynamic noise produced by ultra-high-speed maglev trains operating in low-pressure environments.Initially,an external flow field calculation model for the ultra-high-speed maglev train is presented.Subsequently, numerical simulations based on the broadband noise source model are used to examine the noise characteristics. The impact of the train speed and pressure level on noise generation is investigated accordingly.Subsequently,a correlation formula is derived. The results reveal that the amplitude of sound source changes in the streamlined region of the head and tail cars of the train is large, and the amplitude of changes for the middle car is smaller. The noise source strength increases with speed, with a quadrupole noise source becoming dominant when the train speed exceeds 600 km/h.At a speed of 1000 km/h,the noise source intensity from the streamlined area at the rear of the train overcomes that at the front.Furthermore, the noise source decreases as the pressure level in the tube decreases. When the pressure level drops to 0.01 atm,the quadrupole noise source intensity of a train running at 600 km/h significantly weakens and falls below that of the dipole noise source. 展开更多

The pressure wave generated by an urban-rail vehicle when passing through a tunnel affects the comfort of passengersand may even cause damage to the train and related tunnel structures. Therefore, controlling the trainspeed in the tunnel is extremely important. In this study, this problem is investigated numerically in the frameworkof the standard k-εtwo-equation turbulence model. In particular,an eight-car urban rail train passingthrough a tunnel at different speeds(140,160,180 and 200 km/h)is considered. The results show that the maximumaerodynamic drag of the head and tail cars is most affected by the running speed. The pressure at selectedmeasuring points on the windward side of the head car is very high, and the negative pressure at the side windowof the driver’s cab of the tail car is also very large. From the head car to the tail car,the pressure at the same heightgradually decreases. The positive pressure peak at the head car and the negative pressure peak at the tail car aregreatly affected by the speed. 展开更多

Reducing the aerodynamic drag and noise levels of high-speed pantographs is important for promoting environmentally friendly, energy efficient and rapid advances in train technology.Using computational fluid dynamics theory and the K-FWH acoustic equation,a numerical simulation is conducted to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of high-speed pantographs.A component optimization method is proposed as a possible solution to the problemof aerodynamic drag and noise in high-speed pantographs. The results of the study indicate that the panhead, base and insulator are the main contributors to aerodynamic drag and noise in high-speed pantographs. Therefore,a gradual optimization process is implemented to improve the most significant components that cause aerodynamic drag and noise.By optimizing the cross-sectional shape of the strips and insulators, the drag and noise caused by airflow separation and vortex shedding can be reduced. The aerodynamic drag of insulator with circular cross section and strips with rectangular cross section is the largest.Ellipsifying insulators and optimizing the chamfer angle and height of the windward surface of the strips can improve the aerodynamic performance of the pantograph. In addition, the streamlined fairing attached to the base can eliminate the complex flow and shield the radiated noise. In contrast to the original pantograph design, the improved pantograph shows a 21.1%reduction in aerodynamic drag and a 1.65 dBA reduction in aerodynamic noise. 展开更多

How to simulate interior aerodynamic noise accurately is an important question of a car interior noise reduction. The unsteady aerodynamic pressure on body surfaces is proved to be the key effect factor of car interior aerodynamic noise control in high frequency on high speed. In this paper, a detail statistical energy analysis (SEA) model is built. And the vibra-acoustic power inputs are loaded on the model for the valid result of car interior noise analysis. The model is the solid foundation for further optimization on car interior noise control. After the most sensitive subsystems for the power contribution to car interior noise are pointed by SEA comprehensive analysis, the sound pressure level of car interior aerodynamic noise can be reduced by improving their sound and damping characteristics. The further vehicle testing results show that it is available to improve the interior acoustic performance by using detailed SEA model, which comprised by more than 80 subsystems, with the unsteady aerodynamic pressure calculation on body surfaces and the materials improvement of sound/damping properties. It is able to acquire more than 2 dB reduction on the central frequency in the spectrum over 800 Hz. The proposed optimization method can be looked as a reference of car interior aerodynamic noise control by the detail SEA model integrated unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and sensitivity analysis of acoustic contribution. 展开更多

