The impact of cryorolling(CR)and room temperature rolling(RTR)followed by artificial aging on the corrosion characteristics of 2195 Al−Li alloy(AA2195)was studied.Transmission electron microscope,scanning electron microscope,optical microscope,intergranular corrosion experiment,and electrochemical experiment were used.Throughout different stages of aging treatment,the corrosion behavior of both CR and RTR samples exhibited a sequential progression of pitting corrosion,followed by intergranular corrosion,and then pitting corrosion again.The corrosion rates of both samples initially showed an increase,followed by a gradual stabilization over time.The size and density of T1 phase significantly influenced the corrosion performance of the alloy.During the peak aging and over-aging stages,the CR sample exhibited superior corrosion resistance to the RTR sample,attributed to its finer T1 phase. 展开更多

Inhibitory effect of ferroptosis inhibitor toxicity induced by cobalt nanoparticles through reactive oxygen species

BACKGROUND:Soft tissue damage induced by cobalt nanoparticles is currently the most noticeable complication in patients with artificial joint prostheses.Therefore,an effective therapeutic strategy is needed to limit the toxicity of cobalt nanoparticles.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the protective effect of a ferroptosis inhibitor on cobalt nanoparticles-induced cytotoxicity.METHODS:To evaluate the detoxification effect of ferroptosis inhibitor on mouse fibroblasts(Balb/3T3),Balb/3T3 cells were treated with cobalt nanoparticles and ferroptosis inhibitor for 24 hours.The cell viabilities were measured by cell viability assay.Based on the results of the cell viability assay,the concentrations of cobalt nanoparticles and deferiprone were determined.The experiment was divided into four groups:the cobalt nanoparticles group(400μmol/L cobalt nanoparticles),the cobalt nanoparticles+deferiprone group(400μmol/L cobalt nanoparticles and 25μmol/L deferiprone),the deferiprone group(25μmol/L deferiprone),and the control group.The expressions of glutathione peroxidase 4 and solute carrier family 7 member 11 protein were examined by western blot assay.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The cell viability assay results showed that as the exposure time or the drug concentration increased,cell viability decreased further,indicating that the cytotoxic effect of cobalt nanoparticles was time-and dose-dependent.Additionally,after 24 hours of exposure,cobalt nanoparticles significantly reduced cell viability and glutathione levels compared with the control group(P<0.05).At the same time,compared with the control group,there was an increase in reactive oxygen species production,intracellular iron levels,and the expression of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factorα,interleukin-1β,and interleukin-6.After the addition of deferiprone,compared with the cobalt nanoparticles group,cell viability significantly improved,and reactive oxygen species production,intracellular iron levels,and the expression of inflammatory cytokines(tumor necrosis factorα,interleukin-1β,and interleukin-6)significantly decreased(P<0.05).This demonstrated that deferiprone had a protective effect on cells exposed to cobalt nanoparticles.(2)Western blot assay results showed that cobalt nanoparticles reduced the expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 and solute carrier family 7 member 11 protein(P<0.05),while deferiprone inhibited this effect(P<0.05).(3)The above findings verify that cobalt nanoparticles are highly cytotoxic and ferroptosis inhibitor deferiprone has a detoxification effect on cytotoxicity induced by cobalt nanoparticles.Ferroptosis plays an important role in the process by which cobalt nanoparticles induce cytotoxicity.The inhibitory effect of ferroptosis inhibitors on the toxicity of cobalt nanoparticles may provide valuable insights for further research into the mechanisms of cobalt nanoparticle toxicity and potential detoxification strategies. 展开更多

Microarc oxidation is an effective surface treatment for improving certain properties of metals and their alloys.In this paper,TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coatings were prepared on Ti-6Al-4V by microarc oxidation.Thecoatings exhibited good corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties.X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electronmicroscopy(SEM),and 3D laser confocal were used to characterize the coatings.The properties of TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coatings were analyzed,including microstructure,surface roughness,corrosion resistance,andantimicrobial properties.The electrochemical results showed that the coatings prepared by microarc oxidation hadenhanced corrosion resistance compared to the substrate.The antibacterial properties of TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coating against Pseudomonas aeruginosa were evaluated by fluorescence microscopy and plate counting.The antibacterial rate of TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coating was up to 99.70%.In summary,the TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coatings prepared by microarc oxidation have a potential application background in the field of marine corrosionprotection and biofouling. 展开更多

