The results showed that the short-term total effective rate in the group of drug acupoint application was higher than that in the group of traditional crude herb moxibustion, the therapeutic effects of drug acupoint application being closely related to differential types. Methods: 56 cases of inpatients with hepatitis B cirrhosis were divided into treatment group (n=27) and control group (n=29) randomly. All the patients of these two groups were given with routine expectant treatment including administration of medicines (Bifendate, Eessentiale, Potenline, etc) for protecting liver functions, reducing the level of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), etc., and in the meantime, patients of the treatment group were also treated with moxibustion of Zusanli (足三里 ST 36), Taichong (太冲 LR 3) and Sanyinjiao (三阴交 SP 6), once daily, continuously for 4 weeks. Results: After 4 weeks of treatment, of the 27 and 29 cases of treatment and control group, 23 and 10 patients had improvement in clinical symptoms, 4 and 19 failed, with the total effective rates being 85.18% and 34.48% respectively. Serum total bilirubin (TBil) contents of treatment and control groups decreased significantly, and the level of TBil in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Moxibustion is an effective remedy in relieving hyperbilirubinemia and improving clinical symptoms in the treatment of hepatitis B cirrhosis patients.展开更多

Primary osteoporosis, a commonly encountered metabolic bone disease in the postmenopausal women and the aged people, can be classified by modern medicine into postmenopausal osteoporosis (Type I) and senile osteoporosis (Type II). The disease seriously affects health and quality of life of the people as it often cause ostealgia, fracture and the secondary symptoms or diseases. Presently, the pharmacotherapy (including both Chinese herbal drugs and western drugs) remains the first among all other therapeutic methods which are mainly adopted in treatment of the disease at home and abroad. Studies related have been curried out quite early and systematically, and considerable progress has been made, but limit of the pharmacotherapy has also been found. Certain non-drug treatments (such as dietetic therapy, physical exercise, acupuncture and moxibustion, and qigong, especially acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, although with a late start, have been proved effective with satisfactory results. The following is a summary of all the contributions concerned.……展开更多

Methods Sixty cases of patients with osteoarthritis of knee were divided randomly into a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group was treated by modified sparrow- pecking moxibustion, and the control group by traditional sparrow-pecking moxibustion. It was given once a day and 10 times were one course, and the efficacy was observed after two courses of treatment. Results the total effective rate in the treatment group was 90.00% (27/30), that in the control group was 76.67% (23/30), the efficacy in the treatment group was better than that in the control group (P〈O.05). Conclusion Modified sparrow-pecking moxibustion has obvious effect on the treatment of osteoarthritis of knee and it is worthy of being studied and promoted.展开更多

Methods: A total of 40 perimenopausal syndrome cases who met the inclusion criteria were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 20 in each group. Acupuncture combining with ginger-partitioned moxibustion was used in the observation group, whereas acupuncture was used in the control group. Modified Kupperman Index (KI) was evaluated respectively before and after treatment. In addition, the clinical efficacies in the two groups were compared. Results: The total effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, KI in both groups were significantly reduced (P<0.01) and there was a statistical difference between the two groups (P<0.01). Conclusion: Acupuncture combining with ginger-partitioned moxibustion could obtain a higher total effective rate for perimenopausal syndrome than acupuncture alone. Furthermore, it was also superior to acupuncture alone in improving hot flushes, insomnia, melancholia and arthralgia or myalgia.展开更多