It is a major challenge for the airframe-inlet design of modern combat aircrafts,as the flow and electromagnetic wave propagation in the inlet of stealth aircraft are very complex. In this study,an aerodynamic/stealth optimization design method for an S-duct inlet is proposed. The upwind scheme is introduced to the aerodynamic adjoint equation to resolve the shock wave and flow separation. The multilevel fast multipole algorithm(MLFMA)is utilized for the stealth adjoint equation.A dorsal S-duct inlet of flying wing layout is optimized to improve the aerodynamic and stealth characteristics. Both the aerodynamic and stealth characteristics of the inlet are effectively improved. Finally, the optimization results are analyzed, and it shows that the main contradiction between aerodynamic characteristics and stealth characteristics is the centerline and crosssectional area. The S-duct is smoothed, and the cross-sectional area is increased to improve the aerodynamic characteristics, while it is completely opposite for the stealth design. The radar cross section(RCS)is reduced by phase cancelation for low frequency conditions. The method is suitable for the aerodynamic/stealth design of the aircraft airframe-inlet system. 展开更多

The aerodynamic braking is a clean and non-adhesion braking, and can be used to provide extra braking force during high-speed emergency braking. The research of aerodynamic braking has attracted more and more attentions in recent years. However, most researchers in this field focus on aerodynamic effects and seldom on issues of position control of the aerodynamic braking board. The purpose of this paper is to explore position control optimization of the braking board in an aerodynamic braking prototype. The mathematical models of the hydraulic drive unit in the aerodynamic braking system are analyzed in detail, and the simulation models are established. Three control functions--constant, linear, and quadratic--are explored. Two kinds of criteria, including the position steady-state error and the acceleration of the piston rod, are used to evaluate system performance. Simulation results show that the position steady state-error is reduced from around 12-2 mm by applying a linear instead of a constant function, while the acceleration is reduced from 25,71-3.70 m/s2 with a quadratic control function. Use of the quadratic control function is shown to improve system performance. Experimental results obtained by measuring the position response of the piston rod on a test-bench also suggest a reduced position error and smooth movement of the piston rod. This implies that the acceleration is smaller when using the quadratic function, thus verifying the effectiveness of control schemes to improve to system performance. This paper proposes an effective and easily implemented control scheme that improves the position response of hydraulic cylinders during position control. 展开更多

This paper shows that the aerodynamic effects can be compensated in a quadrotor system by means of a control allocation approach using neural networks. Thus, the system performance can be improved by replacing the classic allocation matrix, without using the aerodynamic inflow equations directly. The network training is performed offline, which requires low computational power. The target system is a Parrot MAMBO drone whose flight control is composed of PD-PID controllers followed by the proposed neural network control allocation algorithm.Such a quadrotor is particularly susceptible to the aerodynamics effects of interest to this work, because of its small size.We compared the mechanical torques commanded by the flight controller,i.e.,the control input,to those actually generated by the actuators and established at the aircraft. It was observed that the proposed neural network was able to closely match them, while the classic allocation matrix could not achieve that. The allocation error was also determined in both cases.Furthermore, the closed-loop performance also improved with the use of the proposed neural network control allocation,as well as the quality of the thrust and torque signals,in which we perceived a much less noisy behavior. 展开更多

Successfully utilized non-axisymmetric endwalls to enhance turbine efficiencies(aerodynamic and turbine inlet temperatures)by controlling the characteristics of the secondary flow in a blade passage. This is accomplished by steady-state numerical hydrodynamics and deep knowledge of the field of flow.Because of the interaction between mainstream and purge flow contributing supplementary losses in the stage,non-axisymmetric endwalls are highly susceptible to the inception of purge flow exit compared to the flat and any advantage rapidly vanishes. The conclusions reveal that the supreme endwall pattern could yield a lowering of the gross pressure loss at the design stage and is related to the size of the top-loss location being productively lowered. This has led to diminished global thermal exchange lowered in the passage of the vane alone. The reverse flow adjacent to the suction side corner of the endwall is migrated farther from the vane surface,as the deviated pressure spread on the endwall accelerates the flow and progresses the reverse flow core still downstream. The depleted association between the tornado-like vortex and the corner vortex adjacent to the suction side corner of the endwall is the dominant mechanism of control in the contoured end wall.In this publication,we show that the non-axisymmetric endwall contouring by selective numerical shape change method at most prominent locations is advantageous in lowering the thermal load in turbines to augment the net heat flux reduction as well as the aerodynamic performance using multi-objective optimization. 展开更多

