The monitoring results indicated that scarabs in sweet potato planting area of Xuzhou mainly included Anomala corpulenta, Holotrichia parallela Motschulsky, Maladera verticalis and Holotrichia trichophora Fairm. Holotrichia tri- chophora Fairm has entered into its late stage at the early cultivation stage of sweet potato with a few occurrence quantities. The elongation stage of sweet potato vine is the full incidence period of imagoes of Maladera verticalis and Anomala cor- pulenta. Full incidence period of Holotrichia parallela Motschulsky is from late June to middle August, the outbreak cycle of which is long. The unearthed imagoes fol- low the regular change "many-few-many-few". Effects of meteorological factor on the activities of various scarabs are different. The activities of various scarabs are fre- quent in warm and windless sunny days. In rainy days, Holotrichia parallela Motschulsky, Holotrichia trichophora Fairm and Maladera verticalis are inactive. The numbers of Anomala corpulenta in cloudy days but not rainy days are higher than that in sunny days.展开更多

The characterization results showed that doping of Au promoted the reduction of both Pt and W at low temperatures and uniform dispersion of Pt on the WO_3 support. Furthermore, more low-valence Pt species were produced on the WO_3 surface after introduction of Au. These changes in electronic properties resulted in enhancement of both glycerol conversion and selectivity for 1,3-propanediol.展开更多

The Cu/Pd mean ratio of Jinchuan intrusion is lower than that of original mantle magma, which indicates that these ultrabasic rocks were crystallized from magma that lost Pd in the form of melting segregation of sulfides. The PGE of the rocks show trend of partial melting, similar to that of mantle peridotite, which shows that magma formation occurs during rock-forming and ore-forming processes. The chondrite normalized PGE patterns of the rocks and ores are well related to each other, which signifies the signatures of multi-episode magmatic intrusion, melting and differentiation in the formation processes of rocks and ores. In addition, analyses about the relation between PGE and S, and study on Re-Os isotopes indicate that few contamination of the crustal substances occurred during the magmatic intrusion and the formation of deposit. However, contamination by crustal substances helps to supply part of the S for the enrichment of PGE. Meanwhile, the hydrothermal process is also advantageous for the enrichment of PGE, especially lbr Pt and Pd, due to deep melting segregation. The characteristic parameters (such as Pt/(Pt+Pd), (Pt+Pd)/(Ru+Ir+Os), Pd/Ir, Cu/(Ni+Cu), and so on.) for platinum-group elements for Jinchuan sulfide copper-nickel deposit show the same features as those for sulfide copper-nickel deposit related to basic magma, which also illustrates its original magma property representative of Mg-high tholeiite. Therefore, it is the marie (not ultramafic) magma that resulted in the formation of the superlarge sulfide copper-nickel deposit enriched in Cu and PGE. To sum up, the geochemical characteristics of platinum-group elements in rocks and ores from Jinchuan copper-nickel sulfide deposit are constrained by the continental rift tectonic environment, the parent magma features, the enriched mantel magma source, the complex metallogenesis and PGE geochemical signatures, and this would be rather significant for the study about the genetic mechanism of copper-nickel sulfide deposits.展开更多

Immunostaining was determined semiquantitatively. Statistical analysis with one-way ANOVA, LSD test and correlation analysis were performed. P value of < 0.05 was considered significant.RESULTS: GST expression was significantly higher while MMP-9 expression was significantly lower in control group compared to Barrett’s metaplasia and the other groups. No major changes were observed between Bar-rett, esophagitis, and Barrett and concomitant esophagi-tis. Barrett and concomitant dysplasia, and adenocarci-noma revealed a significant lower expression of GST and higher levels of MMP-9 compared to all other groups. Adenocarcinoma showed almost no expression of GST and significantly higher levels of MMP-9 than Barrett and concomitant dysplasia. Alterations of GST and MMP-9 were inversely correlated (r = - 0.82).CONCLUSION: Decreased GST and increased ex-pression of MMP-9 in Barrett’s metaplasia-dysplasia-adenocarcinoma sequence as compared to normal tissue suggest their association with esophageal tumorigenesis. Loss of GST and gain of MMP-9 in Barrett with dyspla-sia compared to non-dysplastic metaplasia indicate that these alterations may be early events in carcinogenesis. Quantification of these parameters in Barrett’s esopha-gus might be useful to identify patients at higher risk for progression to cancer.展开更多

The study compared metal content in plant tissues of each species at the end of the first growing season and assessed the effects of EDTA as a chelating agent to increase availability of metals for the plants. Brassicajuncea accumulated more metals (Cu, Pb and Zn) in aerial parts than in roots, whereas the willows accumulated Cu and Pb mainly in roots and Zn in aerial parts (mostly in leaves). EDTA increased metal transfer in Brassica but had no effect on the two willow species. After one growing season, the total biomass yield of Brassica juncea was higher than that of the willows, and consequently, total metal accumulation by the plants was also greater. However, the high yield of willows over several years may make them more successful in brownfield phytoremediation.展开更多

In our study, these two algae were exposed to BaP for 4 days at three different concentrations including 0.5 μg L-1 (low), 3 μg L-1 (mid) and 18 μg L-1 (high). The activity of detoxi- fication enzymes, ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) increased in P subcordiformis in all BaP-treated groups. In 1. zhanjiangensis, the activity of these two enzymes increased at the beginning of exposure, and then de- creased in the groups treated with mid- and high BaP. The activity of antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) increased in/. zhanjiangensis in all BaP-treated groups, and then decreased in high BaP-treated group, while no significant change was observed in P subcordiformis. The activity of antioxidant enzyme catalase (CAT) increased in I. zhanjiangensis and P subcordiformis in all BaP- treated groups. The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in Isochrysis zhanjiangensis increased first, and then decreased in high BaP-treated group, while no change occurred in P. subcordiformis. These results demonstrated that BaP significantly influenced the activity of detoxifying and antioxidant enzymes in microalgae. The metabolic related enzymes (EROD, GST and CAT) may serve as sensitive biomarkers of measuring the contamination level of BaP in marine water.展开更多

Here, we screened sugar cane varieties to identify those with a low ability to accumulate heavy metals and with high tolerance. These trials were conducted in arsenic (As), lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) contaminated farmland in Huanjiang County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. We tested seven varieties and found that cultivar Guiyin9 had the highest cane stem yield (187.5t ha-1 ) and sugar content (27t ha-1 ). The concentrations of As, Pb and Cd in the cane juice of Guiyin9 were all below the maximum limit for contaminants in food. Because Guiyin9 showed low accumulation of the heavy metals tested here and produced a high cane stem yield, this cultivar could be planted as a valuable crop in large areas of southern China contaminated with low to moderate levels of heavy metals.展开更多

Southern blot analysis indicated that ZD12-6 is a single copy integration event. The insert site was determined to be at chromosome 1 by border sequence analysis. Expression analyses of Bt fusion protein CrylAb/Cry2Aj and the EPSPS protein G10 suggested that they are both expressed stably in different generations. Insect bioassays demonstrated that the transgenic plants are highly resistant to Asian corn borer (Ostnnia furnacalis), cotton boll worm (Helicoverpa armigera), and armyworm (Mythimna separata). This study suggested that ZD12-6 has the potential to be developed into a commercial transgenic line.展开更多