The low-cost Fe-Cu,Fe-Ni,and Cu-based high-entropy alloys exhibit a widespread utilization prospect.However,these potential applications have been limited by their low strength.In this study,a novel Fe_(31)Cu_(31)Ni_(28)Al_(4)Ti_(3)Co_(3) immiscible high-entropy alloy(HEA)was developed.After vacuum arc melting and copper mold suction casting,this HEA exhibits a unique phase separation microstructure,which consists of striped Cu-rich regions and Fe-rich region.Further magnification of the striped Cu-rich region reveals that it is composed of a Cu-rich dot-like phase and a Fe-rich region.The aging alloy is further strengthened by a L1_(2)-Ni_(3)(AlTi)nanoprecipitates,achieving excellent yield strength(1185 MPa)and uniform ductility(~8.8%).The differential distribution of the L1_(2) nanoprecipitate in the striped Cu-rich region and the external Fe-rich region increased the strength difference between these two regions,which increased the strain gradient and thus improved hetero-deformation induced(HDI)hardening.This work provides a new route to improve the HDI hardening of Fe-Cu alloys. 展开更多

The coupling effects of electrical pulse,temperature,strain rate,and strain on the flow behavior and plasticity of 5182-O aluminum alloy were investigated and characterized.The isothermal tensile test and electrically-assisted isothermal tensile test were performed at the same temperature,and three typical models were further embedded in ABAQUS/Explicit for numerical simulation to illustrate the electroplastic effect.The results show that electric pulse reduces the deformation resistance but enhances the elongation greatly.The calibration accuracy of the proposed modified Lim−Huh model for highly nonlinear and coupled dynamic hardening behavior is not much improved compared to the modified Kocks−Mecking model.Moreover,the artificial neural network model is very suitable to describe the macromechenical response of materials under the coupling effect of different variables. 展开更多

Aluminium alloy is one of the earliest and most widely used superplastic materials.The objective of this work is to review the scientific advances in superplastic Al alloys.Particularly,the emphasis is placed on the microstructural evolution and deformation mechanisms of Al alloys during superplastic deformation.The evolution of grain structure,texture,secondary phase,and cavities during superplastic flow in typical superplastic Al alloys is discussed in detail.The quantitative evaluation of different deformation mechanisms based on the focus ion beam(FIB)-assisted surface study provides new insights into the superplasticity of Al alloys.The main features,such as grain boundary sliding,intragranular dislocation slip,and diffusion creep can be observed intuitively and analyzed quantitatively.This study provides some reference for the research of superplastic deformation mechanism and the development of superplastic Al alloys. 展开更多

Effects of ultrasonic vibration(UV)and mechanical vibration(MV)on the Mn-rich phase modification and mechanical properties of Al−12Si−4Cu−1Ni−1Mg−2Mn piston alloys were investigated.The results show that the UV and UV+MV treatments can significantly refine and fragmentize the microstructures.In addition,UV treatment can significantly passivate the primary Mn-rich Al15Mn3Si2 intermetallics.The formation mechanisms of refinement and passivation of the grains and non-dendrite particles were discussed.Compared with the gravity die-cast alloys,the UV and UV+MV treated alloys exhibit improved tensile and creep resistance at room and elevated temperatures.These results can be attributed to the refinement of theα(Al)grains and the secondary intermetallics,the increased proportion of refined heat-resistant precipitates,and the formation of nano-sized Si particles.The ultimate tensile strength of the UV treated alloys at 350℃ exceeds that of commercial piston alloys.This indicates the high application potential of the developed piston alloys in density diesel engines. 展开更多

In the present study,microstructural evolution,mechanical and creep properties of Al/SiC/Cu composite stripsfabricated via accumulative roll bonding(ARB)process were studied.The obtained results showed the formation of anatomic diffusion layer with thickness of about 17μm at the interface during the ARB under three creep loadingconditions namely 30 MPa at 225℃,35 MPa at 225℃,and 35 MPa at 275℃.An generated intermetallic compoundresulted in a 40%increase of interface thickness near Al.The stress level decreased by 13%at constant temperature withno signi fi cant effect on the interface thickness,and the creep failure time declined by 44%.It was observed that atconstant temperatures,the second slope of the creep curve reached to 39%with increasing stress level,then,it dropped to2%with a little temperature rising.After creep test under 35 MPa at 275℃,the sample displays the presence of 60%Aland 40%Cu,containing brittle Al_(2)Cu intermetallic compound at the interface.Applied temperature and stress had effecton the creep properties,specially increasing the slope of creep curves with higher stresses. 展开更多