A linear microporous blade tip structure is designed in order to reduce the aerodynamic noise of a wind turbine during operations.Various structures of such a kind are considered and the related aerodynamic noise is determined in the framework of large vortex simulation and acoustic array test methods. The findings demonstrate that various blade tip designs can enhance the vortex trajectory in the tip region and lessen the pressure differential between the blade’s upper and lower surfaces. In particular, the wind turbine’s maximum linear velocity at the blade tip can be increased by 10%–23%while also effectively reducing the radial and axial aerodynamic noise during operation.A trailing edge microporous structure displays a better noise reduction effect than a leading edge microporous structure, and the maximum sound pressure level is reduced by an average of 1.92%–3.63%.The main factors influencing the wind turbine’s aerodynamic noise are its size and placement of microporous holes. 展开更多

A pantograph serves as a vital device for the collection of electricity in trains. However, its aerodynamic resistance can limit the train’s running speed. As installing fairings around the pantograph is known to effectively reduce the resistance,in this study, different fairing lengths are considered and the related aerodynamic performances of pantograph are assessed. In particular, this is accomplished through numerical simulations based on the k-ωShear Stress Transport(SST)two-equation turbulence model. The results indicate that the fairing diminishes the direct impact of high-speed airflow on the pantograph, thereby reducing its aerodynamic resistance. However,it also induces interferences in the flow field around the train, leading to variations in the aerodynamic resistance and lift of train components. It is shown that a maximum reduction of 56.52%in pantograph aerodynamic resistance and a peak decrease of 3.38%in total train aerodynamic resistance can be achieved. 展开更多

A relatively high aerodynamic drag is an important factor that hinders the further acceleration of high-speed trains.Using the shear stress transport(SST)k-ωturbulence model, the effect of various vortex generator types on the aerodynamic characteristics of an ICE2(Inter-city Electricity)train has been investigated. The results indi-cate that the vortex generators with wider triangle, trapezoid, and micro-ramp arranged on the surface of the tail car can significantly change the distribution of surface pressure and affect the vorticity intensity in the wake. This alteration effectively reduces the resistance of the tail car.Meanwhile, the micro-ramp vortex generator with its convergent structure at the rear exhibits enhancedflow-guiding capabilities, resulting in a 15.4%reduction in the drag of the tail car. 展开更多

A numerical method has been used to analyze the flow field related to a NACA 0015 airfoil with and without a flap and assess the influence of the flap height and angle on the surface pressure coefficient, lift coefficient, and drag coefficient. The numerical results demonstrate that the flap can effectively improve the lift coefficient of the airfoil;however,at small attack angles, its influence is significantly reduced. When the angle of attack exceeds the critical stall angle and the flap height is 1.5%of the chord length, the influence of the flap becomes very evident. As the flap height increases, the starting point of the separation vortex gradually moves forward and generates a larger wake vortex.Optimal aerodynamic characteristics are obtained for 1.5%(of the chord length)flap height and a 45°flap angle;in this case, the separation vortex is effectively reduced. 展开更多

The large number and dense layout of rail fastening can significantly affect the aerodynamic performance of trains.Utilizing the Improved Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation(IDDES)approach based on the SST(Shear Stress Transport)k-ωturbulent model, this study evaluates the effects of the rail fastening system on the aerodynamic force, slipstream and train wake under crosswind conditions. The results indicate that in such conditions, compared to the model without rails, the rail and the fastening system reduce the drag force coefficient of the train by 1.69%,while the lateral force coefficients increase by 1.16%and 0.87%,respectively.The aerodynamic force can be considered virtually unchanged within the error allowance. However, the rail and the fastening system cause an inward shift of the negative pressure center on the leeward side of the train. The peak slipstream velocity near the ground in the rail and rail fastening system model is significantly lower than that in the situation without rails.Additionally, the rail and the fastening system not only induce two displacements in the vortex structure of the train but also accelerate the dissipation of shedding vortex and the rapid decrease of turbulent kinetic energy. 展开更多

