The principles of designing horn surface size and antenna length are established according to the law of energy conservation and microwave antenna radiation theory. Modeling and simulation are carried out using IE3D software. The simulation results demonstrate that, with a fixed horn surface size, the shortened electric antenna length is the main factor leading to the improved heating uniformity. On the other hand, with a fixed antenna length and diminished surface size, the standing wave ratio decreases with the improved radiation efficiency. Furthermore, the efficiency of radiation drops with increased distance between the horn surface and the asphalt pavement. Microwave heating experiments are carried out using this type of heater. The temperature distribution of asphalt samples is obtained by the grid temperature measurement method, and Matlab simulation is performed. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation.展开更多

This study focused on the behavior of a new kind of admixture at fresh and solid states. Currently, the concrete material has become a very expensive material because the high price mostly of aggregates, representing the three quarters of the concrete components. By consequence, it costs money and on the other hand, it produces a lot of wastes. The main aspect which guides this study is to make a kind of concrete based mainly on local material and sustainable concrete material (SCM or waste material), which is one very abundant material in quality and quantity, under the current tendency the results obtained in this study summarize up the importance of the temperature during the development of the mechanical characteristics of mortar, mainly on compressive strength at age of 28 days. This is in the case of the addition of limestone crushed additive by percentage of substitution.展开更多

The effective cool-pavement technologies are sought to mitigate the pavement environment. In this paper, developed heat-reflective pavements are constructed from open-graded asphalt concrete, in which voids in the upper part of the pavement are filled with a cement mortar, containing recycled materials as a fine aggregate. The recycled materials used in this study are: crushed oyster shells, roof tile debris, pottery debris, glass cullet, crushed escallops and coral sand. The temperature reduction of the pavement surfaces at an open site is measured in the summer. The results show that the maximum surface temperature of the pavements falls by approximately 8-10 ℃ compared to the asphalt concrete pavement. Furthermore, it is found that the temperature reduction is mainly due to the increased solar radiation reflectance of the pavement surface.展开更多

However, the lack of microscopic study of WMA brings difficulties in understanding of its mechanical behavior and mechanisms at macroscopic scale which finally hinders the enhancement of WMA's performance. Therefore, this article aims to use atomic force microscopy(AFM), a promising microscopic technique, to investigate the effects of wax-based warm mix agents on asphalt microstructures and micromechanical properties at different temperatures. For simplicity's sake, microcrystalline waxes are selected as an alternative of these wax-based additives. It is shown that the sample preparation method has a vital impact on the morphology of asphalt samples. The effects of microcrystalline wax on asphalt's mechanical properties can be well captured by AFM tests. Results show that the blending of #70, #80 and #90 microcrystalline waxes lowers the modulus(20—60 MPa) of Pen70 asphalt at 25 ℃ while increasing its adhesion force(5—20 n N). The results of this study may shed some light on the comprehension of the effects of wax-based additives on asphalt materials at macroscopic level which can help estimate and predict its actual performance.展开更多

The industrial generation of ozone is the classical application of the non-equilibrium air plasmas at the atmospheric pressure. A low temperature is needed because the ozone quickly decays at the high temperature. This study is based on a temporal kinetic model for the production of ozone. The chemical kinetics take into account 96 reactions with 19 species atomic and molecular created in the discharge. In this work, the model allows to calculate the temporal evolution of neutral, ionized and excited species concentrations in plasma. The results show the influence of the kinetic on the ozone production yield and on the gas heating by Joule effect.展开更多