Smoothed cepstral peak prominence(CPPs)is a measurement of the distance from the prominent cepstral peak to the linear regression line directly beneath it.Variations of CPPs data acquisition and analysis lead to the complexity of the clinical cut-off values,and there are no agreeable values for a specific voice disorder,such as hypokinetic dysarthria associated with Parkinson’s disease(PD).This study examined the CPPs in people with hypokinetic dysarthria associated with PD compared with healthy participants.Results demonstrated significant differences in speech tasks of sustained vowel and connected speech,with CPPs of connected speech more sensitive to dysphonia and gender difference in PD participants.Males in PD participants presented higher CPPs for sustained vowels and lower CPPs for connected speech than females.It is implied that a consistent clinical application protocol is necessary,and multiple acoustic measures are needed to ensure the accuracy of clinical decisions. 展开更多

The effects of laser shock peening(LSP)on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the Ti6242 alloy,including the residual stress,surface roughness,Vickers microhardness,tensile mechanical response,and high-cycle fatigue properties,were studied.The results showed that the LSP induced residual compressive stresses on the surface and near surface of the material.The maximum surface residual compressive stress was−661 MPa,and the compressive-stress-affected depth was greater than 1000μm.The roughness and Vickers micro-hardness increased with the number of shocks,and the maximum hardness-affected depth was about 700μm after three LSP treatments.LSP enhanced the fraction of low-angle grain boundaries,changed the grain preferred orientations,and notably increased the pole density ofαphase on the near surface from 2.41 to 3.46.The surface hardness values of the LSP samples increased with the increase of the number of shocks due to work hardening,while the LSP had a limited effect on the tensile properties.The high-cycle fatigue life of the LSP-treated sample was significantly enhanced by more than 20%compared with that of the untreated sample,which was caused by the suppression of the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks. 展开更多

Polar surfaces are prevalent in metal oxides,the interactions between surface species with polar surfaces are different from those with non-polar surfaces,a thorough understanding of the interactions is key to regulate the performance of heterogeneous catalysts.In this work,we delve into the interaction of Pt_(n)(n=1-4)with polar ZnO(0001)-Zn and ZnO(0001)-O,and the influence of the surface polarity on the electronic structures and reactivity of Pt_(n) by using density functional theory calculations.The results suggest distinct differences in electronic structures of two exposed terminations,leading to different interactions with Pt_(n).The interaction between Pt_(n) and two terminations not only stabilizes the surface and clusters through polar compensation,but also induces opposite charges on the cluster at two terminations.Remarkably,the Pearson correlation coefficient reveals the interdependency between the electronic states of Pt_(n) and its performance in terms of small molecule adsorption/activation.These observations demonstrate the crucial role of surface polarity in regulating the electronic states and catalytic performance of active sites,and offer a possible design principle for supported catalysts. 展开更多

To form complex box-shape parts with large wall-thickness difference,a directly thixoforged technology of 2A14 alloy with low-cost and short-process was proposed and verified.The results showed that complex components were successfully thixoforged.Solid grains in the microstructure of the thixoforged parts exhibited a large deformation degree.This led to an obvious improvement in the mechanical properties of the thixoforged parts.No obvious liquid segregation was found in the microstructure.High mechanical properties were obtained in the thixoforged 2A14 alloy components.The yield strength varied from 157.1 to 187.3 MPa,the ultimate tensile strength varied from 268.2 to 316.6 MPa,and the elongation varied from 7.8%to 24.9%.Increase in plastic deformation degree caused by larger size and less round grains is beneficial to the mechanical properties of the thixoforged components. 展开更多

Due to a series of exceptional properties,titanium and titanium alloys have received extensive attention in recent years.Different from other alloy systems,there are two allotropes and a sequence of metastable phases in titanium alloys.By summarizing the recent investigations,the phase transformation processes corresponding to the common phases and also some less reported phases are reviewed.For the phase transformation only involvingαandβphases,it can be divided intoβ→αtransformation and a reverse transformation.The former one has been demonstrated from the orientation relationship betweenαandβphases and the regulation ofαmorphology.For the latter transformation,the role of the stress has been discussed.In terms of the metastable phases,the mechanisms of phase formation and their effects on microstructure and mechanical properties have been discussed.Finally,some suggestions about the development of titanium alloys have been proposed. 展开更多