The safety and stability of high-speed maglev trains traveling on viaducts in crosswinds critically depend on their aerodynamic characteristics. Therefore, this paper uses an improved delayed detached eddy simulation(IDDES)method to investigate the aerodynamic features of high-speed maglev trains with different marshaling lengths under crosswinds. The effects of marshaling lengths(varying from 3-car to 8-car groups)on the train’s aerodynamic performance, surface pressure, and the flow field surrounding the train were investigated using the three-dimensional unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes(N-S)equations.The results showed that the marshaling lengths had minimal influence on the aerodynamic performance of the head and middle cars.Conversely, the marshaling lengths are negatively correlated with the time-average side force coefficient(CS)and time-average lift force coefficient(Cl)of the tail car.Compared to the tail car of the 3-car groups, the CS and Cl fell by 27.77%and 18.29%,respectively,for the tail car of the 8-car groups. It is essential to pay more attention to the operational safety of the head car,as it exhibits the highest time average CS.Additionally, the mean pressure difference between the two sides of the tail car body increased with the marshaling lengths, and the side force direction on the tail car was opposite to that of the head and middle cars.Furthermore, the turbulent kinetic energy of the wake structure on the windward side quickly decreased as marshaling lengths increased. 展开更多

Experimental investigation of active flow control on the aerodynamic performance of a flying wing is conducted. Subsonic wind tunnel tests are performed using a model of a 35° swept flying wing with an nanosecond dielectric barrier discharge (NS-DBD) plasma actuator, which is installed symmetrically on the wing leading edge. The lift and drag coefficient, lift-to- drag ratio and pitching moment coefficient are tested by a six-component force balance for a range of angles of attack. The results indicate that a 44.5% increase in the lift coefficient, a 34.2% decrease in the drag coefficient and a 22.4% increase in the maximum lift-to-drag ratio can be achieved as compared with the baseline case. The effects of several actuation parameters are also investigated, and the results show that control efficiency demonstrates a strong dependence on actuation location and frequency. Furthermore, we highlight the use of distributed plasma actuators at the leading edge to enhance the aerodynamic performance, giving insight into the different mechanism of separation control and vortex control, which shows tremendous potential in practical flow control for a broad range of angles of attack. 展开更多

Combining the detached eddy simulation(DES)method and Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings(FW-H)equation,the effect of bogie cavity end wall inclination on the flow field and aerodynamic noise in the bogie region is numerically studied.First, the simulation is conducted based on a simplified cavity-bogie model, including five cases with different inclination angles of the front and rear walls of the cavity.By comparing and analyzing the flow field and acoustic results of the five cases, the influence of the regularity and mechanism of the bogie cavity end wall inclination on the flow field and the aerodynamic noise of the bogie region are revealed. Then, the noise reduction strategy determined by the results of the simplified cavity-bogie model is applied to a three-car marshaling train model to verify its effectiveness when applied to the real train. The results reveal that the forward inclination of the cavity front wall enlarges the influence area of shear vortex structures formed at the leading edge of the cavity and intensifies the interaction between the vortex structures and the front wheelset, frontmotor, and front gearbox, resulting in the increase of the aerodynamic noise generated by the bogie itself. The backward inclination of the cavity rear wall is conducive to guiding the vortex structures flow out of the cavity and weakening the interaction between the shear vortex structures and the cavity rear wall, leading to the reduction of the aerodynamic noise generated by the bogie cavity.Inclining the rear end wall of the foremost bogie cavity of the head car is a feasible aerodynamic noise reduction measure for high-speed trains. 展开更多

The expansion chamber serves as the primary silencing structure within the exhaust pipeline. However,it can also act as a sound-emitting structure when subjected to airflow. This article presents a hybrid method for numerically simulating and analyzing the unsteady flow and aerodynamic noise in an expansion chamber under the influence of airflow.A fluid simulation model is established, utilizing the Large Eddy Simulation(LES)method to calculate the unsteady flow within the expansion chamber. The simulation results effectively capture the development and changes of the unsteady flow and vorticity inside the cavity, exhibiting a high level of consistency with experimental observations. To calculate the aerodynamic noise sources within the cavity, the flow field results are integrated using the method of integral interpolation and inserted into the acoustic grid. The acoustic analogy method is then employed to determine the aerodynamic noise sources. An acoustic simulation model is established, and the flow noise source is imported into the sound field grid to calculate the sound pressure at the far-field response point. The calculated sound pressure levels and resonance frequencies show good agreement with the experimental results. To address the issue of airflow regeneration noise within the cavity, perforated tubes are selected as a means of noise suppression. An experimental platformfor airflow regeneration noise is constructed, and experimental samples are processed to analyze and verify the noise suppression effect of perforated tube expansion cavities under different airflow velocities. The research findings indicate that the perforated tube expansion cavity can effectively suppress low-frequency aerodynamic noise within the cavity by impeding the formation of strong shear layers. Moreover, the semi-perforated tube expansion cavity demonstrates the most effective suppression of aerodynamic noise. 展开更多