Based on experimental data,machine learning(ML) models for Young's modulus,hardness,and hot-working ability of Ti-based alloys were constructed.In the models,the interdiffusion and mechanical property data were high-throughput re-evaluated from composition variations and nanoindentation data of diffusion couples.Then,the Ti-(22±0.5)at.%Nb-(30±0.5)at.%Zr-(4±0.5)at.%Cr(TNZC) alloy with a single body-centered cubic(BCC) phase was screened in an interactive loop.The experimental results exhibited a relatively low Young's modulus of(58±4) GPa,high nanohardness of(3.4±0.2) GPa,high microhardness of HV(520±5),high compressive yield strength of(1220±18) MPa,large plastic strain greater than 30%,and superior dry-and wet-wear resistance.This work demonstrates that ML combined with high-throughput analytic approaches can offer a powerful tool to accelerate the design of multicomponent Ti alloys with desired properties.Moreover,it is indicated that TNZC alloy is an attractive candidate for biomedical applications. 展开更多

To enhance the mechanical properties of molybdenum alloys at both room and high temperatures,Mo-14Re-1CeO_(2)alloy was synthesized using the powder metallurgy method,and the corresponding microstructure and mechanical properties were characterized.The results indicate that the ultimate tensile strength of Mo-14Re-1CeO_(2)reaches 657 MPa,with a total elongation of 35.2%,significantly higher than those of pure molybdenum(453 MPa,and 7.01%).Furthermore,the compression strength of Mo-14Re-1CeO_(2)at high temperature(1200℃)achieves 355 MPa,which is still larger than that of pure molybdenum(221 MPa).It is revealed that there is a coherent interface between CeO_(2)and the Mo-14Re matrix with CeO_(2)particles uniformly distributed in both intergranular and intragranular regions.The improvements in mechanical properties are primarily attributed to the formation of Mo-Re solid solution,grain refinement,and dispersion strengthening effect of CeO_(2). 展开更多

Biomass-derived platform molecules,such as furfural,are abundant and renewable feedstock for valuable chemical production.It is critical to synthesize highly efficient photocatalysts for selective oxidation under visible light.The Er@K-C_(3)N_(4)/UiO-66-NH_(2) catalyst was synthesized using a straight-forward hydrothermal technique,and exhibited exceptional efficiency in the photocatalytic oxidation of furfural to furoic acid.The catalyst was thoroughly characterized,confirming the effective adjustment of the band gap energy of Er@K-C_(3)N_(4)/UiO-66-NH_(2).Upon the optimized reaction conditions,the conversion rate of furfural reached 89.3%,with a corresponding yield of furoic acid at 79.8%.The primary reactive oxygen species was identified as·O_(2)^(-) from ESR spectra and scavenger tests.The incorporation of Er and K into the catalyst enhanced the photogenerated carriers transfer rate,hence increasing the separating efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.This study expands the potential applications of rare earth element doped g-C_(3)N_(4) in the photocatalytic selective oxidation of furfurans. 展开更多

The segregation of Sn and discontinuous precipitation at grain boundaries are detrimental to the strength,ductility,and machinability of the Cu−Ni−Sn alloy.A strategy to solve the above problems is multi-component composition design by introducing strong enthalpic interaction element.In this work,a series of Cu_(80)Ni_(15)Sn_(5−x)Ti_(x)(at.%)alloys were designed by cluster-plus-glue-atom model,and the effects of Ti content on the microstructure and properties of the alloys were systematically investigated using TEM and other analysis methods.The results demonstrate that Ti can effectively inhibit the segregation and discontinuous precipitation while promoting continuous precipitation to improve the high-temperature stability of the alloys.As the Ti content increases,the distribution of Ti changes from uniform distribution to predominant precipitation.The hardness and conductivity of the alloy exceed those of the C72900(Cu−15Ni−8Sn(wt.%))commercial alloy and the Cu_(80)Ni_(15)Sn_(5)(at.%)reference alloy when Ti is in the solution state. 展开更多

Ti alloys,as leading lightweight and high-strength metallic materials,exhibit significant application potential in aerospace,marine engineering,biomedical,and other industries.However,the lack of fundamental understanding of the microstructure−property relationship results in prolonged research and development(R&D)cycles,hindering the optimization of the performance of Ti alloys.Recently,the advent of high-throughput experimental(HTE)technology has shown promise in facilitating the efficient and demand-driven development of next-generation Ti alloys.This work reviews the latest advancements in HTE technology for Ti alloys.The high-throughput preparation(HTP)techniques commonly used in the fabrication of Ti alloys are addressed,including diffusion multiple,additive manufacturing(AM),vapor deposition and others.The current applications of high-throughput characterization(HTC)techniques in Ti alloys are shown.Finally,the research achievements in HTE technology for Ti alloys are summarized and the challenges faced in their industrial application are discussed. 展开更多
